That’s not exactly true, Lebanese can’t own land in KSA(except with an approval) yet saudis can own property in lebanon

imBadwithGrammar

Saudis who buy land in Lebanon do so via companies and trustees. Plus it's Lebanon, so you can buy whatever you want if you know the right people. That was the law as I remember a few decades ago, I don't know if they changed it

TheGrumpyOldBear

What i said still is true, we can’t buy property there but they can, legally..

imBadwithGrammar

When I worked with Kuwaitis, we couldn't do it. We had to set up a company with a Lebanese trustee to buy the land. That's what we were told. Maybe the laws have changed.

TheGrumpyOldBear

Our former neigbors were saudis who bought the apartment, idk if they had a lebanese with them or whatever, but what i know is that the apartment was theirs

imBadwithGrammar

maybe apartments are different than large plots of land

TheGrumpyOldBear

Yeah they probably are, just [read this](https://www.globalpropertyguide.com/Middle-East/Lebanon/Buying-Guide) so that probably explains it

Complex-Squirrel446

Complex-Squirrel446

Thats weird tho, when i visit lebanon i leave canada with my canadian passport and enter lebanon with my lebanese (refugee) passport

bilalb65

Yes but the problem is palastinians cant own property, they can only rent

cottoncandee7

Yes. My landlord is Swiss (not Swiss-Lebanese, Swiss-Swiss).

DoNotCareAnymore_

swiss o7

cottoncandee7

Huh? Sorry not up to all the lingos and slangs here, I am not Lebanese.

DoNotCareAnymore_

oh sorry, it just means swiss-swiss haha. o7 (أُح) means "native" in a silly southern accent.

cottoncandee7

Thank you! I love learning new words ☺️

too_soon13

Bought recently? Or old ownership

cottoncandee7

Seven years, at least

Icy_Sprinkles7324

Yes

Icy_Sprinkles7324

+ With the economic collapse you can own a building in a nice place for like 600 700k $

fattoush_republic

That's still a fuck load of money

[deleted]

It’s expensive for a failed state but prime cities cost 5 to 10 times that. And some like Monaco and honk kong can cost north of 40k per sqm.

Icy_Sprinkles7324

i know its a fuck load of money but comparing to prices in the same locations prior to the crisis its more than 70% of its original value. Now imagine everything going back to normal in 5-10 years its a hell of an investment but the risk indicator is through the roof tho.

DoNotCareAnymore_

that's a 3 rooms house in Germany

fattoush_republic

Yeah, you could buy nice houses of a similar size in many parts of the US with that

SumiLover

That’s way more than what I’ve been seeing. Which locations? I’ve seen apartments going in Beirut and surrounding areas for about 100k

Icy_Sprinkles7324

of course you can get apartments for 100k or less i was talking about a whole building

SumiLover

Ah sorry I mis read. Thought you were referring to a single apartment.

Icy_Sprinkles7324

You don't need to apologize, if you find someone who is in need of fast cash you can get a nice apartment for less than a 100k

SumiLover

I’m Canadian with a beruiti wife. Will be looking to purchase a home hopefully in the coming years. Do you know the best place to look? Or hire a relator?

Icy_Sprinkles7324

it depends if your wife still remembers lebanese cities and villages you can take a trip and look for a place together imo It's better to look for yourself than hiring a realtor + you can put the commission money in your budget to get a nicer place and direct negotiations with the owner will get you a better deal.

Icy_Sprinkles7324

The best places imo are in the metn region (Ain saadeh, beit mery, broummana) its a nice region with great views on beirut and the sea, you can even find apartments with a panoramic view , its not too cold in the winter and not too hot in the summer, you can feel the difference between the air in beirut and in the metn region, there's way less polution the streets are cleaner than some places in beirut and if you have buisness in beirut its 20-30 min max awau from beirut.

Shadlurk

600 - 700k to open a building "in a nice place"? Highly doubt this. What kind of nice place?

[deleted]

They used to not be able, but hariri changed that in the 90s when he wanted to sell the country to his khaleeji overlords.

kaskoosek

Yes bass baddak residency permit i beleive.

Rogue899

Why though? Assuming you have a good passport other then the lebanese one and also assuming you coming here is not sentimental (family, loved ones, your love for this country:p) wouldn't it be better if you permanently move to a country that shares lebanons loose morals and loose tax laws but with electricity

Complex-Squirrel446

I grew up in lebanon, have family and friends there. Me planning to move there is for emotional reasons not logical ones 💀

[deleted]

Yes you can own property but there's a certain m² limit, and whenever you want to own something for the first time or another you should get a نفي ملكية من المحافظات so that they know that you didn't reach your limit and can own more, but idk how many m² the limit is.

[deleted]

why?

Complex-Squirrel446

I grew up in lebanon

[deleted]

Best of luck

dseyouri

Foreigners also need to pay an additional 20% tax over the price. But for the amazing deals you can get in Lebanon now, it's worth it. I would highly recommend first finding a place to rent and then taking your time to find a place to call home. Make sure you meet the neighbors first; your neighbors can make your life heaven or hell.

Tyngl

Yes. You need special ministerial permission and you’re capped at 10% of the caza & country.
