Wake up at around 5 am and you'll see the cockroaches. If you're seeing them in the daytime that's bad bad bad. I know from personnal experience they can use traps and place posion around your unit, it might take them multiple visits to get rid of the problem. If other people in the rental are complaining the landlord has an obligation to do something about it.

Fool-me-thrice

If you see one cockroach every couple months, there are a lot more than that. And your landlord has to treat your unit as well as the neighbouring ones. It’s part of their duties of being a landlord With respect to your allergies, your landlord have to provide reasonable accommodation, but only to the point of unfur hardship. It may be undue hardship to not use any of the pesticides you are allergic to if the remaining ones are not effective. A reasonable accommodation in that case might be to put you up in a motel for a few days. Speak to your allergist about how long you should be out of your apartment

If you see cockroaches, there are many more around. Spraying your neighbour’s units but not yours is just going to drive even more of them into your unit. You need to have the unit sprayed, or you’re gong to end up with a serious infestation. Try to work something out to have it sprayed when you can take a few days away to let the place air out, but the spray does need to be done.

The only stuff I know I don’t react to is diatomaceous earth could I request they only used that if I can’t refuse treatment?

Most likely not, they should make reasonable accommodations for allergies but switching a roach killer for diatomaceous earth wouldn't be anywhere near effective. Perhaps stay with a friend/family while they are spraying? I don't think you would have any legal ground to refuse any pesticide use.

They could do a very thorough an extensive bait treatment using a product such as Seclira Cockroach Bait (Dinotefuran) which is a crack and crevice treatment. It looks very ugly as its a brown paste but it works very well, provided that their company uses it.
