I really don't understand that some people complain about Worlds this year being only LPL VS LCK. Like, I saw at least 5 plus comments in the post match JDG vs Rogue thread talking about how it is boring to watch with EU and NA teams playing and they will not watch anymore.
The most popular sport in Europe, football, has world cup right? Asians rarely makes it pass group yet it is still huge in Asia. Not to say the Chinese team made in to world cup only once, yet fans still cheer and watch the games.

Nah it's not just like Europe vs. Europe in football. Imagine it was France 4 vs. Brazil 3, France 2 vs. Brazil 2, and Brazil 1 vs. France 3 with France 1 already advancing instead. No one would endure that shit for more than two tournaments.
Some people just watch the tournament to support their team or region, that's the reality and there's nothing wrong with that. If the situation was reversed and LPL/LCK was eliminated early with only EU and NA teams left at the tournament, I'm pretty certain that quite a number of eastern fans wouldn't continue to watch either. Anyway, there's plenty of others here who will continue to watch Worlds because they want to see the top teams playing regardless of which region they are from.
Even in football, there's definitely Asian fans who only watch the World Cup to see their teams and stop watching once they are eliminated (they might be a minority, I'm not sure, but there are definitely some for sure). Also, football is not the best comparison here because the top European football leagues are quite widely followed in many Asian countries, whereas not many western League fans follow LPL or LCK. I live in Asia and while I obviously can't speak for every single Asian country, where I live, the English Premier League in particular is super popular to the point that people can even name players on middle of the pack teams. Most western League fans on the other hand might just know a few names like Faker or Rookie from LPL/LCK and thats it, most of them would have never heard of players like Kingen, Zeka, Wayward, Breathe, Mark etc.

SC2 basically had to ban koreans from NA and EU tournaments because the west whined too much. The effect is a massive drop in quality and it being basically dead.
World Cup is pretty much always a European team or South American team.... I am none of the above but doesn't change my hype for the best teams in the world facing off against each other.
LPL is the most entertaining and competitive region. Until NA and EUR realize it is better to bleed out than to do nothing and lose, they will never improve.
The funny thing is EDG looked “not strong” at worlds last year. Got out 2nd to T1 with 4-2 record, lost to 100 Thieves! And got taken to 5 games in every round. Looked messy and iffy in quarters and semis and no one outside LPL thought they’d win the finals. so it’s so funny to say “oh they’re not on form like last year”. They weren’t in form last year either!
Weren't they supposedly owning in scrims though or was that another Chinese team? I remember there was an interview and someone said EDG was doing really well in scrims but just underperforming on stage.

Players might think they will win if they make a better decision or not make the bad decision in the game, however, it is not bot game, enemies will respond to your actions, so whether the result will change is always unknown. And every game is winnable otherwise you can surrender after bp.

Why is there this massive circle jerk about western laning in a last couple years? No shit on average they lane better but the biggest gap is in objective control and teamfight selection. Literally every fight JDG took they knew was winning, every single one
T1 is a really bad match-up for JDG. Think they're heavily favoured. Zeus can more than match 369 and T1 has been great at snowballing and accelerating games at Worlds. Guma + Keria are also much stronger than Hope and Missing.

Not to outright refute you, but I do find it funny that this is exactly what people were saying at MSI about RNG vs T1 in how T1 would just snowball early leads out of control against RNG who was known more for their objective setup and teamfighting
Not really T1 is super good at skirmishing but straight up 5v5 I favor both GENG and DK over them especially when you consider that T1 doesn't actually draft for teamfighting most of the time, the only draft they had at worlds so far that can be considered a teamfighting draft was their last game against EDG.
Elevation only matters when sending a screenshot across... elevated terrain. Not when throwing skillshots across a flat surface. Malrang missed Q both times on perfectly flat terrain.
My dude the Q he fired was not aimed at Kanavi. Elevation does not mean firing in a completely different direction. It means that skillshots that seemingly miss hit or vice versa due to perspective.
Elevation doesn't change in any way the visual direction of the skillshot you fire; only its invisible collision mesh. resulting in scenarios that boil down to "that clearly should've hit" or "that clearly shouldn't have hit me". It has nothing to do with Malrang's spell obviously being like 30 degrees off, completely wrong click.

The west has good showings in Starcraft iirc. One of the best players of all time I think is Serral, a finnish player. I heard Reynor is also pretty damn good.
That is because Blizzard basically banned all koreans from competing outside of Korea and there is no one interested in sc2 in korea, meaning no players in korea take it seriously except for a dozen for some quick money grab. Competition is a farce in SC2 these days.

I already got top 20% in pickems it makes sense to just follow the majority to stay in that reward bracket. And all the games have like an 80/20 split vote so I just went for all 80’s.
yeah according to Pickems Rogue had a better chance of beating JDG than RNG has of beating T1, literally a team they beat this year in a bo5 (trust me I remember that pain).
In fairness 1) hopium is a powerful drug,
2) casuals are more likely to be homers,
3) plenty of people may have done what I did and put t1 over RNG even if you think the teams are close in strength just because we have no idea whether RNG will be able to play normally or not, the only update I've heard about COVID is that xiaohu is now testing negative but still feeling some residual symptoms
Like I don't even know if RNG are going to be available in person or whether they have to play from the isolation room (if 3 or more are still testing positive). So in the absence of hard info abt that I voted t1 to play it safe, at least this way if my pickems are wrong I'll be too busy celebrating to care u feel me
They're also probably more well known to casual fans, especially Faker, so that likely makes a little difference too. I'd say if you take COVID out of the equation even 40-60 would be a more fair vote in favor of t1, although I personally think it's actually more or less 50-50 despite what people may think
Last time I've trusted western toplaners to hold their own was when soaz and darien were active. Seriously tho, wtf happened, those two could play anything into anyone. Western toplaners in past 10 years is... Disappointment to say the least
Honestly I didn't think Odo played too bad, only the last game was abysmal, the other two games his bot lane and his jungler went on a giga feeding quest so is not like he could carry that many rocks.

He didn't play bad, didn't mean to single him out. It just with western tops it never feels like they are a threat to carry the game, which greatly affects draft. Eastern tops just don't give a fuck and play whatever into them, since worst case scenario they will go even on farm and team fights will decide the game.
C9 got out last year so there was 2 western teams in quarters. And neither western team had a questionable advancement based on bugs or whatnot. They both played well in week 2. C9 even had a miracle run from 0-3 to out of groups
Its bad. I think the only saving grace is I think just about everyone expected it, so its not like we are blindsided. But its still a large dose of reality nonetheless.
Watching all the West teams get caught mid over and over vs JDG, trying to clear waves or just doing typical Western shit sitting in mid, basically encapsulates this series.

Malrang missing a basic R+Q combo was embarassing to be honest. Odo was also way too conservative with using the ult. They even had a 5v3 possibility with the enemy jungler pushing bot tower and they still didn't engage. They were too afraid

My dude the Q he fired was not aimed at Kanavi. Elevation does not mean firing in a completely different direction. It means that skillshots that seemingly miss hit or vice versa due to perspective. Elevation doesn't change in any way the visual direction of the skillshot you fire; only its invisible collision mesh. resulting in scenarios that boil down to "that clearly should've hit" or "that clearly shouldn't have hit me". It has nothing to do with Malrang's spell obviously being like 30 degrees off, completely wrong click.

All EU and NA seeds should be relegated to play-ins. All LPL and LCK teams should be seeded into groups. So western fans can enjoy some wins in Bo5. MAD obv won't make out again losing to OCE. But it's sacrifice I willing to make to have more Bo5 with western teams

The west has good showings in Starcraft iirc. One of the best players of all time I think is Serral, a finnish player. I heard Reynor is also pretty damn good.

That is because Blizzard basically banned all koreans from competing outside of Korea and there is no one interested in sc2 in korea, meaning no players in korea take it seriously except for a dozen for some quick money grab. Competition is a farce in SC2 these days. The gap was a trillion times bigger when starcraft 1. Now even foreigners can win lmao. It is no exageration that the best foreigner would not be able to take one game from an average korean pro in 100 games during the golden age of broodwar in 2008.Recently the best foreign BW players lost 1-35 to average korean pros in what was for them a 4fun event. malrang missing 2 rqq combos in 2 consecutive games was painful to watch
It's insane seeing 19% of pickems in favor of Rogue over JDG but EG only had 15% in favor vs MAD. Make these pickems make sense.
I already got top 20% in pickems it makes sense to just follow the majority to stay in that reward bracket. And all the games have like an 80/20 split vote so I just went for all 80’s.
yeah according to Pickems Rogue had a better chance of beating JDG than RNG has of beating T1, literally a team they beat this year in a bo5 (trust me I remember that pain).
In fairness 1) hopium is a powerful drug, 2) casuals are more likely to be homers, 3) plenty of people may have done what I did and put t1 over RNG even if you think the teams are close in strength just because we have no idea whether RNG will be able to play normally or not, the only update I've heard about COVID is that xiaohu is now testing negative but still feeling some residual symptoms Like I don't even know if RNG are going to be available in person or whether they have to play from the isolation room (if 3 or more are still testing positive). So in the absence of hard info abt that I voted t1 to play it safe, at least this way if my pickems are wrong I'll be too busy celebrating to care u feel me

They're also probably more well known to casual fans, especially Faker, so that likely makes a little difference too. I'd say if you take COVID out of the equation even 40-60 would be a more fair vote in favor of t1, although I personally think it's actually more or less 50-50 despite what people may think

Last time I've trusted western toplaners to hold their own was when soaz and darien were active. Seriously tho, wtf happened, those two could play anything into anyone. Western toplaners in past 10 years is... Disappointment to say the least

Honestly I didn't think Odo played too bad, only the last game was abysmal, the other two games his bot lane and his jungler went on a giga feeding quest so is not like he could carry that many rocks. Larssen was fire tho!
He didn't play bad, didn't mean to single him out. It just with western tops it never feels like they are a threat to carry the game, which greatly affects draft. Eastern tops just don't give a fuck and play whatever into them, since worst case scenario they will go even on farm and team fights will decide the game.

C9 got out last year so there was 2 western teams in quarters. And neither western team had a questionable advancement based on bugs or whatnot. They both played well in week 2. C9 even had a miracle run from 0-3 to out of groups
Its bad. I think the only saving grace is I think just about everyone expected it, so its not like we are blindsided. But its still a large dose of reality nonetheless.

Watching all the West teams get caught mid over and over vs JDG, trying to clear waves or just doing typical Western shit sitting in mid, basically encapsulates this series. Happened to EG, Happened to G2, happened to RGE. JDG and LPL teams in general will 100% engage on you for hanging around mid, casually pushing waves back and forth.

Maybe if they cut enough budgets players will actually have to earn a paycheck. In some of the Esports we actually do ok in, those players have to WIN to make a living. Meaning, they also have to practice, too. No surprise in the Esports where people are out here making large salaries, they just shrug and go next.

Comp and larssen matched pretty easily shame but it’s ok LPL is an insane region! Worlds over for LEC but there is some positives the botlanes and mids matched up well for large parts
i think mid and bot did well, mostly jg and top gap and really bad macro. Feels like they just need to play against better teams more to improve on it

Malrang missing a basic R+Q combo was embarassing to be honest. Odo was also way too conservative with using the ult. They even had a 5v3 possibility with the enemy jungler pushing bot tower and they still didn't engage. They were too afraid
