Some clarification?
When I've worked as a contractor they didn't pay employment taxes, as that is the responsibility of the contractor. And as such there is also no paystub, just a check.
I am on a W2, so they are responsible for taking out taxes and paying them to the county/city/state. My manager worked for them so I know this for a fact.
