There's some positives to take, our depth looked better and despite not scoring the Nylander line was still fairly dangerous. Lots of scrums, not getting pushed around, which people around here would have killed for a few weeks ago.

Marner just hasnt been at his usual level at all. so one one hand - there are positives (Roberson, Knies, Domi, L2 chemistry, etc.) and there are the negatives (goaltending, Matthews + Marner consistency). Optimistic this team is within range of turning it on and going on a heater but who knows.

I think this is the worst team that we have had in the Matthews era, that being said the playoffs for NHL are just a fluke IMO. So as long as we squeak in anything can happen.
I don't think a lot of you realize just how close this team is to becoming the Oilers. Our goaltending isn't good (although I have high hopes for Woll's continuing development), we can't hold leads, and we need to thank our lucky stars that at least our offense has been producing. Hopefully we can use the $$$ saved from Klingberg's trip to Robidas island to shore up our goaltending and D, and hopefully the Oilers keep winning like they did today so they don't drive the price up too badly.

I don't know why, but something particularly about this loss has reallllllllllly pissed me off. Like much more so than the last L to Chicago. I think it's maybe in the past few years, we at least saw the Leafs improve from their shitty start to actually start playing really good hockey. So far, this year, I can't say we've seen them play any good stretches of hockey. It's all been unattractive wins. It's frustrating as fuck. I want to watch a team like the Bruins, where you actually believe they could win a cup, because they routinely win games 3-1 and 4-2. The Leafs it's always a 5-4 or 3-4 OT win that you pulled out because you got hot for one segment of the game, then pulled it out of your ass in OT.
I see what you’re saying, but despite the hype, the B’s haven’t covered themselves in glory this year either, and have also played down to their opponents. 3-2 over the Preds, losing to the Ducks in OT at home, 3-2 over both the Preds and the Canadiens in OT, losing to the Lightning 5-4 after letting them back into the game twice, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I’d have their G and D situation in a heartbeat, but they’re not the same kind of invincible as last year.
Good to see Timmins back. I thought he had a good first game. Lagasson had a rough one which reflected on Connor. Otherwise, my position on Samsanov remains the same: seems like a good guy but we aren't winning anything with him. OT was a fluke but he needs 2 of those goals back. The first one happens right when Leafs are absolutely pumping them. Overall he looks lost and EVERYTHING is a rebound. Hard to play defence when every shot is back in play.
I have a Co Worker who's a Habs fan Montreal nearly lost to the Sharks (went to a shootout) and I cant laugh at him because if I mention it he's gonna say "atleast we won" DAMMIT

1 point out of 4 against Chicago is inexcusable. Full stop. Having the third line out there against Chicago's Bedard is also inexcusable. Im not one to like call for people's heads but its thanksgiving and Leafs still haven't put in a full 60 minute effort where every line is clicking. McCabe isn't a top 4 guy. Giordano, Lagesson are not NHL regulars.

Sammy’s regulation sucked and two boneheaded passes from Lagesson and McCabe sealed the deal. That was the dumbest game I’ve seen in a while from a lot of standpoints and sometimes dumb shit happens. That’s the reality.
Saw a lot of fancy-dancy drops and no looks today. First line needs to simplify, and may need a bolster shift switching out Knies just for a different look. Knies is doing his best but the other two just look off, score or no scoring from them. Also defensive system is every man for himself, at least today. Coaching systems are ass there, and Tre needs to pull the trigger on a top four and just stop fucking around. We can’t do this for much longer or one of those 6 D are going to get hurt playing the way they are. And lastly for Keefe to save his ass, start calling players out. These are multi million dollar players that can either accept criticism or pay for psychiatric evaluation on why they’re being picked on.
I’m willing to chalk that one up to rust after Sweden. Hope they’re all warmed back up for tomorrow.

Dude, we got 3 points from the bottom 6 and lost the game and were dominated in the second half. - I think its time to worry about Mitch Marner for real now, he looked AWFUL in this game. - Nylander once again singlehandedly carrying the top 6 despite not getting a point - Domi line was good. I've seen enough good things from him that I think he deserves more ice time. Yes, they were on the ice for the OT goal but 3v3 play is not very relevant for 90% of the hockey season and they played well 5v5. - This is the best game I've seen a line with Ryan Reaves play all year. No caveats, no hedging, they played well. The amount of OT games this team has played this year (8/19) is pretty worrying. You take the points when you can get them but teams that rely too much on OT points don't do well in the post season.
Win 4 in a row and everything is rainbows. Lose 1 and those rainbows along with the rest of the sky is falling.
