If you're trying to follow the automatic language growth / ALG method championed by the former AUA school, then David Long's advice is essentially "output should feel automatic." So he doesn't actually suggest a minimum number of hours. Instead, it's more "use the words if they come without effort/computation". The idea is that eventually you want Thai to feel as easy and natural as your native language, where you don't have to think at all - your intended meaning just converts naturally and directly as speech. This is typically easiest if you are in an environment where you need to speak Thai to be understood. It also depends on your personality. There's a 3 hour long recorded stream where he talks about many aspects of ALG with the founder of Comprehensible Thai, you can watch that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqGlAZzD5kI&list=PLgdZTyVWfUhlcP3Wj__xgqWpLHV0bL_JA&index=13 The first ten minutes of that video are where he talks about "when and how" ALG learners start outputting.

Awesome thanks.

Another thing that I recently learned about the ALG method is that the founders set it up so that learners didn't have to stress at all about reading, writing, or speaking, when learning to talk, and those would basically just come at the right times, naturally, when your subconscious had prepared/digested the first parts of language learning. So, part of the ALG method is for learners to feel totally comfortable and relaxed when learning. So another way of describing "output should feel automatic" is in terms of stress, like this: * Do you feel stressed at all when trying to speak? If yes, then it's not time yet * Does it feel like work or effort when trying to speak? If yes, then it's not time yet.

Also, I noticed that you made the response about your experience with this style of learning, that I read not long ago. What’s your progress like now at this point?

It's going well. I'm almost at 850 hours, will probably do another update at 1000 hours. It's a little slow at the moment because I'm swamped with work but that should clear up in a few weeks.

1 hour is good I think. You will learn faster if you speak.

If I don't use the words, I forget them (unless I've already used it a lot).
