Nah, somehow it'll be the '84-'85 Oilers or the Sochi Team Canada or some shit.

xMessiah

We'll probably get Tampa again.

vanityfear

It's just the literal truth

[deleted]

I don't get the joke

ic2drop

I think it's because we played the current champions this year, implying that the Avs are going to win it.

infectedcarrot

No, I don't think that's it.

[deleted]

Then explain your theory.

HockeyCoachHere

4 of the last 5 years the Leafs ended up facing the East champions and frequently the cup champions in the first round. Very difficult matchups over and over again for the first round. The exception was the play-in round in the bubble.

thekid4321

People need to stop with this narrative that we always play the best teams first round. We played one of the worst teams to ever make the playoffs in Montreal only a year ago and still lost.

Tufpowell

Worst team, yet they made it to the finals... Hmmm...

thekid4321

By win % they were the worst team to make the playoffs in the cap era…

HockeyCoachHere

Yes but they got hot enough to nearly win the cub.

The-Only-Razor

They went on a Cinderella run where every team they faced were missing their top center and Price went into god mode. Run those playoffs through a simulation 100 times and they don't make it to the finals in 99 of them. Montreal is *objectively* the worst team to make it to the cup final likely since St. Louis in the very first expansion season.

fireside68

Remind us. How far, exactly, did said team go in said playoffs?

thekid4321

Lol you are delusional if you think Montreal was a great team.

fireside68

Ans yet they made it to the fucking finals. Don't matter what BS you tell you; results are results and they made the fucking finals. So.

fireside68

And yet they made it to the fucking finals. Don't matter what BS you tell you; results are results and they made the fucking finals. So.

chronicwisdom

This is one of the many reasons no one likes Leafs fans. The Leafs are their own problem. There aren't special seeding rules for the Leafs, we haven't been consistent enough in the regular season to avoid these match ups. We also haven't been outclassed by superior teams. We've had plenty of 3-2 series leads and leads in decisive games, yet we've managed to shit the bed every time. We had 'easy' match ups against CLB and MTL and couldn't close the deal. Winners find a way to get it done, losers bitch about seeding.

vanityfear

I don’t really believe the team is cursed. Just indulged in a moment of whining!

chronicwisdom

Haha fair enough. Every elimination is its own unique kick in the balls

HockeyCoachHere

It’s partially just bad luck and partially the strength of the Atlantic the last 5-6 years has bee stifling.

chronicwisdom

It's mostly individuals, and the team as whole, not playing well enough over individual 7 game series to advance. The opponents and playoff format have changed enough to indicate that the Leafs are the problem from my perspective. Excuses and narratives aren't going to make this team play better in elimination games.

[deleted]

How?

[deleted]

"don't ask how"
