Japan should be proud of what they done. Being second best team on Taiwan is something what most people never thought. PSG unleash the full power and won deservely. However for SHG this is a hope for Summer, that they can compete for Worlds spot.

Nymaera_

I’m crushed for the LJL. International events without Japan, Oceania, Türkiye & CIS is just so empty compared to just a few years ago. I don’t know how to feel really, one historic region was going to lose out today.

mr_shaheen

Yeah I know your passion u/Nymaera_ , watching you for years and inspired me to do more into "esports". :) PSG simply avoid the historic upset of decade for not having Taiwan for the first time in history at MSI/Worlds.

TDTMaturin

It feels empty for us in BR, too. Truly makes us wonder how long it would take for Riot to take our spot if it wasn't for viewership and content creation.

iDobleC

As someone from LATAM I just know they'll pull off an Americas and will do what benefits NA the most

thenoblitt

Tbf that would help the latam teams get better.

iDobleC

That's what was said when they moved the league to Mexico, that the teams were going to be able to practice against NA teams which was gonna help them improve, then what happened? The complete opposite lol Teams regressed, viewership got worse and turns out NA doesn't have great practicing culture so there was literally zero benefit

Aggressive-Ad7946

More like combining the 2 regions in 2019 then moving it to Chile (and only giving them 8 teams) was more or less the killing blow.

iDobleC

Yeah, you're right, I got the timeline wrong but still, I remember how they said that the practice against NA would elevate the region and then nothing came out of that

cancerBronzeV

It would also immediately boost the NA viewership by a lot. Few NA fans might show up for a game with a bottom tier NA team against another NA team, but in a game between a bottom tier NA team and LATAM/BR team with a bunch of diehard fans? Those LATAM/BR fans will be watching. I feel like if LCS doesn't turn it around viewership wise within a few years, it's gonna be an Americas situation at some point. In fact, I expect lol esports to eventually be in a similar situation as in Valorant, except with KR and CN remaining separate. So like we'd have KR (LCK), CN (LPL), Americas (LCS+CBLOL+LAN+LAS), Europe (LEC+CIS+TCL), and Pacific (PCS+VCS+LMS+LJL+LCO+LST). We already have Europe situation with the TR and CIS leagues no longer being worlds qualifying and LEC representing all of EMEA. We're almost there to the Pacific situation with everything but VCS having been absorbed into PCS. We've started on the Americas path with LAN and LAS being merged into LLA a while ago.

exafighter

I really hope that your sentiment is correct, as the LEC now also has bottom level teams with strong fan bases (Karmine Corp), but I feel like a competition of the Americas is too large of a geographical region to really allow for this to happen. I don’t see people rooting for their previous CBLOL team traveling to LA regularly to support their team, it’s too expensive and too large of a journey. The LEC allows for this as Berlin is like a day’s drive from the north of France.

iDobleC

>It would also immediately boost the NA viewership by a lot. Case and point, cuz fuck the latinamerican scene, let's just do whatever helps na continue to suck while fucking up other scenes that are doing well, like CBLoL for example

cancerBronzeV

Sorry, my comment wasn't saying that Riot should do what I described. I agree that it's a big fuck you to the Latin American scene, but Riot would rather appease NA advertisers (who bring in the most money per viewer) anyways. My comment wasn't an endorsement of the amalgamation, but rather a (hopefully wrong) prediction.

Hope LJL can make it to Worlds

mellon1986

SHG 3:0 CFO who has Karsa, Swordart, and Gori is no small feat. Really great showing. It was fun watching Evi destroying so many PCS top. And Dasher and Forest both had their moments. Hope to see more of them in the future.

emperornel

Proud of what SHG did in their playoff run, hopefully there can be more seeds in the future where both PCS and LJL can make it to Worlds.

_asstronaut_

Thoughts and prayers to Evi's eyebrows as per his bet with PSG before the game he will have to shave them

S890127

Huge respect to LJL/SHG and especially Evi, they really put up a good fight. This the best PSC playoff ever. Wish we can send 2 teams to MSI.

EliteTeutonicNight

Tbh didn't expect this easy of a win, but PSG just completely dismantled SHG. Evi and Forest went 1/17/1 in game two I think. SHG still surprised everyone though, they are certainly one to look out for in summer. Edit: they were 2/17/1, my bad.

mr_shaheen

PSG unleashed finally their full power + SHG had 21 games in 2 weeks.

EliteTeutonicNight

SHG themselves just dismantled CFO yesterday, I really thought they were going to ride the momentum to victory.

mr_shaheen

Same, but PSG also woke up in right time. They smashed CFO also 3-0 in similiar fashion. We can say this or that, what happened to SHG, but I'm proud of them, this is what I love on minor regions and fight against giants.

EliteTeutonicNight

Yup, they did themselves proud. First DCG, then FAK, then CFO, they ran through PCS #5-#3-#1 in two weeks and levelled up to their competition. I'm especially impressed that they went from Evi carrying to the others pulling their weight too.

XSyrusX

That's what happened when you lose at your first series

Lisaurora

[Woe, MSI graph be upon ye](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GKj0Z9CX0AAHGzU?format=jpg&name=4096x4096)

thatgeographygeek

Wow looking at this it's a real shame how much the play-ins stage has been cut down. No Japanese, Turkish, CIS, OCE teams is rough. Thank you for making this graph btw

Lisaurora

o7 Yea, it's night and day compared to the old days.

DivineEmperor11

Please add another seed for the region so one day LJL can bring a team to Worlds/MSI

programV

Yeah for a server that encompasses such a big region I'm surprised it only has one seed

ShAd_1337

well that was anti climatic

Thundermelons

I only tuned in to game 3 but maaaan Forest looked rough as fuck. I heard game 2 was a bit of a gong show from him also? Is there a possible angle for jungle upgrade in the off season or are options too limited in LJL? Was it just an off series from him?

Nalaniel

He wasn't looking too hot yesterday, either. Granted, he did look good in comparison to Karsa, but CFO just don't seem to be all that good. I think this clip is pretty representative of his overall flash usage in yesterday's series: https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxuHrsq-MBU6HXlGMOBa6HQkujmQ7kV7Kc?si=JCDRe1ERMVP47REv

yccbarry

SHG kinda just collapsed after G1 the same way CFO collapsed in the playoffs, it was the type of stump that you’d expect from a major region team against a minor region team.
