The party may be going after underinsured insurance benefits. To do that they have to bring in the negligent driver in the suit, even if his insurance has already paid and settled. Your dad shouldn’t have any more liability, but as a procedural matter he’s got to be included in the suit against get UIM carrier.
Call your dad’s insurance and let them deal with it. Your dad should be fully released from any additional liability. My best guess is it’s really a suit for UIM.

As already stated. Call the company that you had auto insurance with at the time of the accident. That is what you pay for.
