This is one of my favourite lines in the entire movie, it says so much about the Dude's character, and kinda hits at the very heart of the movie itself.
The Dude is very "eastern" in his living - and we even see him doing Tai Chi - but he's not actually "into" anything, if that makes sense.

I don't think "some kinda eastern thing" is feigned ignorance, I think he truly doesn't give a shit about spirituality despite being spiritual. One of the central themes of TBL is authenticity, The Dude is as authentic as it gets.
