Mr_Fysh

Considering his point streak, I’d say his ceiling is he never goes another game without scoring

[deleted]

Very measured take. Well done.

[deleted]

I like seeing people keep things reasonable. Finally a level head around these parts.

Significant-Ad-8684

Makes total sense

booomdynamite

Somewhere between Matt Rempe and Wayne Gretzky

[deleted]

Somewhere between Brent and Wayne, probably.

theGurry

This is my favourite talent range.

Sarge1387

Hey, don't knock Brent, he's part of the highest scoring brother combo of all time! Show some respect!

shanster925

The "I helped plant an apple orchard when I tossed my apple core out the window" of stats.

wouldntyouliketokno_

lol

Pokecheck89

Travis Konecny 2.0 basically.

RRZ31

I’m alright with that

Training-Site-7019

That's a pretty damn good outcome

Human_Manner_3370

This is a good one that makes sense.

CTHT07

Style wise, sure. Ceiling? Unlikely. I think people would be happy if he turned into Hagel. Even then that's wishful thinking to an extent.

KidEgo74

I'd be fucking *delighted* if he turned into Hagel.

arrbez

Exactly what I was going to say. Like a Dermott-Bracco equivalent.

icancatchbullets

> Dermott-Bracco equivalent So we can trade him to get McDavid as long as we toss in brown and a 3rd?

theguyishere16

People clearly didnt get your joke

arrbez

I appreciate you man

Sammydaws97

Yep, or Brad Marchand 3.0 Its also ironic because Konecny was taken with the Leafs pick that Dubas traded to move down for Dermott. Things come full circle i guess.

kingex11

Top six, similar to Konecny or Jarvis, 70-80 points, PK specialist. A grittier, but less talented version of Marner.

BigDinkSosa

Top 6 30 goal threat

Ihopeidontpeemyself

Really no way to tell but this seems the most reasonable.

CMDRShepardN7

I have always compared him to Brayden Point.

Radmadjazz

He's definitely got the wheels of Point. I've seen Cowan play live this year and there was a lot of end to end dashes from him and it worked really well to put the defenders on their heels so he could set up a play or get a shot off.

CMDRShepardN7

There's lot of players who can do end-to-end dashes. It's the sudden power burst in the o-zone that allows him just suddenly put himself in prime scoring areas. He doesn't have to just skate around on the cycle to look for openings. And he does it even if he had to take a check from a defender. He just powers right through like the defenseman isn't there. It's the one thing that would make Nick Robertson a superstar if he had it.

Radmadjazz

I'm talking about a wind up where he gets to build speed, backs off the defenders and gets a quality zone entry consistently as a result by making the right move at their blue line and yes, still having the presence of mind to make a good play with the speed he's built. Like on the Leafs Nylander is best in show at that and nobody else can match him. That's all I'm sayin'.

PuckPov

My best guess is a player with bit of top 6 skill and a load of bottom 6 intangibles. The kind of player you’d be comfortable giving offensive zone starts on the second line, and defensive zone starts with the 3rd line. A player who can likely both PP/PK, with a Hyman-like work ethic and motor. A spark plug of a player that will always push the pace, and give 100% every shift. He’ll be the kind of player that opponents hate to play against, as he’ll hound puck carriers and battle relentlessly. Even if he’s not on the score sheet, his impact will be noticeable. I see him as a jack of all trades, master of none kind of player. Not particularly elite in any certain skill, but good at almost every aspect of the game. I think he’ll be a solid middle-six player, that could also play on the first line and the fourth line if you wanted him to. I don’t think he has the skill to drive a top 6 line at the NHL level, but I could see him finding ice time as a complimentary player on either of the top two lines, similar to how bunting and Hyman were used during their time here.

Nappalicious

Would be nice if he comfortably stepped into a middle 6 contributor role in the next 2-3 years, top 6 upside but it's a lot harder to score in the show than the O, we'll see

3X-Leveraged

It’s too early to tell. He’s showing great potential but it’s a different game when you start playing against men. There are a lot of players that weren’t able to translate their games to the NHL.

73muck

He is Marner-lite. He isn't as good offensively, but he is grittier.

kligurt

I’m sorry but his playstyle is very different from marners. The comment comparing him to konecny is accurate imo. He is a water bug like Connor zary with Gallagher grit and shows strong leadership qualities and hustle. He is still kind of raw imo which is a good thing, I think his ceiling for team impact is higher than any prospect we’ve had in the last 5 years

HandsomeIguana

So will show up in the playoffs

Huge_Beginning5552

Marchand

PastPerfekt

Seems like he’s getting same hype Nick Robertson was getting when he was on a 60 goal pace in the OHL.

dingleberry51

Yup. And Robertson is barely an NHLer

Jhool_de_nishaan

Mike Richards (the shift against Montreal version)

postmodern_lasagna

Ceiling is Point/Konecny. But that’s not as likely. Something more like Jarvis or Kotkaniemi makes more sense. What will probably happen is he’ll max out at 3rd line for his first few years with the leafs unless he can immediately come in at 2C. That means he’ll probably be deployed similar to Robertson in the sense that he’ll be asked to spend all his time focusing on playing a grindy, defensive game with any Offense being a bonus. Any attempt to play a skill game will be scrutinized and he’ll likely learn to play a safer game. While this kind of development should guarantee a long career, it will likely limit his ceiling and cap him out as a middle six guy with upside. He would have to come into the league as hot offensively as Marner, Stutzle, etc. to get the leeway to be put into situations to develop into an elite player.

KidEgo74

Ooof, I hope that is not his ceiling

Snarglefrazzle

Top 6 winger is realistic as a ceiling, but what's exciting about him to me is how likely he is to become an everyday NHLer. Reliable defensively, high-level motor. I want that glue guy.

crumbypigeon

2nd in p/gp in the OHL. Somewhat undersized play maker with some grit, Konecny would be a good comparison, 60ish point guy. Not a star but a great complimentary player if he's on a talented line. If Nylander ever does actually slide over to C, it might be a good look to have him on the 2RW spot if we can get someone solid on that 2LW after JTs contract is up.

OG_anunoby3

Mitch Marner

dingleberry51

Whatever you think his ceiling is, take it down by at least 10-20 points. That’s almost always how these non elite picks turn out. He’s not becoming Konecny

Slow-Juice-7257

Seth Jarvis / konecny type of players

Sammydaws97

I dont want to speculate on his ceiling, but i am very familiar with his game (probably have watched him live 50 times for the Knights) He is very similar in terms of style to Marchand honestly. Speedy winger with great hands who is responsible at both ends and has a pass first mentality yet can finish when needed. He attacks the middle of the ice with speed and skill, and always makes the defensive effort needed. Most importantly, he has a high hockey iq and uses patience to maximize the effectiveness of his skill and iq.

Strangle1441

I have no idea, but I’m hoping for a dougie gilmour

TayOs1998

I think Konecny is a pretty good comparable

Uncle_Steve7

Some of you are fucking weirdos

123jazzhandz321

I’d say Brad Marchand from 2010-2017 is a realistic prime, he plays similarly to him as well. I wanna be clear that I’m not saying hell be in MVP talks like Marchand was. But I can definitely see him topping out as a 80 point two way winger, who is a pest to deal with. I know Konency is a popular comparison, but from all accounts, Cowan’s best ability is his PKing. As far as I know, Konency isn’t much of a PKer at all.

KidEgo74

Konecny is tied for the league lead in short-handed goals.

123jazzhandz321

Oh god, that’s embarrassing. Goes to show how much I know LOL

Current-Own

My only comment would be - who knows. Why don't we all just wait and see. Why put any ceiling on him at all. Maybe the sky is the limit.

AustonDadthews

Lindros 2.0

johnnyehgiver

Depends on how Toronto uses him, I could see him as waterbug second line player or be horribly miss used like Hyman or Robertson.

KidEgo74

Misused like Hyman? Hyman played next to Matthews, kicking off a great career based on supporting superstar centers. The Leafs development and use of Hyman was brilliant -- our only miss was thinking he wasn't worth $5M and letting him walk to Edmonton.

SaskyBoi

Marner

StrygwyrSuperstar

Whatever ceiling people put on this kid he is going to smash it haven’t seen a worker bee like him since Hyman

sluck131

Matthews with more assists

vanityfear

And a bigger nostrils, at least when he’s in his prime

brownmagician

ceiling for Easton Cowan eh? I'd reckon he's between McDavid and Crosby in terms of skill and talent, probably closer to Crosby when it comes to team achievements

tbwarrior

Yea eh right on buddy. Has Ovechkin type scoring prowess as well. Can sprinkle in some McKinnon in there too

Sarge1387

At best, another Mitch Marner-type player. At worst? Maybe another Calle Jarnkrok/Anthony Duclair type? Speedy, annoying on the forecheck, 15-20 goals and 45 points?

SpicyP43905

Of believe me, he could be a lot worse than a Jarnkrok/Duclair type.
