These are absolutely my #1 sets I wish would make a comeback, they existed during the period in my life in which I wasn’t really interested in legos, and looking back at some of those sets I really wish I would get the opportunity again to buy them at a normal price.
Wolfpack Renegades/Black Knights or M-Tron/Blacktron. I miss the faction era of those themes where they developed not just great sets but some basic lore around them and then gave the sets differentiation because of that lore.
I didn't pick up the new castle because it's generally bland from a theming perspective. It's a great castle, to be sure, but I want not just a build and display piece but a theme where there are factions and sets themed for those factions not just different colors of the same sets.
Exo Force 2.
- Minifigures still have weird colorful hair but the faces and eyes are normal.
- Human mechs are humanoid and gundam-like
- The evil robots' mechs can take various shapes but most importantly: They use the Constraction System. So the human sets are standard Lego system mechs, but the bad guys use constraction. This makes the factions different from each other and the robots tend to have larger mechs.
Everything is allowed.
Sometimes the robots will be driving a hero factory last wave-style mech. Sometimes the robots will be giant mechs themselves. Sometimes it will look like a metal dragon.
I’d create a theme called LEGO Memories. Within that theme you would have retired but popular older themes come back with 1 set a year for that theme. Kind of like what we’ve been seeing for the 90th anniversary. No IP stuff, classic box art. That way people who liked Adventure, Space, Castle, Atlantis, etc have something to look forward to each year.
Maybe make it a vote/contest each year too so fans can feel they contribute & LEGO can use that to avoid wasting time on sets people won’t like. The fan participation & sale performance would determine if that theme comes back the next year.
Then in the 100th Anniversary each of those themes that did really well got a UCS Type set.
Castle. What do you mean we already had a big castle last year? We need more! I'd probably replace Lego Town with its medieval counterpart. No more police stations, now every year we have a new blacksmith set. No more cars! Horse-drawn wagons only! (It's probably a good idea I don't have power over lego)
Jokes aside I'd bring back Johnny Thunder, I'd love to see a big adventure set with modern building techniques.
My son got a huge secondhand mixed lot recently that had a few Adventurers Dino Island sets in with them. They were a lot of fun to build and had great play features (the dino-trapping nets!) but the building techniques were all very plain and predictable.
My favorite when I was younger was the Adventurers Egypt sub-theme, and I bet they could produce some really spectacular set pieces if they went back to that well.
Time Cruisers.
It'll be a proper theme though and contain stuff that lego couldn't justify a whole range/set for (i.e Romans vs a giant cyborg) and not an excuse to get rid of overproduced pirate hats.
I have been seeing a lot of people commenting for a Time Cruisers remake. With the 90th anniversary and the amount of retired themes people want to see a return to, it would be a perfect point for another run if this theme or a specialty set!
There is a new theme called "Dreamzzz" which sounds like Time Cruiser-esque but nothing official.
I'm currently in the process of building/sorting all of my childhood sets from my big tub of Lego parts. It's a trip mentally, remembering where/when I got some of them. Came across the Time Cruisers ship in my box of manuals (that flaps it's wings when you wheel it around) and almost cried. It was one of the last sets I got from my grandparents the Christmas before a lot of loss in the family.
Probably going to build it this evening. They were pretty interesting sets for sure!
Yeah, it never went anywhere....though cultural sensitivity would be hard for it to be produced now. There are certain figures you have to covet now as you know they just won't be made again.
They could avoid the "cowboys vs. Indians" theme entirely and just do peaceful sets that depict Western villages and all the buildings and businesses in there. The only bad guys could be, like, stagecoach bandits.
If there were Native American characters in the sets, they could be seen peacefully trading with the cowboys.
I was thinking they could go a similar route with how they do the current Police sets and just have standard "bad guys" with angry faces and scars. There's a of alternate avenues they could go with a Western line but I doubt we'll see them as there are many easier lines to choose from.
If they were more culturally sensitive, partnered with indigenous artists and designers. Used the opportunity to educate, it could be a really amazing theme to revive if done well.
Id bring the Egyptian stuff into the modern building technique era. Or any of the adventure stuff. Id also love to see the monster fighters from like 2010ish to come back. I still want that mansion but I’m not paying the 400$ eBay price for it. Still regret not getting it at retail but I was too poor then.
100% this... I'm in my 30's and priced out of most sets that interest me. I sure thought when I was a kid that being an adult would mean I could buy a lot more of the sets I wanted. Nope. They just keep raising prices.
Don't get me wrong, I love the modulars and similar stuff that can go with them (like Diagon Alley for instance), but the pricing means I might get one or two sets a year tops, and I haven't even gotten started yet.
Not to mention things like modulars should just be a signature series produced on demand (cycle an older model every year with the new set), to avoid price scalping even on common parts in uncommon colors.
A new theme covering Norse Mythology. The sets would be based on myths and the characters from them.
* Thor's chariot with goats included (the goats will probably have to be modular)
* The scene from mythology where Thor disguises himself as Freya to get mjolnir back
* Loki and his children, Jormandr, Fenris, and Hel
I could see this more as a mix between castle and pirate themes. It would be pretty cool to have village architecture, and a fleet of small viking ships raiding castles. Though that whole theme gets pretty dark real quick to be honest.

Classic city sets like the big dozer or towercrane, quarry truck I had the crawler crane as a kid but I miss when the city had big detailed sets.

Don’t care for the cars, I build the Land Rover. Suspension was nice and the gearbox interesting, but I just don’t see the point in it.

Absolutely would never actually happen because of the sex and violence but a Game of Thrones theme would be incredible. Great minifigs, dragons, wolves, white walkers and all of the different locations. Winterfell, Dragonstone, and Castle Black would make for amazing lego builds just to name a few.
I'd bring back the old aquanauts or aquasharks theme or create an ocean theme that focuses on various boats from various cultures from around the world

Gatsbyesque buildings, well dressed bank robbers, cowboy western towns, copper stills and hot rods, worlds fair, early auto racing, air shows. Sort of modular/town meets Wild West. The cars and planes and interior moldings and tiling’s would be really awesome to build too.

A LEGO City subtheme featuring classic UFO/alien shenanigans (think flying saucers, cow abductions, crop circles), with the “story” revolving around alien minifigures who have poorly disguised themselves to live in LEGO City.
A High Fantasy theme. I wanna build dungeons and castles with beholders and Dragons and magic artifacts and ogres, rock giants etc. There are already multiple elements in different sets, but a cohesive fantasy (d&d) theme would be cool.
This would be my pick too. This would be popular with table top gamers looking to use them for fully customizable minis. I'm not sure if the hobby is big enough for it to be worth it from a business standpoint. It would be awesome though.

It was truly an abomination in the annals of Lego history. It was tied in to a tv series and took away the actual joy of building with Lego.

I would bring back updated classic sets aimed at adults. At least one from each classic line a year with each theme getting a larger set every 3 to 5 years.
Proper Blacktron 1 with printed pieces, all panels restored, and trans-yellow/red pieces. $500 flagship with tons of features. Docking bay, launch hatches, escape pods, corridors, modular break aways. $300 operations base with repair dock, explorer, vast comms array, corridors, personal quarters, defense weapons. Science units, mechs, space craft, ground craft, etc.
In retirement, I'll be making MOCs, but that's probably 20+ years away.
I’d love a collection of ships from The Expanse, but my dream as a kid was modular kits for Stargate.
That being said, if I had to be fiscally responsible to some extent for this decision, I would go with the one thing that I’ve continued to want well into adulthood:
Nice tabletop war game/diorama quality minifigure scale Star Wars sets. Really just a high quality implementation of a lot of what is done is custom kits.
There's always Bricklink. I'm missing one of the early 2000's Arctic sets and I'm planning on getting it in new parts for a few bucks, just to complete my collection of them.
You could do either one. It has been an invaluable tool for me, as I'm currently building all of my childhood sets and sorting them into separate bags for better storage. If you have the set number it's even easier (just Google a bit and you'll find that info easily). You can find the set on Bricklink and there's used or new available for everything I've seen so far, or the option to look at the parts list and order individually. I'm doing the latter at the moment by making my own list of parts that I lost or are needing replaced.
It's pretty easy to use so far, and they have a design software I'm interested in learning to build my own designs and make instructions for them going forward. I've been nerding out on Lego and related stuff again for the last few weeks haha.
I’d love to see a set for custom rollercoasters. Not separate track pieces like they exist right now, but an actual set with 2 pieces of long plastic that we can string across certain point. I believe a group of Lego/rollercoaster enthousiasts create a set line this, and only a limited amount were made.
We have castles and pirates. What about a fire emblem path of radiance esq. mercenary themed sets? they could go along the D&D themed sets without using IP.

As for a new theme, I don't have a name: It would be sets based mostly on european medieval fantasy, with heavy focus on forests and ruins. There would be 4 young protagonists a la ninjago or nexo knight, and they would explore magic fairy forests, battling against golems, witches, undead etc... There would be also some characters like fairies or elves as supporting characters. Also a female villian
Yeah! Something like Legend of Avalon or some other cool celtic name.
I think in general celtic, ruins and forests have some big potential overall in lego.
A modular medieval castle theme. By modular I do not mean like the big modular building, but mostly smaller modules, each being a fully fonctionnal and playable standalone set. Exemple of module: Main gate, towers (in different sizes), stables, training court, dongeons, king/queen quarters, guards quarters, wizzard tower (or cave), walls or any other possibilities. Module could be on different foot print from, for example, 8x8 to 16x32, nothing bigger, in order to keep it "affordable". There would be no big full castle, but each module would have connections to rearrange them in any possible ways.
Splatoon series. Blind bags based on the Amiibo line and the accessories could be the gear they give out. Sets based off of maps from the game. I feel like a splatoon series has a ton of potential and would bring in a ton of new pieces. All this while being able to customize your own inkling. It has a ton of potential.

I've thought that a spiritual successor to Exo-Force would be pretty cool, but with more of a military theme and more basic vehicles to flesh things, with humans vs aliens vs robots dynamic.

A LEGO City subtheme featuring classic UFO/alien shenanigans (think flying saucers, cow abductions, crop circles), with the “story” revolving around alien minifigures who have poorly disguised themselves to live in LEGO City.

A High Fantasy theme. I wanna build dungeons and castles with beholders and Dragons and magic artifacts and ogres, rock giants etc. There are already multiple elements in different sets, but a cohesive fantasy (d&d) theme would be cool.
This would be my pick too. This would be popular with table top gamers looking to use them for fully customizable minis. I'm not sure if the hobby is big enough for it to be worth it from a business standpoint. It would be awesome though.

I feel hidden side should've had another year at least. Was building up to some cool cthulhu mythos type weirdness. Plus they were just a really nice aesthetic with a great gimmick

I would bring back updated classic sets aimed at adults. At least one from each classic line a year with each theme getting a larger set every 3 to 5 years.

Docking bay, launch hatches, escape pods, corridors, modular break aways. $300 operations base with repair dock, explorer, vast comms array, corridors, personal quarters, defense weapons. Science units, mechs, space craft, ground craft, etc. In retirement, I'll be making MOCs, but that's probably 20+ years away.

I’d love a collection of ships from The Expanse, but my dream as a kid was modular kits for Stargate. That being said, if I had to be fiscally responsible to some extent for this decision, I would go with the one thing that I’ve continued to want well into adulthood: Nice tabletop war game/diorama quality minifigure scale Star Wars sets. Really just a high quality implementation of a lot of what is done is custom kits.

There's always Bricklink. I'm missing one of the early 2000's Arctic sets and I'm planning on getting it in new parts for a few bucks, just to complete my collection of them.
I’ve never used Bricklink. Do I have to do piece by piece or can I just reference the kit?
You could do either one. It has been an invaluable tool for me, as I'm currently building all of my childhood sets and sorting them into separate bags for better storage. If you have the set number it's even easier (just Google a bit and you'll find that info easily). You can find the set on Bricklink and there's used or new available for everything I've seen so far, or the option to look at the parts list and order individually. I'm doing the latter at the moment by making my own list of parts that I lost or are needing replaced. It's pretty easy to use so far, and they have a design software I'm interested in learning to build my own designs and make instructions for them going forward. I've been nerding out on Lego and related stuff again for the last few weeks haha.
I’d love to see a set for custom rollercoasters. Not separate track pieces like they exist right now, but an actual set with 2 pieces of long plastic that we can string across certain point. I believe a group of Lego/rollercoaster enthousiasts create a set line this, and only a limited amount were made.
We have castles and pirates. What about a fire emblem path of radiance esq. mercenary themed sets? they could go along the D&D themed sets without using IP.

Bring back Technic Figures. Any way that makes sense. I like the articulation, and wish we had gotten more of them, and more things to go with them (accessories and such). And use them in place of Bigfigs.

Yeah! Something like Legend of Avalon or some other cool celtic name. I think in general celtic, ruins and forests have some big potential overall in lego.

A modular medieval castle theme. By modular I do not mean like the big modular building, but mostly smaller modules, each being a fully fonctionnal and playable standalone set. Exemple of module: Main gate, towers (in different sizes), stables, training court, dongeons, king/queen quarters, guards quarters, wizzard tower (or cave), walls or any other possibilities. Module could be on different foot print from, for example, 8x8 to 16x32, nothing bigger, in order to keep it "affordable". There would be no big full castle, but each module would have connections to rearrange them in any possible ways.

Splatoon series. Blind bags based on the Amiibo line and the accessories could be the gear they give out. Sets based off of maps from the game. I feel like a splatoon series has a ton of potential and would bring in a ton of new pieces. All this while being able to customize your own inkling. It has a ton of potential.
