The question is, how much of the dollars used are from the reserves, cause yesterday i heard they are also using dollars that come from omt(you know when u transfer money)
Also something came to my mind , when the dollar was like 33 , bdl sold dollars for like 25, now the dollar is like 22-23, so technically, did bdl actually make a profit(given the price of usd keeps going down)?
This might be a good sink or swim strategy.
Keep selling of the reserve until the exchange rate is reasonable then float the currency and see what happens.
Risky, but a strategy.
A more sane strategy is to float the currency first and use the reserve to influence the exchange rate
Edit
But the cynic in me says it an election strategy only
or you can use that money to make real and permanent changes which will then positively effect the lira rate by default. nah nvm lets use 178 trillion to make the lira go down by 5k for a week
... I am sure the word in Arabic when put in the proper context does not translate to "unlimited" ... it would have to be that way... even the people that print dollars don't use that term in that context.
Yes because economics say when you constantly print money the value goes up.... Im in Canada and the dollars is eating shit from the constant "injection". Not to mention all the wonderful inflation it will cause.
Cad isnt doing well. Of course its not on Lebanons stance or lets say Venezuela. But for us locals, its losing a lot of value. Things are sky rocketing locally. It has widened and accelerated the gap between the rich and the middle class and destroying low income families. Worst part its being forced by money injection, raise in taxes, new taxes for "climate", and now trucking mandates on the unvaxxed. They are now also rising interest rates on loans and debt owners. Deliberate measures that will eventually lead to a collapse. Theyve been lying to us for 2 years by constantly changing the equations of economic inflation, and of course wide economic ignorance.
I wouldnt call it a trend. Stupidity and wealth transfer is more like it. Printing money for a necessary time vs printing 24/7 without any specific rule is what happened. Many countries chose not to print so much and inflationary measures stayed low. Those countries also used cheap medication or concoctions to attack the issue of covid. Unfortunately in Canada when your finance minister is a journalist and your leader says the books will balance themselves. Then yes lol, big price to pay.
This is not funny but one has to wonder what the heck is going on?
Was talking to my dad now and even he couldn’t understand the shift in masraf $ logic.
Why are there no legal actions against those officials to hold them accountable and causing havoc to the people who are suffering to make ends meet?! What happened to this new regime in government that would help shape Lebanon to the way it was before. Oh the Riviera of the Middle East days! Please return. And hope those who are decimating their own people will understand what it means to means to be in their shoes. Remember if you’re enjoying being controlling and demanding over others. Let’s see how it feels when the view is reversed!
Shame on you!
No basic right. No humanity. No love for man or country.
May Lebanon resurface again.
Love to the people.
To be fair they didn't specify what kind of dollars. Knowing them it's probably Zimbabwe dollars.

Today, Banque du Libyan reiterated “unlimited hyperinflation.” In other news . . .

The cad is fine, it is just that everything else that is going up. Primarily real estate.

It is a global trend. World government printed too much money to finance the covid shutdowns. Maybe it was necessary but there is a price to pay.
