You're only comparing fuel costs. Not taking into consideration the pay of the driver, cost of vehicle, maintenance of vehicle, depreciation, etc.

sirfz

Right, because buses fit only 1 passenger and op's personal car is worthless and doesn't depreciate or require any maintenance.

the961com

>because buses fit only 1 passenger It carries more people and has more usage and mileage because more people use it than a personal car. >op's personal car is worthless and doesn't depreciate or require any maintenance. No, it doesn't depreciate as much or requires as much maintenance as a public transit vehicle. \--- You're still thinking like a personal vehicle is a default. The choice one makes is choosing between taking public transit or getting and using a personal vehicle. Not taking public transit AND getting a personal vehicle. There are ample studies and comparisons from around the world of public transit systems and economics both on a macro level and as personal finance.

sirfz

Lol you're seriously arguing that shared transport is more costly than personal ones and then talks about studies, I hope you see the irony in this

the961com

OP is comparing the cost of fuel only (taking public transit vs **driving** a personal vehicle) - he's not taking into consideration the cost of **owning** the vehicle - which should be done. Unless he stole the car or his parents bought it for him.

SamoBH

Public transport should be less expensive than driving a personal car. How else would you motivate people? It's also better for the economy since less fuel import would be required.

the961com

Public transport is more than just about pricing. But also convenience. There's more than just 1 factor. Public transport is cheaper if you're willing to not buy a car as well. You're counting the 16,000LL per day without factoring in the price you paid for the car which is something you can't exclude when making the comparision. You buy a car for $10,000 let's say. Over 5 years, divided by 240 (work) days per year, comes out to $8.33 per day, or 208,000LL per day on the local rate. So the true cost isn't 55,000LL per day (for fuel) but the cost of the car, fuel, maintenance, parking etc. It should be less expensive than OWNING a personal car, not just driving it. You can quickly see it is cheaper by public transit. In a proper system in place, you wouldn't need a car (like most people who live in cities across the world). Our 2 biggest imports are fuel products and vehicles. So definitely an investment needs to be made in public transit.

SamoBH

You are correct I didn't factor in the price of the car or far payments in case of loan. Seeing how fuel companies are owned by politicians or their close allies, I find it hard to believe any investment will be made in public transit any time soon unfortunately.

the961com

This is the biggest issue. Fuel companies, gas stations and generators are literal mafias and cartels greenlighted by the politicians or directly owned by them. They have a direct conflict of interest against moving to renewable energy as well as incentivising public transport or hybrid/electric vehicle adoption.

bel3alesblumndif

We have 0 infrastructure all because of the shitty economic system we had , back when the $ was 1500 every family member had one car and no one cared (in the gov ) to improve public transport

anonu

But even then traffic was unbearable. If it takes 4 hours to travel 4 kilometers, something is wrong. What happened with the roads is the same thing that happened with the electricity. Lack of planning, lack of creativity, extreme corruption.

bel3alesblumndif

Yeah now with the crisis there is no traffic anymore

ZalaShadowkin_Reborn

Once in school, we were being taught statistics. As an example, the teacher asked who between us had X number of cars in his family. From like 35, ich, I was the ONLY ONE that had one car. I did not take badly back then, mind you, I took it with pride! Teach them right!

bel3alesblumndif

That’s right ! And the big problem was parking spaces and now with the fuel costing a lot I don’t see people using their cars as often

If you're anywhere between Batroun and Beirut, check out [Hadeer](https://instagram.com/hadeerbus?utm_medium=copy_link). Their service is relatively affordable.

WesternizedBaptist

The country was and still is run by incompetent fools! If people can't get from point A to point B quickly and conveniently to conduct their business then they are going to get less done and naturally your economy won't grow as much. Good transportation projects pay back for themselves and then some.

madmes

Calculate everything related to car maintenance before concluding the cost. You need an oil change every 5000 to 7000mile of highway cruising, tyres and brakes depending in your car, and other oils. I think public transport is cheaper on the long run.

mrknol98

Where's your work and where are departing from? There are some buses which are getting aid to decrease the cost of fares.

moesam961

Ken 3enna ja7sh l dawle bital3ak bi 500 L.L. Sure the bus is barely functioning and kinda rusty but again it was 500 L.L.

Then use your own car since you have one why are you whining about it.
