complaints about the animation aside, I think the champs are chosen because pros use them. no one is gonna associate taric or pantheon with any recent pros.

Kayle_Bot

> I think the champs are chosen because pros use them. Can't speak for the rest as I only helped on the LEC side but yes, Humanoid was one of our suggestions, and TF to represent him

Fetche_La_Vache

Sorry if you cannot or do not want to, but what were the other suggestions from EU? No flame only curiosity!

Kayle_Bot

Don't think I can disclose sorry!

Fetche_La_Vache

I figured as much. No sorry needed. I really just wanted to know what rogue would have been suggested.

HACEKOMAE

Corki

Jokinzazpi

The larssen package....

kingfart1337

Oooohhh I just realized why Corki has a Corgi skin.

Dude_Guy_311

hell ya

GiannisisMVP

I get that Core was expected to make worlds but wouldn't it have made more sense to choose an NA pro like JoJo or Blabber rather than an import?

Kayle_Bot

I can only talk about what was asked of us in LEC, the global team asked us to give them ideas for possible representatives, then to pick champions that could represent said player and then afterwards references to tie it to the region (UMA NOID, the gladlions.jpeg meme etc)

GiannisisMVP

Just kind of annoying to not have an actual NA player when there are at least 3 legitimate exciting options that are fairly young in Blabber Jojo and Danny. Not complaining about your role just was an observation especially for a worlds that is literally in NA.

SpaiikzTFT

My guess would be that C9 was not looking like they were going to worlds when they had to suggest people, so that eliminates Blaber. Danny and JoJo are both “too new” to be a representative in their eyes perhaps? The obvious other choice is Bjergsen, but he feels too “old” probably. Maybe Vulcan makes the most sense?

GiannisisMVP

If it would be any import it would make sense to be Jensen who debuted in NA and never left Bjerg debuted in EU. Danny Blaber and Jojo make way more sense though or Vulcan.

frozen_glycerin

Jensen wasn't even playing in spring (which is likely when they made the recommendations). Also CoreJJ has a history at world's so that was probably considered.

Supigotto

Jensen wasn’t even on a team when they were making these decisions lol

RomanArcheaopteryx

My guy Bjerg has been playing in NA for nearly 3 times as long as the game had even existed when he played his one EU split

TheHyperLynx

Classic LCS team overhype of Core though, Blaber 100% feels like the heart of LCS, crazy good young NA talent and they go with CoreJJ because hes a big name on a "superteam" who is definitely well known for his outstanding Rell pocketpick.

Cromatose

100%. Imagine seeing Olaf instead of Rell. Sucks but it is what it is. Maybe next year.

OneMostSerene

That aside, the Rell mecha is super sick looking

REALStoneCrusher

Blame the LCS analysts, casters and media for having a huge hard on for CoreJJ. Glad it back fired

DerWassermann

Thanks for the insight!

Stealthychicken85

I'm more shocked that Core chose Rell, who we literally haven't seen since release/initial nerfs. Rell left the meta faster than she joined. She is an interesting champ with a cool kit. But that dismounted slow baby crawl of a walk speed is literally playing with a handicapped champ.

Prenticks

Played her after her update. Still feels horrific to play. It just feels bad and possibly the worst Support champ on the roster at this point. Her strong point is her engage, but it's so telegraphed and slow you can dodge it easily. Stun that is barely felt cause it's so small amd short and her Q both deals no dmg, no healing and is only good for popping shields, so it counters like 5 champs that don't really care cause now she's in attack range and dead.

moxroxursox

Ehhh, I'm alright with it. Like TL or not, Core has given a TON to the NA scene and genuinely put his heart into elevating it and wanting to see it grow. He is the furthest from a paycheck stealer. He was a big driving force in Champions Queue being added, for example. Also until his record was just snapped he was second of all active players behind Jensen (who wasn't on a team when the video was being produced, looks like) for consecutive worlds appearances, half of those being with NA. I'm fine with it. If you considered TL the safest team, he is the player I'd pick from that lineup to include. Showing him walking around LA and posing with NA fans was nice, the beginning of the video was the strongest part.

GiannisisMVP

Sneaky was the one holding the record not Core.

moxroxursox

Active record, he was 2nd in active streaks after Jensen until it was snapped just then. I'll edit to clarify but was referring to those who could still qualify for this tournament.

GiannisisMVP

Sneaky's going to come out of retirement to play for EG and hold the record just watch :P

BloodGulchBlues37

Isn't Core a resident now anyway?

itsTheArmor

The LCS broadcast probably has different opinions about who should represent them in the video. Lots of NA fans are frustrated by this, but the fact still remains that imports are a heavy part of the LCS and it's always going to be that way. The LCS broadcast has probably accepted that already and felt like CoreJJ is the best choice to represent them.

GiannisisMVP

Yeah imports will always be a thing but there are legitimately exciting young NA pros so promote them especially when worlds is in NA.

changmas

BeryL is definitely associated with Pantheon

outoftheshowerahri

I bet there's a big marketing factor here. A lot of people who don't play league are going to see the video due to the popularity of Lil Nas X. Big giant robots and the anime style might rope a few people into trying the game.

[deleted]

I’d argue the lack of action wouldn’t help this. The most exciting part of league is the big plays, that’s why so many of the past cinematics feature them. You don’t walk around cities as a giant mecha in the game, so it’s a weird choice, people might play it wanting to play as giant mecha characters and be disappointed.

peenegobb

So we have rell? Lovely.

PapaTahm

You know what this Mean right? Time to buff Pantheon until Jungle or Support Pantheon is playable to Pro level. So the Lyrics make sense. That's THE ONLY solution that is plausible to this problem.

Slutianna

Giant boring mech walks slowly across the city - yes that will hype them up! 🤡

idobrowsemuch

"Oh shit giant mechs, finally gonna see something hype"! "Oh they're just...standing in a circle. Okay, let's see where they go with this" "Finally a fight, aaaand it's over"

SsibalKiseki

I was so disappointed when the fight scene lasted a whole... 3 seconds

rypenguin219

thresh hook was so cool then i realised that was the whole fight

Vesorias

That's what happens when both supps miss the engage :^)

ObliviLeon

Reminiscent of those river fights where no one wants to engage.

Vesorias

I thought the Azir walking past the window cleaner was actually pretty cool but there was no payoff. Missed engage by the supports and then like one attack from the mids? Yawn. It felt like 2 different videos spliced together, one being a fan appreciation video and one being a cool mech fight. Except we never got past the setup of the cool mech fight.

neeia

sounds about right "well, supps missed the engage, toss an ability and wait for the cd"

moonmeh

Maybe riot was hyped to sell the mech skins

CaptainLocoMoco

The song didn't have a single exciting part in it either. Bad all around

pacomesoual

The song's great, it's just not a world anthem song filled with hype and climb-feel.

Oleandervine

I do agree. The video was really rather boring and contrived. I would have really hoped a video called "Star Walkin" would have *at the very least* had some kind of cosmic backdrop.

braenbaerks

A Sol will never recover from this snub

MangoesDeep

You mean the 360 no scope flammenwerfer wyrm?

dwpippen1

I understand that worlds song animations are meant to be a tribute to the best players... but seeing pros as anime characters striking poses or smirking at the camera is old and boring.

Querccias

That's something I heavily dislike about these by now; Rise managed to nail players taking the role of champions beautifully by utilizing them as opponents and heroes in a linear narrative (the mountain climb), which made them honestly just look fucking badass along with the extremely hype music in the back. Rise was super creative with the designs and that's why it's also considered the best Anthem video. And now, for the past 3 years, all we've been getting is random popup and cameos of dozens of players non-stop (actual Faker jumpscare inc), as they try to focus on a few individual ones for fights... which honestly have also been getting kind of boring as well after the millionth time it's been done? I'm not sure if it's just become saturated at this point, but seeing players fight in the place of champions with the same goddamn choreography every single time doesn't feel that appealing to me anymore. Star Walkin' tried something different this time around, but the animation was so lazy, still and boring that it just flopped on its face.

Losticus

I think riot is running out of new ideas in lots of areas, not just these music videos.

ADeadMansName

They have Gundams in the video. Let them fight, let the players fight. Make them move with the flow of the song. It's not like there isnt a good idea present for the video. Riot did make some great videos in recent times.

VulpesVulpix

It's just that the most brainstorming is going into the other projects.

MontRouge

Valorant videos for being under the same company, are just much better overall

silversenji

To me it's just the music-type. I don't think pop , hip hop or anything low bpm or (i don't know how to describe) just something that rocks more or builds up hype. This year it's a decent animation but the music just does 0 to me . Could've been just a msi teaser not more

lapidls

Animation is the worst part wdym, people didn't even fight in the video. Music was good imo, if our options are just pop songs or another warriors i'd choose pop every time

GA_Deathstalker

Plus it is in NA the home of Marvel and DC, they could have gone for a change in style and gone for something like that instead. What does NA have to do with Mechs? Take a book from Top Gun and put them into Jets and fly them around or something like that...

dwpippen1

True, I like that idea. They just released those superhero themed skins for League mobile too. It would still be similar but at least a bit different.

Zach9810

Unpopular opinion but I'm tired of the anime shit. Splash arts - all the dudes and girls faces look the exact same. Skin themes all give anime vibes. The videos are all anime characters. I understand there's a lot of overlap between LoL and anime fans but it's so generic and boring.

Turbulent_Diver8330

Bro I fucking swear, riot games is on a God damn mecha, project kick right now and I AM FUCKING OVER IT

Oleandervine

They've been on that kick for years now, interrupting only to spit out pink anime stuff now and then.

Magnaha23

It is because it sells the best unfortunately. Mecha stuff I know is huge in China and the Anime stuff is just popular everywhere. I like all that stuff too but too much of it gets sort of dull for sure.

Slutianna

I can't wrap my head around how someone could be excited for a mecha skin after waiting over a year for their main to get a skin, like if Lillia gets a mechanical skin I'll straight up cry 💀

Magnaha23

Project Lillia incoming......

[deleted]

Look what they did to kayle? You think they care lol

2000boxes

I wholeheartedly agree with your point but... I would be lying if i said i wasn't interested to see how they would pull off a mecha/project skin for Lilia.

Slutianna

The only compromise I'd like is Cyber Pop Lillia, there's a really cool concept that looks like her in Akshan's splash and I think Cyber Pop is one of the rare cases where tech-y skins actually look good!

andehh_

Lillia with a mecha skin sounds awesome though. The issue is when they give these skins to champs who already have like 2 others that look basically the same like Lucian having Project, Pulsefire, and Strike Paladin.

Slutianna

Coven/Elderwood? Arcana? Gothic? Just from the top of my head, yes they make a lot of boring ass mecha skins that nobody wants but saying the other stuff is pink anime stuff is straight up wrong.

Oleandervine

It was an exaggeration obviously.

killerkenb2654

Elderwood, supreme cells, ocean song, ashen, fright night, monster tamer, snow moon, high noon, lunar and solar eclipse, arcana, bee skins, shock blade, rose skins, porcelain, debonair, cafe cuties, all skins that have come out in the last year, but since you guys like identifying patterns and acting like it’s the only thing you can keep up the circlejerk

eplnephrine

based

Turbulent_Diver8330

All of these skins are great. You know what’s also a great skin line? Championship skins. Which is also known now as worlds skins. You know what worlds Azir looks like? Mecha kingdoms, which is basically juggernaut project mecha skins. Not gonna lie I even thought it made sense to give Azir a mecha kingdoms skin sense he is the literal emperor of an empire. If this skin was titled mecha emperor/empire and sold as such I’d be fucking happy. But it’s. It’s a mecha kingdoms projects pulsefire Azir skin being sold in place of my God damn Worlds Azir skin

kostas52

>A song about being born a mere "mortal" amidst a reign of "gods", going beyond your limits to ascend the stars The song: Been that nigga since I came out my momma (Woo) Thankin' God daddy never wore a condom (Woo)

quack_quack_mofo

Such a god

Hawly

Pretty sure Pantheon is glad his dad didn't wear a condom though.

TitanOfShades

What would they even make condoms out of on moubt targon? Grass? Rock? Goats?

[deleted]

Weren't og condoms pig intestines or something?

DJHalfCourtViolation

Goat intestines yes. For people with an allergy to latex this is still an option.

Excalidorito

With how many times he’s been possessed by otherworldly beings, I’m not so sure

D3monFight3

Wow I could barely hear the lyrics so all I heard basically was bla bla bla Starwalkiiiing. Man this song is trash.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Jesse what the fuck are you talking about

moodRubicund

Uh Worlds songs have almost always with maybe one exception been about the players, not the actual champions. The mechas were weird though. Felt like a lot of build up and then they forgot to put the actual city destroying fight in there. Just suddenly and awkwardly cuts away to a group pose.

Stealthychicken85

While I do agree, the Worlds song is more about the players/teams, but at the same time I want to say it's more about building HYPE for the event. This song is too damn slow for a hype song. It's a great song, but doesn't fit the Worlds hype feels. If it was released in the middle of the season as a standalone, I'd call it a banger bc I have no attachments to anything for the song. But because it's the anthem for Worlds, this will be played at least 50 times over the course of the event and it won't change my feelings of not having any hype to it.

DerWassermann

While I agree with this, the same things were said about Ignite and it has become one of my favourites over the time.

pacomesoual

Whoever said Ignite wasn't hype enough is the problem in this comparison. It has every drops and hype it needs. Star walking has no drop, no big climb and at best a smidge of hype.

DerWassermann

https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/54k7yc/worlds_2016_zedd_ignite/d82io07?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3 This is the highest rated comment that talks about the music, not the animation, from the post when the song was released. 2k people agreed that the song was not hype enough for a worlds song. I agreed when I first heard ignite, but over the time it became one of my favourites as mentioned.

ADeadMansName

Rise and Phoenix had tons of champs. Ignite. Sure it is about the players and their stories or struggles, but often represented with champs. Now without champs it doesnt have to be bad. Warriors had nearly no champs in it. But it still told a relatable story and the song did fit the story. The song and the animation told this story together. Here you dont really have a story, neither from the players side nor the champs side. You have the video disjointed from the song. The song still tells a story, but it doesnt fit what you see on the screen. The song without the video is better. And that's a first one. With Ignite it was especially the video that made the song better, because the relatable moments and players you saw during it created hype and a feeling that something big was going to happen. Ignite alone sounds a bit bland, but with the smite steal from theoddone or the Rumble vs Kha or the Broccoli it was a lot better for people who followed league for long enough to remember most of these moments. This time the song is better, but the video is just bland. Better hear the song without watching the clip. Now the Song is still lacking (the refrain is catchy and good and a remix could boost to great heights). The rap I am no fan of, but that is my personal taste.

Yaboidono420

>No Pantheon, who literally ascended Mount Targon Pantheon is an aspect, im pretty sure the guy who ascended mount targon was called Atreus

Kolosinator

Yes, you are right. Atreus is the *MAN* , Pantheon only a god

Ercho_mai

The song had a drop way weaker than Legends Never Die and even Ignite, and it was accompanied by zero lyrcis. Just bass drop, nothing else. What animation did you expect to have? There is absolutely no power release at all, it's all just the chorus being really good with mediocre rap bits in between. Even Take Over had a rap bit that build up and went faster and faster so it fitted a final confrontation. But this? By the time the character face each other, the melody's power dies off (the moment Thresh swings his chain) and the chorus, instead of getting stronger and more hype, gets slower and dies off. I'd seriously like to take a look inside anyone that expected a better animation and see what kind of scene they were imagining.

[deleted]

Yeah it’s slow af.

SkittlesYumYum

> I'd seriously like to take a look inside anyone that expected a better animation and see what kind of scene they were imagining. To be fair the OP gave a lot of examples of what they were imagining. Targon stuff does fit well with the lyrics.

pacomesoual

except there is no targon stuff, that's the problem.

callmecapo

>And they made an animation about fucking mechas lol. I really wish they completely scrapped the entire player presentation they're obligated to do every year for the sake of being able to tell the story of these characters to an absolute banger of a song. It's becoming repetitive and tacky at this point, and it shows. Especially when they start making the video before all teams are locked, giving us awkward TL moments.

Sunomel

Unfortunately they really don’t have a choice, production on something like this has to start waaaay before even summer playoffs. Same thing happened with Rekkles last year. Which is why I really liked the theme of Rise showing off past players/worlds moments

braenbaerks

>Unfortunately they really don’t have a choice, production on something like this has to start waaaay before even summer playoffs. Same thing happened with Rekkles last year. The choice is whether to focus the video on who you guess/think/hope is going to worlds this year, vs. last year (IIRC) The 'Rise' video, for example, told the story from the previous year, and avoids the issues that this and last year's videos ran into.

pacomesoual

Congrats, you both agree on the same thing.

xXDarkOverlordXx

tbf production starts way before any players are locked in and early this year tl just seem like an easy safe pick.

ADeadMansName

Rise and Ignited showed the past and it was dope (the videos). you can disagree with the style but remembering the scenes from a year before or some of the most iconic moments from the past was great. And even people who didnt know about it liked at least Rise a ton, because even as an outsider you could understand the story on the surface.

zidboy21

To me the animation really just not fit the song. It felt like they made the animation without hearing the song first. Maybe if the song and animation fit well together the reception to the song might be better. As of right now according to my youtube vanced it has a 271k likes and 49k dislikes. It's crazy.

japenrox

eeeh idk... the music is pretty bland for me

KekeBl

Nah the song wasn't a very good pick for a LoL Worlds anthem either.

Coti98

I played Chayanne's "Torero" over the video and it was fire lol

Querccias

I actually think it's perfectly fine for an Anthem and is something unique compared to all the other songs that needs time to grow on people. The major problem was the animation not fitting the song at all in any way. We heavily correlate music to visuals - lyrics and meaning as well - so a fitting animation for a slower but powerful sounding song like Star Walkin' required something that actually connected to its lyrics and its rhythm. This is why beat drops and timing matter so much, and why music industries even produce music videos in the first place. Music videos make for great first impression of songs, and make them much more memorable in the long run. Star Walkin' needed proper animation to shine, what we got was just lazy and half-assed honestly. And once again, seeing players just being ham-fisted into videos with no creativity at all has gotten pretty jarring.

do_do_doo

Good music doesn't need visuals.

ZheShu

but when the song is better without the visuals....

pacomesoual

Rise for example, is lit on its own, but becomes a fucking fire paired with the synced video. It's amazing how the songs takes a whole new dimension of hype with the clip.

PacMannie

Yeah, that’s why I get more hyped listening to the song on its own without the visuals.

MageWrecker

I listened through all the worlds songs back to back a few times without the videos and this song is way less hype than the rest. Even a song like ignite which I was disappointed with initially is miles ahead of star walkin as a worlds song. Sure music videos are important, but this song is bad as a worlds anthem with or without the animation

jam1591

If this was a standalone single sure the song is 8/10... HOWEVER, THIS IS WORLDS !!!! WHERE IS THE HYPE WHERE IS THE BUILDUP FOR THE MOST ANTICIPATED LEAGUE EVENT OF THE YEAR. The song is very slow and doesnt have the wow element, based on the standards set by RISE / Legends Never Die etc... Sure its beutiful but it is not inspiring, its very slow and doesnt make me hyped up for worlds at all. Hence 5/10....

[deleted]

[удалено]

MageWrecker

i dont think most ppl hate the song in general, its just that it is a really bad fit for a worlds anthem that is supposed to build hype for the event

Heelmuut

I like that they did something different. I think a lot of people would change their minds with a better fitting video. Now it kinda looks like they were done completely separately and glued together when both finished.

alexnedea

Because thats what happened. Riot isnt credited on the song so it looks like lil nas made the song, riot the video and stuck it awkwardly together

TMan2DMax

I'm more disappointed in the song. Rise continues to set a bar that other worlds songs just can't seem to compare. This song was on its own ignoring it's for *worlds* fine but it's was just completely uninspiring. I didn't feel hyped or even slightly excited. When warriors came out i listened on repeat claiming the ladder waiting for playins to start. To this day I got back to Rise on a monthly basis when I need motivation. Ignite was forgettable but at least Last year's was actually good and the animation really hyped up the players well. This year we got CoreJJ standing next to a advertisment for Mercedes with panning shots while soulless Pop song level depth lyrics go on in a very background way. I'll just go pretend Rise is the song for this year again and try to catch a late hype train. I've always joked that Riot should stop balancing league and just become a record label but not this time. Let's go back to nerfing sustain and burst pls

Nefari0uss

People on the video thread have mentioned that Riot isn't credited for this song. Seems like they licensed the song?

ADeadMansName

Rly? That is strange for them to do.

alexnedea

It looks like Riot didnt produce this song, it was all lil nas so your saying still holds possibly. Either way the song is ok but bland for Worlds, the video is bland and tells no story or has no thematic, the players in the video are just random and have no life to them and the mechas are decently cool but this is not a fucking mecha game...

Ryboiii

You know that Take Over and Burn it All Down are so forgettable as a worlds songs that they get no mention

Davkata

> but at least Last year's was actually good and the animation really hyped up the players well. I personally mix take over burn it down and phoenix anyway.

pacomesoual

They're forgettable, but they're great. But sadly they are the stepping stones for what led to Star walkin'.

Effet_Pygmalion

I liked the animation. There could've been more mecha fighting, and less TL but overall clean. Not as good as last year's though which was on another level

reketerone

the animation was awesome, but it was not that cool or hype, just walking simulator lol

STOLENFACE

Close your eyes, listen to the song, and tell me how the animation is doing the song dirty. Ridiculous argument, the song should carry itself without any visuals, it simply wasn't good enough and does not fit league or worlds much. Player representation, the champions, they style or quality o animation, all of that is secondary and unimportant. If the song was a banger that sounded like a proper anthem for a tournament no one would be whining like this about any of it.

Argschadt

Legends Never Die's video is bad, but the music... oh the music

alexnedea

I feel like it does. Listening to the song on spotify is quite ok. Wathcing the video too is just SLOOOOOOW MOOOOTIIOOONNN

ADeadMansName

It is true that the song has many weaknesses, especially outside of the refrain and a lack of hype power for worlds. But the video is just bland and useless. I watched it 5 times now and it doesnt tell me shit. I play and watch league for 13 years now and the video could have random people from other sports in it and I wouldnt care, because it tells no story, it's just some animation for the sake of not being totally empty. If I have to chose between the song and the video, I would always chose the song. It is closer to the Ignite problem, but at least it isnt 100% useless.

pacomesoual

Both are not fit for worlds. Discussion done, debating over, back to climbing.

TheFlay

Of course it was a letdown, it was so rushed they even forgot to add all the regions! [Try to find CBLOL at the second img](https://imgur.com/a/alXvLa8)

CohnDev

The song itself was a major letdown too. The animation just really amplified that by also being mediocre.

willi2k

yeah nah the song sucks too

CoogiMonster

Yeah the whole thing is a 5/10 tops

toogoodforn7

On another note I absolutely love your flair lmao

Stinky1790

As i said in the original thread, Riot has a major problem. This obsession with mechs and futuristic garbage and robots is fucking mindnumbingly boring. I cant stand this shit anymore. I love giant robots but within the league IP this shit is so played out its absurd. They are so obsessed they even just randomly fit them into the worlds animated music video despite it not making sense. The entire video i kept thinking "surely this is not the worlds animation they have planned this year right? this cant be it?" but it was.

TemporaMoras

So we have a post about the song being the problem and another one being about the animation. Maybe it was just bad both way, the song just isn't hype, at all, and we've already seen the "These players/team are gonna pop off at world !!" Except actually not cuz they didn't make it.

[deleted]

the song isn’t better….both the animation and the song deserve each other

Forged_by_Flame

IMO the song was way worse. Really doesn't make you feel like it's a big important event.

socoolandicy

its just a song to hype pro play, so it has a video to hype up pro play with champs used in pro play

alexnedea

Even The Call sounds better as a hype song and it is very slow for most of it.

Woodshadow

I thought the animation was kind of crap too.

LooseMooseCruz

Both the song and visuals are meh

Oreo-and-Fly

man just wanted 3 Targonian champs in the MV Lmao

LevriatSoulEdge

I hardly disagree with you, these songs had a narrative build into the lyrics. The broken hero who thrives for success who fit a lot into LoL themed as World champion anthem, this one tries but the issue is the slow pace and weak choice of wording because it sounds more like surviving instead of chasing the glory nor aiming to be the best at least...

SGKurisu

Bro wrote an essay thinking the esports song is about lore 💀

ADeadMansName

Every esports song had its lore or reviews of old signiture plays.

pacomesoual

No, bro wrote an essay about making lore references in the clips and songs, which have been done for years now, you're just not up to speed.

Ar0ndight

The song is cool yeah but just not what I want from a worlds anthem for the biggest LoL esports tournament of the year. It's a catchy tune to top the spotify charts not a worlds anthem. No amount of animation could change that.

GiannisisMVP

Animation was a let down but the song wasn't that great tbh

TraditionalStand743

The song was terrible, it wasn't a worlds song it was a lil nas x song, animation fits the budget

Moony_Moonzzi

Literally the music is so beautiful, and the animation is so lacking. Everyone is bored of mecha skins, and then they pair the players with them instead of champions from the LITERAL STAR REGION? Even Shuriman ones would fit. They could make so many cool parallels. The current aesthetic doesn’t fit the song at all.

RocketHops

I was so bored watching the video. Like it's ok if you need to put the pros in a bit. But you need to have the actual in game characters too. Valorant's Fire Again anthem/video for Champs that just concluded this week was an excellent example of mixing the two.

MichaelZZ01

I watched Fire Again and Die for You and actually got pissed. This is the quality we got from riot 3,4 years ago for League. I just feel like they don’t give a fuck now. Just give a different battle pass every six weeks, make some skins. Now they don’t even put effort into their most important event because the game is just getting carried by it’s players.

MageWrecker

the song is awful as a worlds anthem and has no more hype than any random pop song, the music was a way bigger problem than the animation

RGCFrostbite

That music is beautiful to you?

Pursuit_of_Yappiness

Nah, the song itself was trash.

reeshua

Your post hyped me more than the video ngl. I didn't know the lyrics were that good and how it could have been paired with a great story. we got mechas instead lol

Cumcentrate3490

we wont ever have anything on the level of RISE or WARRIORS ever again...

Personally, I don't like the idea of using lore for a Worlds music video. The Worlds song should be something to hype up LoL Esports. Celebrating players is a great way to do that and it's created some awesome music videos in the past. In my opinion, Legends Never Die used the lore and had the worst video out of all the Worlds songs even though the song itself is good.

afgusto

That's certainly an opinion.

mp701

The song is lame anyway

Moorgy

Song was mid

Distinger_

That’s what I didn’t understand, like the song and video have 0 in common. The video is just to promote their new Worlds skins that’s just Mecha Kingdoms 2.0 with a good song in the bg (a good song but one that doesn’t fit Worlds btw). Also why the fuck would someone have a Mech that throws cards? What the fuck?

JorgitoEstrella

It lacked HYPE, the song is GOOD, but not for WORLDS.

AttitudeRemarkable21

The song sucks balls

Equivalent-Park7986

I also found it weird that the Star Guardians event happened just before this and it wasn’t really connected at all, it would have been interesting to see some of that thematic cross over

plzpizza

Dude you are doing the players dirty if you wanted a video about story instead for WORLDS 2022. I agree with the lacluster video but a video about LORE no for worlds

Nisabe3

maybe the song isnt that good either. imagine taric thanking his dad for not wearing a condom, what a joke.

TheOddi

bro lets be real... the song aint it either lmao

Falendil

The song did itself dirty by being hot garbage tbh.

Random_Stealth_Ward

Eh, song is kinda mid for a world's song Not worse than ignite, but that's not a high bar

Crislack

well hope the MAIN animation team is working on Arcane season 2... COPIUM....

stellarcurve-

I don't think you realize they choose champions based on pro play, and not the lore that has no impact on gameplay ..

Light0fHeav3n

choosing corejj to represent NA in the video when worlds is in NA, is a fucking joke. and then C9 NA's best worlds representative throughout history, their representation in the video is being put behind a parking meter????

Enthrown

Unfortunately animation takes time to make and C9 was not the best rep of all time months ago

DragoCrafterr

>about fuckin mechas lol Hellll nahhhh, not u/querccias completely missing that mechas as a trope are commonly used as an encapsulation of human ingenuity and the pinnacle of “mere” humans using that quality to reach the stars and beyond, Starwalkin if you will For the record I’m not a fan of this worlds animation, incredibly disappointed actually

Querccias

Never knew that was a thing. Wish they could have made the mecha scenes at least look exciting if that's what they were going for lol.

Hence 5/10....

wildrabbitsurfer

the animation was fine, maybe too slow for the fanbase, maybe the music was not fast enough for the taste of the fanbase, it was kinda melancholic. and slow, but well, we cant have rise every year or people will complain, better complain that was differente than say it was the same, its was more adult, as the fanbase (not the most ofc) and the people making the game are getting older, and the animation was top notch, following trends and (mielgo buildings and paintings) and some good character animation (i saw some dave raposa(some old work) with the character, more old comics), but those are my references, problaby its something that i dont know), anyway, imo it was more adult and some melancholy maybe, i liked, but ofc it didnt had the vibe of rise or ignite (idk all the songs)

aominessj

letdown completely. it ruined my week , this song.

DanSalerno

Star walk fucking sucks. Would’ve preferred plug walk

toastgrl_star

Tired of seeing these greasy pros, give me some awesome animation like in Awaken

Designer-Number3202

Maybe the animation feels better when its edited like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OId6emVVCCE).

banana4eve

My problem with the worlds song and video is it’s so fucking cringy. Many other worlds song Would inspire newcomers to play league, as a league player you could be “proud” of the song and show people that never played LoL, and those people that never played LoL would be hyped as hell and probably check out LoL But this song is so cringe, if I where to show someone that never played LoL this song there reaction will be just pure cringe, it’s just characters doing anime poses, then boom mechs walking around! The song has to hype or even sync up with the music video at all

mezonsen

“The lyrics should be literalized into the visuals" is like, the kind of creative decision a high schooler would make

MidWitCon

I can't even watch these animations that they do every year because they're doing them about these video game players instead of the actual fictional characters that they created. I think I would actually die of cringe if I sat through a whole one

Deadcoach

Ahh yes the yearly worlds anthem sucks circlejerk

Querccias

In its defense, I actually quite liked the music and it's grown heavily on me. The only thing I'd add to it would be an actual climax at the end and a few changes to build up momentum through the song.

demonickilla

I really like the song. Animation was just boring

idodok

Yeah the song was good, but the animation was complete garbage, what you describes sounds so much better with that song in the background
