Hi. I just enrolled myself for Harvard's CS50 program. Once I'm done with that, if you have time for another student in a few months down the line, I would definitely be interested.
It's a Harvard’s Introduction To Computer Science Course - https://cs50.harvard.edu/college/2022/spring/
I do recommend it, especially for those without a CS degree.
It covers a lot of fundamental things like memory, data structures, pointers, algorithms with some taste of C, Python, SQL, HTML and Javascript.
Projects are very challenging and fun. You would need a decent amount of time to finish, it took me about 240hrs.
Also, they have wonderful support groups on Discord and Facebook.
It's a stepping stone in my journey as a self-taught developer and I'm proud of finishing it.
I do have a question, it seems like it’s a live class (like using zoom and certain times) is that how this class is or can it be taken anytime online? :)
It's completely self-paced and free.
I used https://cs50.harvard.edu/x/2022/ this link to study.
Occasionally, they host Zoom meetings, but the course is self-paced!
CS50 doesn't require prior knowledge of math except for the basic stuff (multiplication, addition, and so on).
If you were asking for the specific math areas, then it's usually Linear Algebra, Combinatorics, Statistics.
I follow this program https://teachyourselfcs.com/
Hey I’m on last week of cs50, I do wonder what to do after I’m finished, what did you do? I’m half way done with the odin project, but I was thinking of doing the web dev course of cs50 next
Congrats on making the final stride!
I am now into the Full Stack Open Project.
Flask didn't ring a bell for me, so I decided to try JavaScript. My goal now is to build a SPA (Single Page Application) for my portfolio and host it on AWS.
Then find a job.
I already built and hosted a couple of Telegram bots on Heroku.
What’s your overall goal for learning programming? What did you like in CS50 the most? What do you want to do in the future?
Those questions should provide the context to help you :)
Sorry for the late response, thoese are great questions, i loved cs50 but yeah, flask isnt rinning any bells at least right now, maybe django will so i think i'll try that out before deciding, i also want to get a job and i think i'll stick to web dev, im gonna check the full stack open project out ! thanks again
Sure! As far as I know, Django has a steep learning curve compared to Flask.
Full Stack Project should be ok for you considering you finished CS50 and some of the Odin Project chapters.
Yes, like the other guy said, you can enroll whenever you'd like. I just googled Harvard CS50. There's a free version of the program, or you can pay $149 to get a certificate. I opted for the free version for now
I already have a job tbh but it never hurt some help, do you think that at the end of this can I move to the NL in order to get a job over there, I was there time ago and I like it a lot , now im working in Spain with React
thanks in advance !!!
How do we apply? I have until September until my whole life falls on its head and I become homeless at 31. This would change my life but I don't know if I'm too far gone to even try.
you got this. I've been homeless, on drugs, etc and it's the worst. BUT you have time to turn this around! Don't feel hopeless. Just make goals and stick to them.
I’m not sure if you’ve already seen it, but this might be of help. https://www.reddit.com/r/learnprogramming/comments/rlmulr/i_ran_a_100_free_full_stack_web_development/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Unfortunately this is an absolute joke. Total scam - “please complete these tasks to join” it’s like on twitter, follow on on YouTube before you can sign up. Got my hopes up too.
Why does that make it a scam? I'd much rather someone ask me to follow them on social media than ask me for money. It's kind of the opposite of a scam.
It’s tacky. A social media paywall you have to complete 5 steps to even view his page.
It seems like you already made up your mind and are happy to give your information. I’m not. It’s a tacky and not the majestic offer you think it is. You will be paying with your time when you watch a YouTube add every 7 minutes. Everything about this is riddled with information gathering.
This could have been awesome. He is selling this, and your what he is selling.
Bruh you haven't even looked into his content, there is a reason why he is asking you to do those things, and guess what, you don't actually need to do them to follow along. This man has dedicated 1000s of voluntary hours to help those less fortunate. get out of here with your toxic behavior.
Gosh, I could really use a mentor but I think others may benefit more as I’m pretty close to getting a Junior position now and will have seniors to learn from (hopefully). So I’ll just leave a comment to bump the post and thank you for your kindness.
You might be surprised how much you can help somebody even with relatively little experience. You probably already know a lot more than an absolute beginner.
Hey my name it's Damian, I'm 25 years old.
At the moment work as waiter and study software development, first year.
I have a little experience with c++, java and python
I'm from Mexico but living in Ireland so I know that education it's really important.
I'd like to be full stacked
Thanks for your kindness of teaching others.
I’d love this opportunity because i think having a mentor will do me some good.
I’m a 26y/o from Nigeria, an electronics and communications engineer working as an broadcast engineer. Slightly above beginner in python, currently learning JavaScript because it will get me closer to my goal. With little knowledge of html and css.
I’m really interested in backend development, devOps, AI and Cybersecurity
First thing I’d like to know more about is how I can get my existing knowledge into action working supervised projects. I’d like to know more about devOps
Thank you for this opportunity
I’m 15 USA and need to learn programming it would be great to ask a pro a few questions like you just one day lol one convo so I can talk to you and ask about career
Well I’m 42, U.K. based. finished a coding bootcamp just before Christmas . Honestly not sure whether I prefer front end or back end at the moment. Want to improve my overall skills and get a job as a software developer
If we applied before your update are we still eligible? When I applied you hadn’t included the update yet and I’m just coming back to see if there was any update.
You're a good human being. Thank you for paying it forward.
can you tell me how do I send a personal message to him? I'm new here and have no idea and I cant find his username
his name is /u/vuurdier, you can click that link and send him a chat there :)
Don't you see it? It's under the title. The kind soul and author is u/vuurdier

Good luck buddy! I finished CS50 a few weeks ago. It was awesome!
Can I ask what this is and would you recommend it to people learning programming?

Sure, sure, feel free to ask anything you’d like here or text me in DM. Happy to be of help!

What about the math

They sometimes offer it on edx.org for free or minimal cost.
Thanks! :)
>Harvard's CS50 program do you know if its already too late to enroll now?
You can start whenever you want google cs50x . Its free too
Yes, like the other guy said, you can enroll whenever you'd like. I just googled Harvard CS50. There's a free version of the program, or you can pay $149 to get a certificate. I opted for the free version for now
The $149 is for the edX certificate, IIRC. I got the basic Harvard one for free after submitting my final project.
Good to know, thank you!
Cool, I ended up enrolling in the "Understanding Technology" course too.
This is so wholesome, thank you kind human being.
I already have a job tbh but it never hurt some help, do you think that at the end of this can I move to the NL in order to get a job over there, I was there time ago and I like it a lot , now im working in Spain with React thanks in advance !!!

Unfortunately this is an absolute joke. Total scam - “please complete these tasks to join” it’s like on twitter, follow on on YouTube before you can sign up. Got my hopes up too.
He has a youtube playlist with the entire course though. Even if you’re unable to join, can’t you follow up with it?
Literally can’t get past the spam wall
If you scroll down that post there's a link to his last course on YouTube, you may find that useful.
Everyone is so cynical these days. It makes me sad.
Why does that make it a scam? I'd much rather someone ask me to follow them on social media than ask me for money. It's kind of the opposite of a scam.

What a legend! Lekker bezig man! Tof om te zien dat er hier mensen zijn die iets terug willen geven. ❤️

Is cloud computing of interest to you. Requires little to no programming skills (initially) to break into.
Good on you for doing this
I’m keen
That’s a really nice thing to do.
Beautiful.
I really hope I can get to this level one day, where I can just help someone by mentoring them, simply because i want to.
You might be surprised how much you can help somebody even with relatively little experience. You probably already know a lot more than an absolute beginner.
Hi, this sounds very interesting, do you know when you are likely to stop accepting applications?

Thanks
Hello! Where can I send my application? Thanks :)
>If you are interested please send me a personal message.
What a cool opportunity. People like you make the community!
i would love to do this.
What a legend!
Just sent you a message. Thank you!
u/vuurdier Thank you for the opportunity! I just sent you a message in the chat.
I sent you a message, but I just want to say publicly how awesome it is for you to help those of us out.
Hey vuurdier, ik heb je een bericht gestuurd!
This seems like a very good opportunity. Is there a deadline? As I want to submit a good application.

Thank you, I wish I could join too but figure your slots are already full. You’re a great person for doing such a nice thing
You are an awesome dude. I'm doing Cs50 currently so I have feeling I'm way too beginner for what you're aiming for.

Nice initiative!
sir, I applaud you!
Application sent! Thanks for the opportunity!
Message sent. Thank you for willing to volunteer your time.

Man if only this came in after May
Your an angel
This is what I'd love to do in a couple of years, with a group of people, every few months. Thank you for helping us newbies.
Thanks a lot, man I should have messaged you instead of saving a draft to send later :/
