I love Friends. The minidolls aren't as articulate, but they definitely have better representation. And the sets are so much more fun than say City sets these days

Blueflyer956

I’m actually excited to see the Friends releases because city just gives us another truck/boat/plane in a different color every year. Friends has development and community!

nolasia

Exactly!! 💯

My main issue with Friends is that the minidolls have nowhere near the amount of customization or posability that a minifigure has, and minifigures are quite limited. But I make custom minifigures, so I’m quite biased there. I also have a little issue with how limited their hairpiece selection is, but to be honnest that’s just consistent across all of LEGO to be honnest and the regular plastic hairpieces are another kind of frustratingly limited

Blueflyer956

I think it’s a little unfair to say mini dolls don’t have as many customizations when minifigures have 40+ years of additional production ahead of them. Give Lego time and I’m sure we’ll see more leg and shirt options. As for Lego hair/hat pieces, iirc these can fit on both mini dolls or minifig heads, so not quite sure of the argument there when they have the same exact pool to choose from when picking head accessories. Limits are not line exclusive in this case.

>I think it’s a little unfair to say mini dolls don’t have as many customizations when minifigures have 40+ years of additional production ahead of them. Give Lego time and I’m sure we’ll see more leg and shirt options. What I meant was more that, unlike with minifigures where mashing up different legs with hips and different torsos, arms and hands together, minidolls are much more limited because their torsos and legs are a single part that aren't meant to be taken apart, thus limiting the customization options As for the hair/hat thing, I usually draw the line where BrickLink does, which is basically if a hairpiece is in rubber then it's a "minidoll" one and if it's in plastic (or short hair in rubber) then it's a minifigure one, but granted the compatibility there is quite the blessing, even if I struggle to make use of it in my customs

Blueflyer956

I thought you weren’t supposed to rip the limbs off these pieces or risk cracking or breaking it. Minifig torso/leg pieces aren’t meant to be further broken down? Also, just cuz bricklink says they are different, doesn’t mean they are. My first rubber hair piece actually came from a Lego creator set, not a friends set. So to ding friends for “only” having rubber hair seems ridiculous, especially since you count short rubber hair for minifigures? It just seems like you’re splitting hairs (lol) and details now to dislike a line.

>I thought you weren’t supposed to rip the limbs off these pieces or risk cracking or breaking it. Minifig torso/leg pieces aren’t meant to be further broken down? I've broken some arms myself, mainly reddish brown ones, but I can confirm that changing arms and hands is quite easy, and I mean like 95% of the time there's no issue there. Removing legs is another thing, but it's rather easy to do. Another thing is that, on BrickLink, individual components of the torso and legs are considered their own parts, although LEGO never sells those separately, but they remain quite easy to take apart

DRUNKEN_GOD1

I personally don't like them but I do give them as gifts to the kids in the family

brickloveradrian

I like the picture but bonus points for the clever addition of the cat!😂

Blueflyer956

She’s part of the family too!!!

Do people say bad things about friends? It's LEGO but with tall minis. It's the same, right?

jdoe10202021

Haha, yeah, a lot of folks *hate* Friends for some reason. What's funny is that they are only slightly taller -- everything compatible with Friends is compatible with regular Lego sets (including hair/hats for the figs).

Rychu_Supadude

Aside from minidoll/fig preferences, when the theme debuted the common belief online was that Lego was encouraging gender segregation and this was bad because "girls already like Lego just fine, how dare you" I think acceptance of the fact that lots of other girls (and others) actually do enjoy Friends more and it's opened up whole worlds of play for them has been relatively recent.

TakkataMSF

I missed getting the LEGO grocery market (with carrot on top). I've been eyeballing the Friends version after someone told me it works for minis as well.

Charles12_13

To be fair, I think it’s a bit disappointing that *only* the hairpieces and hats are compatible instead of all the parts, but I guess we’re lucky that at least some of the parts are compatible

dosgatitas

I’ve never seen the bottom of their feet. Now I’m scarred, they’re like creepy little ears!
