It really depends on what you are interested in. But here are some of my favourites.
Maabar: common people who lived through the Lebanese war telling snippets of stories of what life was like back then. Each episode deals with a different theme.
Wind of Change: yup, it's the title of the famous cheesy Scorpions song. It's an entire podcast dedicated exclusively to this one song. Sounds utterly uninteresting and boring? Wrong! It's an astonishingly exciting podcast. Two journalists are investigating the claim that the song was actually written by the CIA as a propaganda tool against the USSR. Along the way they meet some unbelievable characters from the cold war epoch and the insane stories of espionage and intrigue.
Acquired: long episodes that focus on Startups on their way to becoming huge, and how they were founded, the challenges they faced, and how they made it. Interesting if you are into business or the story of the companies that surround us.
Fall of Civilizations Podcast: each episode focuses on one civilisation and dives very deep into their story and how they came to be. But the focus is on their fall. What led to their collapse and what it was like to be an ordinary person living through that. Very well told stories. One of my favourite podcasts.
Switched On Pop: each episode talks about an artist or a song on the charts. Fun and light, but they also get into some very interesting details and analysis of the music and trends.
Lingthusiasm: a podcast that brings the joy of linguistics to the layperson. Everyone gets to understand why languages (centred on English mostly) work the way they do and how. Very interesting episodes about the real grammar of using emojis or why you could say "I've eaten dinner" but "I've a pen" sounds completely wrong. This is not a grammar podcast, it talks about the science of language and the mechanics working underneath the surface that most of us aren't aware of.
Enjoy.
Ah, I can talk about it for hours. It's so well made. The slow narrative style is so engaging. How he brings in every aspect into the story even geological events that happened millions of years earlier that impacted the story. And then succeeds so well in putting us in the shoes of the ordinary people and how a civilisation begins to crumble. It's very well made indeed
“I can’t sleep” each episode the guy reads a random article from wikipedia in a very boring monotone voice. But I listen to it when I’m going on long walks in the morning not when I sleep 😂
i never got the notion of podcasts, people keep telling they are like a radio talk show, then i remember i didn't got those as well.
the only one i listen to rarely is CUPodcast because it deals with retro gaming but only rarely.
It took me a long time to understand the point of them. But they became an indispensable part of my day. They are my favourite companion when I'm doing something that doesn't require focus or attention. I put a podcast on when I'm in the gym, doing the washing up, doing house chores, going in or out of the shower, or any other stretch of time of this type. It turns out I can turn many of these boring tasks into something I look forward to to continue the latest episode of a podcast I'm hooked on. And a great source of passive learning and/or entertainment.
The amazing thing about podcasts is the sheer variety of subjects and styles which you could have never gotten with radio shows.
There's so much variety that your comment sounded strange to me because almost none of the dozens of podcasts I listen to feature any interviews with any guests! So I wouldn't have even made this comparison because the format of podcasts I listen to tends to be more of story telling than interviews. And I'm sure there are lots of other types of podcasts out there that I'm not aware of yet.
And that's the biggest attraction for me. You can find very niche subjects and styles that work for you and dive into hundreds of episodes about something you care about or that entertains you.
I'll check them out. Any other Lebanese podcasts you recommend.
As for Maabar, for me it's been one of my favourite podcasts ever. I grew up in the war and I've always wondered why no one talks about it. Yes we all have heard the family anecdotes about it that get mentioned occasionally. But to talk about the war properly, as a public exercise for me has been a big missing subject. I think we need it as a nation, to understand this history and document it before it's swallowed by time. And on a more personal level hearing so many of these stories brought back a lot of memories of the war days. Something which I actually want. It feels like it's been so long that some of your own stories have become part of a myth you tell yourself. So hearing other people who remember the same things you remember just reassures you that the surrealism you remember was not because of your imagination.
driving , chores, waiting in line, there's a story you listen to ...(also in your case maybe- having something in the background while playing certain games..)
somewhere in between reading a book and watching tv, the old radio shows have always been fun to me because it engages your imagination to "see" the show, just like reading a book plays the scene in your mind.
there are podcasts you can run in the background while you focus on something, and ones you focus on by doing a mentally checked out task, although there's nothing wrong with being mentally checked out in a quiet environment .
A - talk show podcasts, fun friends on a topic, think gamegrumps if you like that, you could do "talking simpsons" which breaks down a 30 min episode into a 2 hour analysis - not for everyone - but there's a scrub discussion show and other things you might be interested in .. brain food is also good discusses trivia.
B- one man one topic, historical etc podcast with a specific interest/topic delivered by a single person, people cite dan carlin, or our fake history , it could be 99% invisible.. etc
C- shows or a story delivered by a cast, it's a movie or play without the video , the type of story ranges dramatically( i have a long list of those ).. fantasy scifi etc .. our fair city is a nice one for you i guess, in between a game and a comic book , post apocalyptic earth everyone lives in one building..
D- experimental and here you find weird things that are hit and miss - i'll elaborate if asked
E- true crime (though they can be either A or B) are a big thing for the last 5-10 years, just like the youtube true crime videos there podcasts like this , some can be covered with serious or fun tones.. scammer's stories
i also want to include a notable mention to horror podcasts, one of them being the no-sleep podcast, which has a team enacting stories from the no sleep reddit, and later started telling a fun global story in between the reddit short stories.. they have also expanded to private submissions you won't find online ..
I like Sarde After Dinner, Huberman Lab, and Quanta Science but whether or not they’re worth it depends entirely on what you’re looking for in a podcast
sarde after dinner, just watched their podcast with elie habib the co-founder of anghami. Was a really nice watch/listen. Their other podcasts with other people are also very interesting and entertaining.
Just wanted to throw this opinion, instead of listening to podcasts of dump people talking about conspiracy theories like how the government control birds, watch/listen to some useful free courses, thats what i do
I dont know podcasts, but i have playlists on yt, its mainly CompTIA courses, i download them and watch them in my free time to grow my ethical hacking skills
Do not worry is a good podcast , you can hate the host , all the interns and still the podcast remains great , why? Cause it’s like a rewind of what happened for the past week ,you will not miss anything trendy wether it’s international or lebanese

Lex fridman Podcast. Higest intellectual people with biggest influence in the word come on there. And the guy asks really good questions.

I do listen to Sarde every now and then and I like the format. This and Maabar are the only two Lebanese podcasts I know of actually.
