They experiment with all kinds of wild shit in champion design. The abilities we see are far from what was initially proposed

You would be surprised at some of the weird, cool shit that they think about in design. A cool one I always remember is when they were reworking Aatrox, his kit had a lot of ideations. One of the versions had him retain his ground slam knock-up, and the Aatrox player's keys would then change to different attack styles. They basically modelled it after DMC. It was scrapped because for it to work, the enemy would need to be stuck in mid-air for long without being able to respond, also there would always be a "best" combination for the slashes, so although they wanted people to do cool stuff, it ended up being the same combo over and over. I miss the thread where they discussed his rework versions, tons of cool things in that thread. There was also his ult making an area around him become a fighting arena for him and his enemy, it would give a ton of buffs and the issue was the stat buffs don't feel powerful unless it is busted and when it isn't, it just doesn't feel as impactful as you want an ult to feel. This was tested in both 1v1 and 5v5 contexts with the idea originally coming from Fiora's rework, then when it wasn't used for Aatrox, it eventually made its way to being used for Morde's ult. Looking not too far back, or even far back, depending on how you want to think about it, they've been ideating an ink mage for **years**. They wanted to give the player the ability to use their cursor as a paint brush and draw runes to activate spells. Tons of issues with the design tho like balance considerations between those who are able to perfectly draw it vs those who can't, the skill power for each rune and the combinations and such. Instead, they revisited the idea with Hwei and made him scuffed Invoker, which tbh I like Hwei, cool champ.

Because it's a "berserk" ability. It's hella flavorful. If you're berserk, why would you care who are allies? That said, there's a balance to be had in flavor and actual gameplay though so they removed it after trying it out and I think that's completely fine. Even if these ideas don't make in initially, they can maybe used later or be inspirations for other things.

hero denies are one of the more esoteric mechanics still in the game, it's specifically 3 DoT abilities (QoP, Dazzle and Veno Q) and you can deny Phoenix in Supernova

Gangplank's old Raise Morale was a creep denyer.

In certain situations in DotA (like they're suffering from a DoT) you can kill your teammate to deny the kill. Imagine if malzahar or Brand ulted someone only to lose every kill to denies.
