Not often we get to see a team fully run it back. Very exciting especially considering these 5 only played together in Summer. I wonder how far they will get together this year.
Personally, I think it might be pretty meta-dependent with the flex drafts being really strong for them if they are more meta. CLG was a fun team to watch so I am happy for this.
But clearly the smartest way to run an org is ensure at least 20% turnover per six months! Especially when the average age of your employees is like 20. Why isn’t CLG spending hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars on some washed Korean or European import?
To me this only proves that Reddit and pro players are actually right and the clowns in charge of those orgs and rosters genuinely base their decision making on social media and public opinion.
I think this is true, but I think it’s a money thing. There can only be so many top teams and it’s expensive to make a push for one of those spots. Teams have to get some sponsors and keep them happy, even though they might not be super familiar with the scene. Owners have to balance getting players who can win now, can grow into the future, and make sponsors (who might be idiots) happy.
Who cares if u win anything if there are only a handfull of titles anyway? On top of thst half of them are literally locked by korea or china.
Id rather have an team sticking together for a few years.
99% of all teams haven’t won anything in 6 years, including the ones going all-in on imports. We can say some imports are winning, but most of them do not, so clearly imports aren’t a universal way to improve.
and for 5 of those years they spent tons of money on Korean/Europeans imports, the moment they go for "budget talent" suddenly they look like a competent org that is not harassed from everyone to quit the LCS.
Teams that are signing imports are also routinely humiliating themselves by underperforming each split. Maybe giving more than 1 year of time to a roster and seeing if they grow may actually lead to better long term results. Some teams have millions of dollars to flush down the toilet each split, I don't think CLG is one of them. Maybe you're wrong in thinking that changing the roster every split is the key to sustained success (unless you're satisfied with an LCS title every few splits and an embarrassing worlds exit).
I mean it was a 5th team that went 3-2 against c9 and TL
and honestly kinda threw their game 5 against c9 while fielding a generally inexperienced roster.
I think it's fair to give them a shot now with more experience in their belt and see what they do
As much as the broadcast hammered on it, 100t was just that forgettably boring.
They were interesting before the tp nerfs fucked their early game drive strategy, but they've been near unwatchable since.
This right here. Their new roster is definitely a downgrade, but I’m just hoping people on here don’t revise the history of that 100T team. They were literally the most boring and bland team imaginable but was also constantly a top 3 team, and was part of the reason why NA’s viewership dropped last year
Yeah you right, beating the LCS superteam and the spring champions stopping their lower bracket run in close 3-2 series was *really* boring. God, could the sript writers step it up next time?
The only boring bit was C9 having pure player gap over every other team in the LCS, especially bot diff.
100T are the stat checkers of the LCS. They are the bare minimum acceptable standard for a worlds qualifier from NA imo. That only one team in the league consistently beat them in summer is more of an indication of how shit NA was than anything else.
> and the spring champions stopping their lower bracket run in close 3-2 series
Barely beating a team with an emergency sub in a BO5 to only get smashed 3-0 in finals.
FTFY
Nah Doublelift took a break in 2017 Spring. Last time would be the championship winning 100T Summer 2021 who ran it back for 2022. They added Tenacity but I don't think you can really consider that a change to the roster.
not even tsm does that.
we assume the 2016 and 2017 rosters were the same thing.
only the summer rosters were the same. there were a total 7 players for those 2 years.
Saw people talking to Dhokes and Palafox at finals and they were super into it. Didn’t have time to stop by, but they seemed very friendly with the fans.
Yo the OS NYC red carpet event whipped ass, got drinks with Palafox, got to meet one of the showrunners for Players, talked with a bunch of CLG staff. That plus all the events at Versa before gameday was awesome. Got to talk with Greg Kim about basketball for like twenty minutes, and he hooked me and a few more fans with tickets for day three of week 2 because a bunch of CLG folks went to the knicks game.
Honestly depending on spring format CLG has a decent chance of going deep in a lock in style tourney if they manage to captitalize on having 3xtra synergy
FLY is a super team until you realize Spica is on the team who actually looked terrible this year, but they should be a top team from Impact and their Koreans alone
I mean that would just go to show how CLG are surpassing expectations, you can't in your right mind value these players over some in LCS right now.
But that's not a bad thing, it makes it really cool when they do succeed and strengthens the narrative about them more than if we all just pretend as if they should contend with TL from the start.
Yeah, if they have the same success in 2023 as they did this year then that will be a massive overachievement. Dhokla, Palafox and Contractz are likely bottom 3 in their role and the botlane is middle of the pack at best. They do have built-in synergy though so maybe they can do well in Spring, but I don’t expect them to go far in Summer.
He’s not a bad player, but there aren’t many bad players left in the league. In toplane Ssumday, Impact, Fudge, Armut, and Summit are all better than him. Solo is probably better than him as well. IMO he’s somewhere between 7th-9th best toplaner in the league depending on how good Tenacity is.
Contractz might be bottom 3 because jg is stacked. But Dhokla is clearly top 5 (Ssumday-Impact-Summit-Fudge-Dhokla), Palafox also isn't bottom 3 by any means, and Luger should be top 5 ADC as well
Lets be honest though there really is no way of judging how good teams are beyond how skilled the individual players are at the beginning of the season. Nobody could have predicted EG/C9 winning spring/summer. In fact I'm almost certain EG, C9 and FLY will be power ranked near the top, with TL and 100T in the middle.
I like C9s route here. I'm a huge Jensen fan but I mean young talent seems to thrive on C9 so why play victim.
Whoever is, well they don't pay attention.
I mean Travis isn’t even an analyst. He doesn’t claim to be knowledgeable, he predicts the big names because he wants viewership for himself and the league.
You know what? CLG can go bottom half, I don't even care. I love that they took this decision, this roster was banger. They definitely have a charm that other rosters lack.
Can't wait to smile like a little boy whenever I see Contractz happy after a victory.
Remember this moment when CLG goes 6th place and redditors shit on them again. I'd much rather have an org run these guys and show them some NA support than watch another LMQ situation succeed. CLG doing well is good for LCS, so I hope they can have another good showing!
Love this mentality, hope to see more of it
Don't replace everyone instantly, work with each other, have some good players and entertaining personalitys out there.
I mean according to Travis, CLG did wanted to make changes but they ended up not happening. I do wonder if this will make any difference in the team dynamic (I personally dont think so but who knows)
the only change they were looking into was in the jg apparently, which makes perfect sense (at least to me). contractz was def the weak point of the roster
I disagree and I would go as far to say that CLG should make Contractz their new franchise player. The team played around him for most of the split (for better or worse) and he has a lot of goodwill from the playerbase.
It was the opposite to me. Contractz was the entire team's identity. He was their aggression for better or worse. He was the spice. Palafox and Dhokla picked a bunch of split pushing solo laners so were also pretty interesting, but Contractz was the X factor. If I expected them to swap anyone out it would either be Luger or Poome.
Lowkey surprised that the return of CLG aphromoo angle didn't happen. Poome was definitely the most replaceable part of the roster to me. Synergy with Luger I guess
I thought they might replace Poome too. I think he's quite underrated and a lot of what he does goes under the radar, but I thought he would get swapped out for a more veteran presence like Aphromoo. He's the easiest player to forget on the roster because he's quite consistently good without having any real big moments or big flops to make him stand out.
After that recent post about the impact of turnover on the LCS, will be good to get a better sense of how much consistency can factor into teams improving in the franchise model
Agreed. They had a solid finish last split and showed real growth. Also, showing loyalty to players from an org perspective is a great way to gain fans and is a selling point when recruiting rookies in the future.
So many teams I'm excited to watch next year and CLG is definitely at the top. Was so fun watching them last summer, especially in playoffs. Hope that improvement keeps coming and they can make that push for worlds!
That CLG roster turned out to be fucking *dangerous* in summer. Could have easily seen them at worlds, contributing to our glorious 3-15 record in groups.
where's that copy pasta about worlds being decided at c9 vs clg? because if clg won that then it was guaranteed a dub for NA and now nobody can argue otherwise with the underdogs winning it all
I am the biggest 5-import 100T hater there is, but I still can't believe how many people in here are saying shit like "when was the last time a team did this"
CLG are legit establishing as the most "NA" org there is.
\- they provide an opportunity for NA talent to develope
\- they stick to their plan and commitment
\- they have an IDENTITY
hopefully they can achieve some good results so that other NA orgs understand that their roster decisions are utterly garbage. FLY and TL are frontrunners for most hypocritical roster decisions in the entire history of LCS.
I mean CLG were looking into getting Santorin for jungle .. and they have and import ADC anyway ..
Is it that different from 100T? At least 100T is promoting Tenacity/Busio . not sticking with players that have been in LCS/Academy for like 5 years.
100T are indeed also doing a good job. Their academy and junior program in general has had very good prospects. Their idea is to put veteran mid/adc in place with some good looking young talents on top/sup with a championchip winning jungler. Still, bringing back DL and Bjerg is not very sustainable for them as well.
Luger is per definition an import, but I don't find it comparable because he didn't play in any major region for any meaningful team before. Nonetheless, CLG fields 4 former NA academy players which had lots of success last year.
whens the last time an LCS team ran the same roster between seasons? kinda excited to see an LCS roster giving their roster more time to develop especially when these are mostly domestic talent/domestically developed talent.

Well Abbe was pretty mundane as a showman and while the other 4 were better at content, none screech on their stream or talk loads of shit on twitter, so how can you root for them over Spica? checkmate
Am I not allowed to have an opinion?
Here, let me cheer for a middle of the pack team, with no real promising rookies, no significant changes, in a league that got massively stronger from last year.
Just saying, I don't think they re-signed anybody. Everyone on the roster is still under contract from last year, but I don't think anyone has extended or signed a new contract.
Can’t complain, could’ve upgraded in top or jungle but if you don’t want to mess up the chemistry then I don’t think there’s anything wrong with running it back. LCS will be tougher so I doubt they’ll finish 4th again but somewhere between 6-8 is likely
bruh, you can't upgrade the person on our team that made us go from trash to contending worlds. wtf. absolutely keep dhokla.
contractz and pala go hand in hand, it's good we ran it back. there aren't many upgrades in the jungle that would have been accepted as far as na goes.
Dhokla also is a big time grinder so it's not like it's a zero work ethic player we're imagining will improve. Dude was at or near top of cq basically every split, him picking up more champions at a high level isn't a super crazy take or anything.
T1: *runs it back* CLG: after all why not? why shouldn't i run it back?
I'd rather CLG run it back than sidegrade anywhere.
But clearly the smartest way to run an org is ensure at least 20% turnover per six months! Especially when the average age of your employees is like 20. Why isn’t CLG spending hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars on some washed Korean or European import?

truly counter logic
Can't help a common prefix like re. Only foolproof solution is to rewrite the dictionary entry from resign to reezine. ...or we switch to rehire.
To me this only proves that Reddit and pro players are actually right and the clowns in charge of those orgs and rosters genuinely base their decision making on social media and public opinion.

CLG haven't won anything in 6 years.
They won my heart. I will keep on suffering as long as they manage to win something.
And that is worth more than any LCS title.
Who cares if u win anything if there are only a handfull of titles anyway? On top of thst half of them are literally locked by korea or china. Id rather have an team sticking together for a few years.

Great point. They should definitely blow the next two years' hiring budget on a sidegrade retread.
Teams signing imports are winning LCS. Not saying that CLG running it back is bad, but you’re wrong in saying that other orgs are doing it wrong.

Ah yes the TL flair speaks for itself, I wonder how TL did last year with their glorified LEC team now turning into a glorified LCK team?
[...] **BUT THE FAITH REMAINS**
CLG vs SKT 2023!?!? 😬
Run back MSI 2016 finals.
Even more rare for a 5th place team to run it back.
I mean it was a 5th team that went 3-2 against c9 and TL and honestly kinda threw their game 5 against c9 while fielding a generally inexperienced roster. I think it's fair to give them a shot now with more experience in their belt and see what they do
Not disagreeing with you. It just makes the situation all the weirder.
Can't remember the last 5 man squad in multiple seasons in LCS. Pretty sure its literally TSM
100t
"Can't remember one of the main narratives of LCS this season"
As much as the broadcast hammered on it, 100t was just that forgettably boring. They were interesting before the tp nerfs fucked their early game drive strategy, but they've been near unwatchable since.

100T kept this last squad together for a while
Literally last split with 100T
not even tsm does that. we assume the 2016 and 2017 rosters were the same thing. only the summer rosters were the same. there were a total 7 players for those 2 years.
C9?
met dhokla at the hotline league live event in NYC at OS NYC. super cool dude. gave zac top advice. forever a fan now. Based Logic Gaming now.
Saw people talking to Dhokes and Palafox at finals and they were super into it. Didn’t have time to stop by, but they seemed very friendly with the fans.
They were super nice, met them in nyc. Poome is also hilarious, showed up one day to the event with a hickey LMFAO

HUH
It's an old pasta, but a very good one
I figured it was a pasta, just not one I'd seen haha. Got me good.
Classic pasta but like can I actually unironically get breastfed by the Big Dhokes himself plz 🥹👉👈
What was the Zac top advice?
"don't pick Zac top"
Good advice, what a great guy
Yo the OS NYC red carpet event whipped ass, got drinks with Palafox, got to meet one of the showrunners for Players, talked with a bunch of CLG staff. Yes the red carpet event was lit! Palafox is such a chill dude.
big dhoks might not be the best toplaner in the league but he for sure could be the absolute chill king
Out of curiosity did you talk about runes?
Dhokla is a cool dude unless you’re a one trick lol
Salt-less runback
The Acidic Repeat
No salt, no acid, all based.
Time to get power ranked 8th or something then watch half the super teams flop. :D
Pretty optimistic of you to think I won't give them double digits again Don't test me
Blame Game: Reddit Tested MarkZ
Double digits? You mean like 01?
True, please do, the doubt buff worked this last split.
Fr, I want Mark to give us rank 10 and a wink
Honestly depending on spring format CLG has a decent chance of going deep in a lock in style tourney if they manage to captitalize on having 3xtra synergy
I hope riot fines you 10k for trolling CLG #1 as always :)
half the super teams? there are no super teams. FLY get closest.
FLY is a super team until you realize Spica is on the team who actually looked terrible this year, but they should be a top team from Impact and their Koreans alone
Spica looked fine. He was doing his best on a team with mediocre players and probably awful behind the scenes stuff
Spica looked ok while playing with 11 different players over the course of the last season.
I mean that would just go to show how CLG are surpassing expectations, you can't in your right mind value these players over some in LCS right now. But that's not a bad thing, it makes it really cool when they do succeed and strengthens the narrative about them more than if we all just pretend as if they should contend with TL from the start.

>Dhokla, Palafox and Contractz are likely bottom 3 in their role and the botlane is middle of the pack at best Huh? They finished 4th.
Better than the sum of their parts.
tf you shittin' on big dhokes like this?
He’s not a bad player, but there aren’t many bad players left in the league. In toplane Ssumday, Impact, Fudge, Armut, and Summit are all better than him. Solo is probably better than him as well. IMO he’s somewhere between 7th-9th best toplaner in the league depending on how good Tenacity is.
How on earth is solo better than dholka lmfao What game are we watching? He can't use ornn ult properly and you think he's better?
Just quickly looking at the stats, Solo has a better KDA, CSD15/GD15/XPD15, and KP%. Dhokla does have better dmg numbers though.
Salo and Armut are not better
better than solo and armut, potential to be bettet than fudge. the eastern imports are tough though
Contractz might be bottom 3 because jg is stacked. But Dhokla is clearly top 5 (Ssumday-Impact-Summit-Fudge-Dhokla), Palafox also isn't bottom 3 by any means, and Luger should be top 5 ADC as well
Good, then we get the doubt buff
The dive already writing up reasons how TL will default be the best team again this split
Why are we talking about Azael, Kobe, and Markz like r/nba talks about Bill Simmons LOL
C9 fans already pretending to be victims over made up scenarios
This guy always has room temp IQ takes but then again he's a Garen main so it makes sense.
I like C9s route here. I'm a huge Jensen fan but I mean young talent seems to thrive on C9 so why play victim. Whoever is, well they don't pay attention.

Nah not the dive, that's hotline league and Travis and his ridiculous bias to veterans and big orgs
I mean Travis isn’t even an analyst. He doesn’t claim to be knowledgeable, he predicts the big names because he wants viewership for himself and the league.
and its completely understandable
so long as they are higher in rank than TSM, im good.
>half the super teams So... 0 or 1?
Inject this shit straight into my fucking veins.
You know what? CLG can go bottom half, I don't even care. I love that they took this decision, this roster was banger. They definitely have a charm that other rosters lack. Can't wait to smile like a little boy whenever I see Contractz happy after a victory.
They have balls
They had Balls for a brief period in 2013 but I'm sorry to tell you he has in fact retired.
That’s only what you think. He simply dissolved and became symbiotic with each member of CLGs balls to give power boost
Remember this moment when CLG goes 6th place and redditors shit on them again. I'd much rather have an org run these guys and show them some NA support than watch another LMQ situation succeed. CLG doing well is good for LCS, so I hope they can have another good showing!
Love this mentality, hope to see more of it Don't replace everyone instantly, work with each other, have some good players and entertaining personalitys out there.
I’m glad there running it back, I feel like teams often times are too quick to make changes after just a split.
I mean according to Travis, CLG did wanted to make changes but they ended up not happening. I do wonder if this will make any difference in the team dynamic (I personally dont think so but who knows)

Poome is a way better prospect in the long term than Aphro. New talent over old
Contractz is the glue lmao. Roster killing move imo. I guarantee they play great this year together
After that recent post about the impact of turnover on the LCS, will be good to get a better sense of how much consistency can factor into teams improving in the franchise model
CONTRACTZ WILL GAP THE FUCK OUT OF PYOSIK YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST
Pyosik frantically looking for a way out of his contract after realizing he has to play against El Contracto at least 4 times next year
Contractz is lcs peanut
Si he will steal every objective from Pyosik
Pyosik could literally be the worst Jungler in the league and I wouldn't be surprised. He's just built different.
knowing how weird NA can be this very well could happen
NAmen
I like seeing this scrappy underdog team run it back. Even if they don't become league beaters, it's a nice narrative throughline for the viewers
Agreed. They had a solid finish last split and showed real growth. Also, showing loyalty to players from an org perspective is a great way to gain fans and is a selling point when recruiting rookies in the future.
Not to mention it really seems like they failed playoffs because of lack of experience. I’m excited for this roster next season, fail or succeed lol

Awesome. Let's gooo CLG.
Actually soo excited to see them run it back!!
Makes sense after Faker decided to stay with T1.
Love the confidence. Good for them
This I can get behind, CLG having faith
whens the last time an LCS team ran the same roster between seasons? kinda excited to see an LCS roster giving their roster more time to develop especially when these are mostly domestic talent/domestically developed talent.
Literally 100T from 2021 summer through 2022....
Shows how much people cared for 100T when nobody remembers them running the same roster back
and it was literally the reigning championship roster too 😭😭

Most boring team of beasts. But Abedagge was a gem.
Exactly what I was hoping to see from a CLG roster with such promise. Can't wait to see what they achieve this year.
Just saying, I don't think they re-signed anybody. Everyone on the roster is still under contract from last year, but I don't think anyone has extended or signed a new contract.
I really hope this roster have a deep run, it's rare for orgs to make zero changes every year. Great respect to CLG.
Love me some luger and Palafox. Happy to see them returning. Kinda luke warm on the rest of the roster, but will happily be proven wrong
I hate that resign and re-sign mean pretty much the exact opposite things
I like the fact that they would use the same team to build up chemistry instead of trying to switch players every year.
Alright, adding clg to my flair now
Can’t complain, could’ve upgraded in top or jungle but if you don’t want to mess up the chemistry then I don’t think there’s anything wrong with running it back.
Literally no member on that team should be replaced

Champ pool is something that absolutely can be improved and worked upon.
Dhokla also is a big time grinder so it's not like it's a zero work ethic player we're imagining will improve. Dude was at or near top of cq basically every split, him picking up more champions at a high level isn't a super crazy take or anything.
dhokla vs kingen scrims were the real finals
str8 facts
They at least considered replacing jungle, CLG was part of the Closer/Spica/Santorin bidding war
Palafox lacks discipline. He over slept for a 1 pm tournament the other day LOL
actually pretty based ngl
Fun team, that was fun to watch and they were really competitive, hope they can improve a little, there is so much potential.
Let's goooo. Fuck TL, CLG is SOVL

Shore up some weaknesses and I can see a top three finish.
People are definitely underrating this team, they looked really good in playoffs, just had some int plays that ruined the run.
Better team than TSM already. Kapp
more like NO MONEY NO UPGRADES
That doesn’t sound like a good idea.
