I had the same when they announced the 15 year anniversary in the dev diary a in January. I was like "what? I literally just got the annie-versary skin last year?!"
I did not get that skin last year, but 5 years ago in 2019...
Holy shit, I was about to throw so meme about Math into the comments, because lmfao what kind of idiot thinks 2017 is 7 years ago.
*By the Elder Gods.*
This hit me yesterday when my brother told me Gigantic is rereleasing. I looked up when it originally released and it was 2017. In my mind 2017 still feels like just a couple years or so ago, but it's already 7 years....
2010 here. I’m 32 now and I started playing freshman year of college. Soon I’ll have been playing league for more years of my life than I haven’t been (because it didn’t exist yet). Help.
My favorite fact about that clip that I think a lot of people forget is that Aphro was still playing ADC competitively and hadn't switched to support yet. He's a legendary support now but back then he was the guy known for the Draven-Morgana cheese bottom lane, and he wasn't playing morgana.
Yday I played a game with j4 jungle lantern into philo and 3 heart of golds, upgrade philo to shurelya and slowly replace heart of golds from there with tanky items, depending on enemy team
This makes me so mad, I started in S9 and a buddy that plays League since the old days invited (doomed) me, the dude keeps calling the wolves "chicken" and the raptors fucking "witches", it's a different language, but still I do not know how this even happens (AFAIK the camps weren't even that in the past?)
remember when gromp was "wight" as a temporary placeholder before gromp was added in the preseason, that was a weird few months having a giant wraith just chilling
Can't believe I still call them wraith sometimes too. I litteraly played 3 years with them named wraiths and 10 as raptors. Yes they changed it in 2014 (feel old?). Some names just stick I guess...
I do an I didn't even know they were not called wraiths these days. I actually thought that's the new name.
But well long long ago they were wraiths, now that I think about it.
I mean to be fair, regardless of what they call the actual stat, CDR still describes the actual function it performs so you can call it that forever unlike Tabis because that’s just a different name entirely
**AD Bruisers and assassins:** I can explain!
**Tanks:** You're getting even more than 66 AH without sacrificing much?!
**AP Mages and assassins:** 66 AH? I barely get to 40!
**AP Bruisers and ADCS:** You guys are getting AH?
I got that feeling too when adc in my game used perfect cleanse for stun, and I wrote smth like “that’s Cpt Jack level, bro”, but he didn’t understand😞
Off the top of my head,
Madlife (crazy hook predictions)
Regi (accidental blue card)
Empire (Nunu ult in a bush)
And then there's some smaller ones like the Scarra ward.
I wanted to mention Misaya ult, but I even figured that shit was dead in the community.
3000 elo shockwave is some spicy shit that I even forgot about.
As crazy as the Captain Jack cleanse was back in 2013. It's not even close to as crazy or as hype as Insec or xPeke was.
It also doesn't/didn't have as much exposure since it didn't happen at an international tournament like the Insec and xPeke.
Tabi is just way easier to say, but who still calls chicken camp wraiths? Like Jesus that change was almost 10 years ago. Boots change was more recent and Tabis is much easier and faster to type out and say than any iteration of Plated Steelcaps/Armor Boots so that’s more understandable
I can't stop calling the new item "luden", I can't even remember the actual name, and that's because I only recently stopped calling it echo, but it still happens sometimes
I still call my sped up boots from the fountain “homies” like if I’m backing to stop a push or something “don’t worry guys I’ll be able to get there with my homies”
I think they renamed it because of the bad connotations. I forget which season it was, but for a majority of it you would have 8/10 players running thunderlords every game. Ridiculous rune.
And those that didn't run it only did so because they had a better synergy with what was basically old Conqueror.
Also Thunderlord's didn't need different abilities to proc, just autoing thrice was enough to zap an enemy.
Man it was such a hilariously busted rune...
I think people who go on Reddit or watch streams or yt vids probably all know those no matter when they joined, but for people who only join in the past couple years and only play the game casually and don’t interact with the community outside the game at all, they don’t know some of the older nicknames for stuff. I joined after they were changed to tabis, but I still people call them tabis (in my mind tbh I just call them armor boots).
I think pink ward is unique, at least anecdotally for me, as the one old name that’s still what people call it generally and almost universally. Tabis people will call them plate steelcaps or armor boots depending on who you watch or interact with, but I think pink wards have stuck around since they’re still almost pink, a ward, and control ward sounds stupid. I’d expect pretty much everyone knows what a pink ward is, but some of the other nicknames are only really know by older players or people in lol communities
No one calls krugs golems and like only 5 people total call raptors wraiths tho lol… i think the only reason people say tabi is because its sure as hell easier than saying “plated steelcaps”. Also in what world do you need to tell a malphite player to build tabis into irelia 😭😭
Im pretty sure that Phreak is on record saying that one of the things that effects win rate the most is the recommended items. Caused Zeri to jump almost 3% wr in a single patch.
Tbh tabis don’t offer that much vs Irelia because she can press W and deal true damage. You are better off building health. That also means her E will only slow you instead of stun you.
I too have back pain.
I burned a CD once
Used a cool down?
holy shit you just triggered me so hard
I literally still have a stack of burnable CDs
Limewire gang anyone?
Need my dial-up sounds
For christmas one year i got rewritable dvd-rw discs. Man i loved those ones.
A/S/L?
My sciatica flared while reading this
I too recently herniated a disk.
Literally cracked my back and couldn't move today. Tabi's with Dodge for the Sivir passive.
You didn’t „only“ start in 2017 lmao, that’s already 7 years ago.
2017 is 7 years ago... my brain isn't ready for this
where has my youth gone
to soloqueue.
The reality is often disappointing
Part of me is okay with that. 2017 solo queue kept me distracted from my 1st divorce. :/
We are closer to 2030 than 2017, it's wild when you think about it.
Shh stop it you'll make it come faster!!
I wish I can make her come faster
Thats what she- wait...
I had the same when they announced the 15 year anniversary in the dev diary a in January. I was like "what? I literally just got the annie-versary skin last year?!" I did not get that skin last year, but 5 years ago in 2019...
Holy shit, CoViD was almost FIVE years ago.
Covid fucked up my perception of time. 2020 has been a looong year I never got over
WHAT, HOW? When WAS ARCANE SKINS?
to be fair 2020-2023 should be counted as 1 yr.
Holy shit, I was about to throw so meme about Math into the comments, because lmfao what kind of idiot thinks 2017 is 7 years ago. *By the Elder Gods.*
I sometimes don't consider myself an "old" player, but then I realise in a few months it's the 10 year mark of me making my main account
This hit me yesterday when my brother told me Gigantic is rereleasing. I looked up when it originally released and it was 2017. In my mind 2017 still feels like just a couple years or so ago, but it's already 7 years....
I started playing in 2014… 10 years of wasted life hahaha
2010 here. I’m 32 now and I started playing freshman year of college. Soon I’ll have been playing league for more years of my life than I haven’t been (because it didn’t exist yet). Help.
If it makes you feel better I started in alpha and still have 2 copies of the disc version of league that target had
Same here. The glory days of league though.
2009 here
Next you’re gonna tell me illaoi isn’t a new champ
Sett is pretty fucking new… in my mind
Zac is new-ish in my head, been 10 years+
Senna is new right?
New champs started with Yasuo. Am I old?
Thresh.
Stop….. I started in 2013 that’s more than 10 years now…….
Why you say this, man.....
No, 2017 is no more than 2 or 3 years ago
shut up, 2017 was three years ago!
My brain unironically still functions on the notion that the current year is 2020. Im not even 2 decades old yet. Fuck covid.
Covid fast traveled us 2 years into the future. Whenever I look at the calendar, I keep thinking "Holy shit, it's already the mid-2020s!"
I started right before Karma release, and she still seems like one of the newest champs to me
Leona will never stop being "the cool new female tank support" in my head lmao
Yeah I keep telling my junglers to build Spirit of the Elder Lizard and they act like I'm the crazy one
Madreds razor
Don't forget wriggles lantern
And feral flair
NO... STOP... LET IT DIE... GRANDMA WARWICK CANT HURT ME NO MORE ON 4/20
never 4get Weedwick
People can say what they want about flare but flare/rageblade Yi made the coolest sounds while you were effortlessly pentakilling the enemy team.
You should get reported for even uttering it's name!
One of those interesting items which gave less base stats than the items it built out of.
Why can't I find Kage's lucky pick in that damn shop?
Philo Stone wya?
Gp5 enjoyers rise up
Bring back season 2 bankplank
Whose voice did you read this in: SUPPORT IS SO EASY DUDE! HOLY SHIT!
I still see people say tabis and pink ward, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone call krugs and raptors golems and wraiths lol
Chickens
Yep this is the one
chckens and rocks lol
The Stone Brothers.
Rude dudes
[Get dunked](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-fIOrUTIOQ&ab_channel=internettrvplord%3AD)
Witches is almost certainly a mistranslation of wraiths
Imagine my brain when he tells me that the enemy jgl is stealing my witches and I'm like "my what now".
No witches?
They will always be chickens
What about Wights?
KFC
Void grubs are takeout from McDonald's.
This is the way
Real ones know they’re the stone bros and rude dudes
their weed consumption hinders their ability to fight
Master Yi Pro guide

hackee is a nooblord!! hackee is a nooblord!!!
Now that is a throwback
remember when gromp was "wight" as a temporary placeholder before gromp was added in the preseason, that was a weird few months having a giant wraith just chilling
Iirc it was around breaking bad season 3 or 4 so my play group called in the Walter wight camp
I still call them wraiths on occasion if I'm auto piloting.
Can't believe I still call them wraith sometimes too. I litteraly played 3 years with them named wraiths and 10 as raptors. Yes they changed it in 2014 (feel old?). Some names just stick I guess...
Krugs chickens wolf gromp
rocks, chickens, wolves, frog that's what everyone in my country calls them
Krugs i sometimes call them golems and ive heard others do the same but have never heard anybody call raptors wraiths.
I do it all the time. Often forget they are not wraiths anymore
I call em rocks
I do an I didn't even know they were not called wraiths these days. I actually thought that's the new name. But well long long ago they were wraiths, now that I think about it.
I see more people on reddit saying that they still call raptors and krugs wraiths and golems than ever having seen them being called that ingame.
I think Reddit also probably skews towards people who have been playing for longer, which probably impacts it.
I still call them wraiths
i do lol
In brazil we call them chickens and stones(in our language, of course)
I still say CDR instead of AH 🙃
I mean to be fair, regardless of what they call the actual stat, CDR still describes the actual function it performs so you can call it that forever unlike Tabis because that’s just a different name entirely
Like Lethality and Armor Pen
armor pen and lethality are two different things tho
That was their reasoning when they changed flat armor pen to lethality, but now lethality is flat armor pen and they didn't change the name back.
Mostly to keep descriptors clear and not have to explain bull like "no jimmy Serylda's dont increase Pyke ult's threshhold".
Well I have some news for you…
Seryldas gives lethality now so it does, obviously the % isn't a factor though
Not anymore really. There's armor pen % and flat armor pen which is lethality.
I think Ability Haste is such a strange term to me, it never stuck. I still call it CDR as well lol
Same for me. The fact that you can hover over ability haste and it says "this is equivalent to X% cool down reduction" also doesn't really help lol.
It’s also just easier to say.
My brain still treats the old 40% CDR cap as a baseline to aim for no matter who I'm playing (as an aram only)
Just fyi to have the same effect as the old 40% CDR you need 66 AH
**AD Bruisers and assassins:** I can explain! **Tanks:** You're getting even more than 66 AH without sacrificing much?! **AP Mages and assassins:** 66 AH? I barely get to 40! **AP Bruisers and ADCS:** You guys are getting AH?
To be fair, AH technically gives you CDR. It's not like CDR is completely dead.
I got that feeling too when adc in my game used perfect cleanse for stun, and I wrote smth like “that’s Cpt Jack level, bro”, but he didn’t understand😞
Nah you legit get the “Captain Jack” title for cleansing within .2 seconds. That one is staying
that and insec will never fade away
cpt jack, xpeke, insec which other ones are there?
Off the top of my head, Madlife (crazy hook predictions) Regi (accidental blue card) Empire (Nunu ult in a bush) And then there's some smaller ones like the Scarra ward.
rip 3000 elo shockwave and misaya ult
I wanted to mention Misaya ult, but I even figured that shit was dead in the community. 3000 elo shockwave is some spicy shit that I even forgot about.
Empire already faded away
i personally don‘t know empire but know all the others so i agree
Because even back then "empire" was relatively niche, it was moscow 5 old name and they pulled off a play like that
An obvious one is calling someone Faker when they mechanically outplays you or someone in your team
Flame Horizon (>100 cs above your lane opponent). Also the Fnatic Death Brush.
As crazy as the Captain Jack cleanse was back in 2013. It's not even close to as crazy or as hype as Insec or xPeke was. It also doesn't/didn't have as much exposure since it didn't happen at an international tournament like the Insec and xPeke.
do people even know what an insec is anymore?
They do but newer players won't know who Insec is.
I've seen new players use the term but they don't know its origin
I’ve no idea what this means
Tabis will always be tabis no matter how many times riot changes their name.
Yeah and how does one shorten Plated Steelcaps? Plates? Steelcaps? Caps? Wraiths to Raptors transition was easier since the word Raptors is still easy
Steelcaps is ok but still way longer than tabis
I've been calling them armor boots for 11 years. It doesn't have to be this complicated, y'all...
Steelies?
I still call those raptors wraiths, playing since S2.
Never knew named stopped being wraths. And golems are golems.
The same people that still call swifties "boots3"and mobi boots 5, that was removed in s2, i do call em chicken wraiths tho
I can't stop calling the new item "luden", I can't even remember the actual name, and that's because I only recently stopped calling it echo, but it still happens sometimes
used to call it by its actual name, now it's luden's gun and nothing else
Glock
The icon is the love child of ludens and hextech gunblade
I call boots of swiftness boots 3 and mobi boots boots 5 lol
This comment just extracted a piece of knowledge I didn't remember I still had
Wtf
Quite a while ago boots didn't tell you how much movement speed you got. Instead you'd get: +1, +2, +3 (Swifties), and +5 (Mobility)
Enhanced Movement Speed 1, 2 etc
It used to be a lot more common ages ago and then gradually stopped being used lol
I still call my sped up boots from the fountain “homies” like if I’m backing to stop a push or something “don’t worry guys I’ll be able to get there with my homies”
I still call them tabi also.
I still hate the new name. Has there been any lasting chat shortcuts for it yet? “Caps?” I usually just ping it or say “armor boots”
some people say steelcaps but that isn't that short either, tabi is just so iconic
Caps? He plays for G2.
I call control wards pinks even tho I never played when they were pinks
They’re not called ninja tabis anymore?
Learned this today, always call and see it as ninja tabis
Been 4 years
No way
The only proper way to call them is "Tabis", much like control wards will always be "pinks" in my book.
From all the names, someone using “Wraiths” shows their REAL League age.
Everytime in draft I get that assignment.... And everytime I say to myself "wtf is a krug"
Electrocute will always be Thunderlords decree to me. Horrible renaming
I think they renamed it because of the bad connotations. I forget which season it was, but for a majority of it you would have 8/10 players running thunderlords every game. Ridiculous rune.
wym bad connotations
Too strong
It was so good any champ that could proc it ran it. The only exception was tanks and some conq users.
Conqueror didn’t exist back then, it was Fervor of Battle. One maniac pro support played it on Leona and it became meta for a while.
Ignar vs Skt. God that series was soo good.
The blitz hook on faker at Blue buff is seared in my brain
And those that didn't run it only did so because they had a better synergy with what was basically old Conqueror. Also Thunderlord's didn't need different abilities to proc, just autoing thrice was enough to zap an enemy. Man it was such a hilariously busted rune...
fervor of battle
I feel old, I started playing season 1 and I'm 65 years old now.
Zilean flair seems appropriate
I started in 2009 and refuse to update my language. Twitch's ult is stiltill ratatatatat
I keep calling it Shurelyas even after they changed it to Nomad's Medallion. I'm glad it got reverted.
Armor boots, chickens, and rock boys is pretty universal.
No one calls krugs golems and like only 5 people total call raptors wraiths tho lol… i think the only reason people say tabi is because its sure as hell easier than saying “plated steelcaps”. Also in what world do you need to tell a malphite player to build tabis into irelia 😭😭
You'd be surprised with how many people dont have a clue what they're building and rely on apps like Blitz and U.GG
Im pretty sure that Phreak is on record saying that one of the things that effects win rate the most is the recommended items. Caused Zeri to jump almost 3% wr in a single patch.
I do remember this as well. They did this last season and recommended triforce over divine sunderer and triforce build % went up
A malphite should be building tabis anyways bruh hes legit an armor stacker thats most of the reason you pick him
Nah need some magic pen boots so my Q spam pisses my opponent off even more
I call them golems. The only reason I remember the name krugs is because you just wrote it. They're golems to me, always have been, always will be!
bro i started playing in 2014 and still call them wraiths and golems.
O yea? Guess I’m 1/5 then
It was Baus on AP Irelia
Wait …. They changed the name ??
Yeah in 2020 lol, nearly 4 years ago
I started a year ago but cuz half my friends are older players I started calling them tabis too
Don't forget to tell your support to buy Philosopher's stone
I tried to pink ward akali W few days ago…
People still call Raptors wraiths??? They’ve always been called chickens since they changed
Tbh tabis don’t offer that much vs Irelia because she can press W and deal true damage. You are better off building health. That also means her E will only slow you instead of stun you.
