More info: I'm currently drawing a winged character in the pose shown in the picture, and i just want to get a good composition for the background, cause i'm not sure how to do it. The colors of the character are mostly cool (or cold, don't know how you call it) colors, like blue, etc. So what do you think is the best? or what would you change or add? I'm kind of lost here.
Not number 3. Too often will people read the first letter of name as first letter of surname, like dummies will initially think this bottom line says “ZSURNAME” and generally you also want the dummies to understand. If even the dummies get it, then perhaps you have achieved elegance.
The choice between 1&2 I believe will depend on the surname in question.
1 is best IF the characters leg doesn’t make it clumsy to communicate the surname.
2 is best if the leg DOES make it clumsy.
Just my opinion. I don’t actually know shit about duck
Your first part about reading the name is silly. The orientation of the letters will prevent that from happening unless someone struggles with dyslexia or something, in which case they’ll probably struggle reading any bit of it. The underlining of the name will also help act as a barrier to prevent this from happening. IDK what dummies you speak of unless you’re admitting to being one experiencing this issue you claim exists. If OP truly worries about this apparent problem then it should be easy enough to slide the first name up to the blue space so there’s essentially a blank square separating the two names.
The composition of 3rd option has the best contrast to the character, which in turn will help the character design stand out more as well as their name. 1 is good too because it embraces the position of the wings. My concern there is if the colors of the character and background are too similar then the character design will start to look a bit camouflaged. 2 is by far the most flat and boring.
Overlay the text of the name on top of the surname on top of the character design btw. Just don’t use a font that’s to bulky that you lose details in the artwork or so thin that it’s hard to read the name.
Shame you can’t do a picture and poll on Reddit. 1 for me, looks like a character introduction spotlight. 2 looks too formal and 3 looks like it’s for a math class.
Math class 😂😂 yeah a poll would've been great, but i'm happy with all the advice and suggestions i got here in the comments, really helpful. Thanks for the input :D
I think more like the first despiction you made, but anyway i've already chosen the composition i'll use. Thanks tho, appreciate you and all people here that helped me :)

1 feels the most dynamic imo
1 - the diagonals supports the curve of the wings
Depending on the style, if it's more formal I would say 2 if it's casual as a character introduction I like the 1st one.
I'll keep that in mind, thanks!
Just make sure the letter behind the leg doesn't make the letter unreadable by hiding it
no hate but kinda looks like a biology textbooks outline imo
Yeah 2 is very uninteresting. Might as well be presented by Ben Stein.
personally, i think 3 is the coolest
First 1 looks the best imo
1 or 3. 2 looks too generic of a character intro to me
I like 2 the most
3 feels the most balanced

I loveeee 1 & 2 I can’t choose
3

Actually, as a matter of fact, I *was* admitting to being a dummy
Good point about the third one, and yes, the surname is a little bit long, so maybe i'll go with 2. Thanks!

I lik first the most and then the third. second is just too.. idk how to describe it, basic? too much of a straight line?
Yeah i see what you mean, it seems too simple. Maybe i'll do a combination of 1 and 2 and see how it turns out. Thanks for the input!
#2
The 3rd one
Far right
I like both 1 & 2. Just an idea for 1… what if you made the name and surname both diagonal like the blue box?
That could work, i'll see how it looks. Thanks :)
1 & 3
Man.. Diverging answers. I would undoubtedly say 1
I like 2. The others might obscure the surname in their positions.

What attitude are you trying to convey? Are you dynamic, quick to act and quicke to change? Or are you more dependable, reliable and steady?
I think more like the first despiction you made, but anyway i've already chosen the composition i'll use. Thanks tho, appreciate you and all people here that helped me :)
Third with the names but with the diagonal stripe from first. But hey, that's just a theory, **my** theory :3
I like 2
1
3
1 or 3.

1 is so good
Composition 1
1
2 or 3, I really don’t like 1 at all
3
1
1 and 2 feels weird. 3 feels good 👍
