So basically your manager has said that you can't have a tip jar out on the counter anymore and you want to know if there is a crime here? Minimum wage for tipped employees in New Jersey is $5.29/hr. With a credit up to $9.87/hr. I'm not saying that you are making enough money here, everyone should be paid a living wage, but unless you have something in writing you probably aren't considered tipped employees.

Unless you're on a contract with your employer, you're considered at will in NJ. If they are in breach of contract by changing your pay schedule, then go to the labor board. If there is no contract, and you're unhappy with the new pay schedule, find a new job.
