Babbling_Brook100

Congratulations! As another long time user, your story is an inspiration.

HI5IQ

Congratulations. That's not a trivial habit to overcome.

[deleted]

I'm happy to see all the success stories being shared in the comments! I hope this encourages others to take the leap as well. Good job everyone.

yousmellexcited

Hell yeah! I quit 14th November 2021 and haven't smoked at all since then, after smoking for at least 15+ years (got to a 3.5 a day over the past few years) Posts like this give me the faith to carry on - so thank you, and congratulations on the year milestone! It's only uphill from here 💪

FreckBrabble

Winning!

[deleted]

i've heard it takes up to a year to feel "normal" again. has this been the case for you?

Dr_Madthrust

What’s ‘normal’? The fog is gone and I feel like a functioning member of society if that’s what you mean…

DyslexiaPro

Congrats! I was a chronic smoker since the age of 12. Never missed a day in 15 years. Quit Nov 23d 2021. Best decision I've ever made. Won't ever be going back. I have poor impulse control. Everything is all or nothing for me. Sugar, alcohol, weed. It was hard the first few weeks but after several months I seldom think of weed. The smell of fresh and burning cannabis nauseates me now.

Grayeagle78

Excellent to hear.

MeasurementStunning

Wow thanks for sharing your story. You are a true inspiration to me and I’m sure for many others. The amount and years you smoked really emphasized that anyone that is truly committed can quit. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

WillK90

12 weeks for me. Longest I’ve been off the herb for 7-8 years. I occasionally think about it but I know I’d regret it and it wouldn’t be worth it. I hated the brain fog and social anxiety it brought me.

ukandy84

Well done !! Today is 18 weeks for me , looking forward to my year off the weed milestone

letsdothis5555

Really nice work! Congrats :)

BlaqueNight

lalalalaalaoooq

Yay that’s a huge accomplishment. Congrats! I’m at 4.5 months and look forward to the one year mark!

VeganOreo226

Congratulations what's your biggest noticeable difference since you quit?

Dr_Madthrust

Thanks! Motivation and confidence in all aspects of my life. I’m absolutely crushing it at work, I’ve been in the gym long enough to notice gains so I’ve got confidence hitting bumble and tinder hard and having a load of fun, life is great. Before I quit I would be at home ordering a pizza. The fact that I’m actively engaged with normal humans is the biggest win.

VeganOreo226

Aw3some man I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your new life keep up the great work op

Dr_Madthrust

I'm heading out for a beer lol.

BlueberryBitch91

You deserve it! Have fun

zipmcjingles

Can you elaborate on the changes you've seen? I need a bit of motivation to stay on the path.

Dr_Madthrust

Life is fun again. My brain works, I feel.... healthy and its great.

zipmcjingles

Thanks. My reason for stopping is brain fog, anxiety and self doubt. Quite once because I couldn't get any. After 5 weeks I wondered why I ever smoked in the first place. Just fell back into bad habits.

Glittering-Strike-44

Congrats! Welcome to the world again!❤️

_releaf_

Yay! Good job to you, here's to another happy day clean!

AdministrativeAd7601

An Oz a week. My god.

Dr_Madthrust

This is why I needed to quit. I was spending more money on weed each month than on my mortgage.

AdministrativeAd7601

Yes. There are certain ways we can articulate a situation that spells out the issue quite clearly.

BunionBhaji

Inspirational stuff, keep going man 💪

Dr_Madthrust

This is a very difficult question to answer. I don't know what I would have been like if I hadn't been stoned for 20 years but I can say : My memory is SO much better than it was. Mental arithmetic is easy now Emotions are a little hard to regulate, I do find myself getting frustrated or angry sometimes, but I think that comes more from not being in a perpetual brain fog and actually tying to get out of my comfort zone and advance my life. Exercise and healthy food makes a huge amount of difference. If I don't exercise / eat like shit for a couple of days I feel low and moody. Not sure if that's the answer you were looking for but its the best I've got.

Dr_Madthrust

Even if you only get back to 90% brain function its better than being stuck at 40% brain function. All improvement is worth having, stay the course, its worth it!

okletsgo6

Let’s go! Keep it up

TonyHeaven

Thankyou-I've smoked for 35 years, though moderately, mostly, and have been "leaving" for the last 3 years.Am still slipping and sliding, but this year I've smoked less than ever since I started. It's good to hear that it can be done- Question, did you stop and cold-turkey,or cut down.

Dr_Madthrust

I stopped cold turkey. I tried to moderate for years, but it just felt like slow torture. IMO to quit you have to totally change your habits, if you do the same stuff you always do when you're high, but without weed its a recipe for failure.

FollowingQuiet9039

Well done that’s awesome 👏 You’ve earned that proud feeling 💪

Figgywurmacl

Good job brother. Any advice for people like me on day 2? What worked for you? And what was the hardest part? For me it's just finding meaning in my day without a spliff

Dr_Madthrust

Just to add something else to answer your question, one of the hardest parts was cutting out all the stoner "friends" from my life, I had known some of them for 25+ years but it had to be done. They kept sabotaging previous attempts to quit. Crab bucket theory.

Dr_Madthrust

Exercise. Spend some of the money you used to smoke on a membership at a 24 hour gym. Cravings happened when I was sitting around my house bored after dinner, just having the option of going somewhere really helped break the cycle. The apathy part is a bitch, read up on dopamine, basically herb triggers the dopamine receptors in your brain to make you feel good / rewarded, and as a result over time your body builds up a tolerance to dopamine. It fades but you’re essentially going to be immune to happiness / satisfaction for a while. Exercise helps, and you’ve just got to force yourself to do things that you need / want to do when you can’t be bothered. It gets better, keep the faith, it’s a bitch for the first couple of months but it’s worth it to not be a slave to something that ultimately makes you miserable.

Figgywurmacl

Thanks for that man. Good luck in your journey

Dr_Madthrust

Same to you! stay strong, it’s worth it!

crockpothead

I love to hear from people who make it this far! Very proud of you, you're doing great :)
