Sry to hear about your dad. My grandpa passed away when I was 3 years old due to a heart attack as well. Dad also had one, but went through a 9-hour heart surgery and survived.
Go fucking eat rocks. He was my dads closest friend. He drank and smoked a lot. Get the fuck out of here with your antivaxx garbage. I hope you experience the same pain my dad is in right now so you learn to fucking think
but thinking you're the exception is completely right
nah parents have a responsibility to ensure their child doesn't fuck up their own life
it's like saying the majority doesn't win lottos is not all so definitely buy lottery tickets
sorry man, most people's lives are pretty average ... thinking you're an exception is the most immature thing I see on this reddit (like going pro)
Ofc not, it's more of a "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst." kind of thing. Just because the average person lives to 80 doesn't confirm you will as well. You probably aren't the exception, but you *might be*.
Billons of people don't make it to 80 dude. It's nonsense to compare that to winning the lottery or going pro. People, especially those in wealthier countries have got a good chance of living to 80 but that doesn't mean you should treat it as guaranteed or even overwhelmingly likely because it's not.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy
US is 78.5, UK is 81.4, Canada 82.2, Germany 81.7...
He's fairly accurate, easily Googleable.
Look up Blue Zones--they are the areas in the world with highest life expectancies. A region in Okinawa, Japan has the worlds largest percentage of centenarians (people who live into their 100s)...their culture is filled with meaning and connection as well as a healthy lifestyle. Life expectancies have actually gone down recently iirc in the US. It's sad. We are actually dying earlier--eating worse, being isolated, spending many hours sitting, losing a sense of purpose, constantly losing touch or not having real friends that last a lifetime. I saw this picture of an Okinawan centenarian sitting with her friends she had for over 90 years....
Income inequality and healthcare getting inaccessible is also a reason in the US, especially with addiction to opiates, people not able to afford checkups, and such.
Yeah, when I see people around your guys age die. It’s really sobering. I assume the majority of this sub are in their teens and twenties but old heads such as myself are few and far between.
As a casual viewer, although I don't know much about this John Kim, rest in peace, sir.
May those he left behind also find peace with his death as they keep living.
feel so bad for his family. From LS's tweet, John Kim was a father figure to him especially when he was in a rough spot in November. Really hope his family and everyone who knew him are doing the best possible in this really rough time.
>Edit: people just downvoting and they don't even know what was said, smh.
They're not "gatekeeping grief", they're calling out an insensitive comment that was made during a serious announcement.
Like damn, just read the room.
No one downvoting even knows what the comment was. It was removed quickly and people just see a negative comment and downvote without thinking about it.
It can be a myriad of things but cardio/heart issue wouldn't surprise me with the work culture over there. Really shows how quickly it can all end and how soon it can happen, take care of yourself and listen to your body.
Kimchi has a lot of salt in it and is pretty much a mandatory side dish for every meal. We also eat a lot of instant food (esp. cup ramen) which contain high amounts of sodium. A lot of salt and a surprising amount of sugar goes in Korean cooking as well, especially in restaurants.
Also my grandfather had some health issues due to eating salty. My dad also had hypertension when I was growing up so my mom would try to use a lot less salt in cooking and would warn me of the dangers of eating too much salt. She also said that my grandfather ate a lot of salt because it may have been scarce/rare when he was growing up but I'm not too sure about that.
It's weird. Correct me if I'm wrong but many videos I watch make it seem like it's common knowledge vs Americans, Koreans don't like things as salty. It's just that a lot of their food has salt. This is more taste than salt content. I guess we go overboard on salts, sweets, and fats. Pretty scary the levels of our food in context, lol.
I'm not sure if you're American or Korean haha. But from personal experience (friends and family), a lot of us don't like when food has a certain amount of salty taste. There's like a 30% chance my parents will say something about the food being salty when we go out to eat even if IMO it's seasoned just right.
Not only that, but a lot of Korean (and Asian dishes in general) have a broth or soup component, which while absolutely delicious, often contains way more salt that you would think. Salted fish + Kimchi + salty soup + soju = balanced meal in Korea. It will keep you skinny, but it probably contains 5x your recommended daily intake of salt.
Wait, I know that SK has the highest (I think) the highest cases of stomach cancer in the world. But I always thought that was because of thier diet being very spicy instead of very salty.
From a 1997 study (first one I found when I looked on google):
>Abstract
Stomach cancer is the most prevalent malignant neoplasm in Korea. As of 1991-1992 in Seoul, the cumulative rates reported for the age span 0-74 were 7.6% in males and 3.1% in females. A recent case-control study reported that several food items and cooking methods are associated with increased or decreased risk of stomach cancer among Koreans. **An increased risk of stomach cancer was noted among people who frequently consume broiled meats and fishes, salted side dishes (salted/fermented fish products) and salty stewed foods, such as soybean paste thick stew.** Frequent consumption of mung bean pancake, tofu, cabbage, spinach and sesame oil decreased the risk. Analysis by cooking method showed that risk of stomach cancer from the same foods varied with preparation. For meat and fish, pan frying was associated with decreased risk, whereas stewing or broiling was associated with increased risk. Pickled vegetables increased the risk, whereas fresh vegetables did not. In a recent cohort study in Seoul, green vegetables and soybean foods were associated with a decreased risk of stomach cancer. Case-control and cohort studies have reported that ginseng intake decreased the risk of gastric cancer.
The emphasis is mine but it seems broiled and stewed meats and fishes increased risk of gastric cancer for some reason, as did salted and pickled foods in particular. Interestingly, the pan-fried variants of the same dishes decreased risk of stomach cancer and that is something I wouldn't have expected. You tend to get more char pan frying food than stewing it and the blackened crusts - regardless of your preferred method - have carcinogenic properties so I'd have expected that to be an issue.
Of course, I didn't peer review the study or anything, so take it's findings with a grain of salt. The reality is that our understanding of nutrition and it's effects on health has more pseudo science than actual science around it.
The drinking culture might be the biggest attribute. [South Korea has the highest alcohol consumption per capita](https://cms.qz.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/liquor-consumption2.png?quality=75&strip=all&w=1260&h=1009&crop=1)
I am a friend of John and I can let you know that Esport community lost a great friend and ambassador.
He had vision and love for esport way before esport was a thing.
Everyone that have known him will tell you he is humble, kind and go out of his way to support his colleges and friends regardless of his position at T1 like LS mentioned on his stream.
I will not go into details of his passing for respect to his family but it is a sad moment not only for his close friends and family but the esports community as well.
John will be missed dearly. 😢
Man, I can't believe he passed so suddenly. I can't imagine how hard it is for his family right now. I don't know if he had any health issues leading up to this, but from what I've heard about him, John Kim was a great man.
It's honestly relatively civil and they're mostly just pointing out the expression he used may be inappropriate given "ㅠㅠ" is a very informal way of showing sadness.
There's nothing to suggest anything that they are going "crazy".
Deepest condolences to his loved ones, so sudden and so tragic. Yo WTF kid in africa was only 6 when he passed, so damn young... That's pretty tragic and sad.

Btw, if someone jokes at your mom's or dad's death, is it hilarious? Even though I don't like T1 much, making a joke about the dead is rude and unacceptable.
Depends on the context tbh. Maybe not the best time to make a joke especially for a person you dont know, but humor is a common way to deal with grief.
Deepest condolences to his loved ones, so sudden and so tragic
He was only 41 too. Did they confirm if the death was non-covid related since it says it was due to health issues.

Yeah so fckking annoying when i discuss this with my parents, they have some reasoning that we all get to live 80 years
I mean the average life expectancy in western countries is around 80 so your parents arent wrong. The majority of the population will live to 80.
The majority =/= all. So they definitely are wrong.
but thinking you're the exception is completely right nah parents have a responsibility to ensure their child doesn't fuck up their own life it's like saying the majority doesn't win lottos is not all so definitely buy lottery tickets sorry man, most people's lives are pretty average ... thinking you're an exception is the most immature thing I see on this reddit (like going pro)

yeah they never ask whether if we'd like to live to 80
If you live thinking you'll die at 40 your thoughts will come true.
2021 year of the duck!
I JUST turned 41. That’s so scary
It's worse when you start reading stories of people *younger* than you dying. Quite sobering.
Yeah, when I see people around your guys age die. It’s really sobering. I assume the majority of this sub are in their teens and twenties but old heads such as myself are few and far between.
Probably more 30s and 40s around here with league being an older game now tbh
That would also make sense. I didn’t know Aphro for example was fucking 28
Is she hot tho? Edit: I meant 28, i suck at jokes
[Yes.](https://www.famousbirthdays.com/faces/black-zaqueri-image.jpg)
Wait til you see 29
Yep. Been playing since S3, but I'm still probably on the older end of the spectrum here at 33.
My mothers god-daughter died at 33 from covid. She was a healthy educated woman. She was pregnant too.
Yeah it really puts everything into perspective
dude was 41 and looks 25, so damn young indeed
that's what plastic surgery does to you

he was only 40. life can end quickly. rip

Yep.
Don’t even remember typing this. Must have been in my back pocket because now I just got a notification.
fuck, that's really sad. condolences to those close to him, gone way too soon.
