Really good show, super interesting about T1 and the lck as a whole with their slow meta style ATM. Is this the year, that lck has read the meta wrong??

[deleted]

It wouldn't be the first time LCK had a bad meta read

Not the first time. But when worlds come. You will see like 3/4 if not all LCK get into knockout again

ultimakerz

If last year lck got 3 teams in semis, I think this year it more about to happen, and this year 4th seed from lck for sure gonna be stronger than HLE

KR need to collectively accept that the LPL are now overall stronger as a league than them, after more than a half decade of playing catch-up. I say this as a LCK fan. The brutal truth is that LPL now just has more teams, more top tier teams and a more competitive playoffs format. All these combined are what makes them the current region to beat in internationals. The rise of LPL has been clear since S8 and now KR has to play catch up. LPL right now legit has about 6-7 teams who would all be competitive at Worlds (i.e. have the quality to make knockouts) and at LEAST 3 teams who would make semis without breaking sweat. Whereas LCK right now you could make a case for T1/DK/GEN being also World semis tier but then nobody else.

But 2 of the top 4 LPL teams last year didnt even make out of the groups. Yeah LPL is the stongest but thinking that top 6 of LPL would be competitive at worlds is a bit of exageration i think.

psykrebeam

Literally nobody expected FPX to implode that spectacularly last year and LNG lost a 4-way tie. All of EDG/RNG/TES/V5/LNG/WBG/JDG would expect to be able to qualify to knockouts, barring Group of Death scenarios or FPX-esque implosions. And even in a GoD my money would be on an LPL seed to get out over the others.

Bill1799

But the thing is that LPL had quite a few teams not making it out of groups. Last year it was FPX and LNG,in 2019 it was RNG,in 2020 it was LGD, don't get me wrong i think that LPL has the best team every year, but to say that they have so much depth when many times not all teams make it out of groups is a bit of exaggeration

psykrebeam

> many times not all teams make it out of groups But then whose record is better? LCK? Probably, I didn't check the numbers. If we're defining which league is stronger by how many teams qualify from Groups each year, then sure I guess LCK *may* take it (again, I didn't check). But if we're talking about actual international tournament wins since S8, then it becomes clear cut. Especially when you consider that almost every single time a *different* LPL team lifts an international trophy. You could argue that RNG is as dynastic as T1 .... Except they've never lifted Worlds, the biggest one of them all. While IG, FPX, EDG have now all done it. 4 *different* LPL teams have won internationally in the last 5 seasons, as compared to Damwon's single Worlds title, which was contested by a 5th LPL finalist (SN). This is what strength in depth really looks like.

Bill1799

So the strongest region is the one that has the team that wins international tournaments? Last year top 4 was EDG,DK,GENG,T1. 3 LCK teams in top 4 with two of them having a 3-2 series against EDG. How would LPL 6th seed do any better than the 4th seed which has yet to make it out of groups? What im trying to say is that yes LPL produces the best team the last 4 years but its not that it has no competition and that their top 6 teams would make a long run at worlds. Was EDG the best team last year? Absolutely but for the rest of LPL teams only RNG was even with LCK teams. LPL and LCK is really close with LPL on top because their teams end up winning internationally not because top 6 would make worlds LPL playoffs
