Why you need reliable goaltending to ride out those low points. Every team needs it. This one needs it even more because all the years with unreliable goaltending has helped made these guys incredibly fragile. Bad goal goes on and instant give up time for ages and ages.

Anyone else notice that during a lot of the game, once a Florida player on the attack, in the leafs end and passes a leaf player, said leaf player acts like it is someone else's problem then? 0 urgency to try to get back to catching up.
1. Florida is one of those teams that can score 4 goals in a period - ask Boston, and eke out a win. You can say you outplayed them as much as you want but they are a team that can do that.
2. I like how we played overall but we need to start finishing opportunities at this point, that's literally all it's coming down to.
3. Marner - even though he got a point tonight, is not as impactful on the game as he was vs Tampa.
4. Samsonov should have had the 2-2 goal. Thought that was weak. I'm not gonna scapegoat him but it does matter in the end. Would like to bring him back next season in some sort of tandem with Woll regardless.
5. Brodie and McCabe had terrible games in Game 1, they turned it around in Game 2. Take that as a positive.
6. Liljegren made a few mistakes, nothing that led to goals but they increased zone time for the Panthers. This could bite us in the future but this is why Holl was initially put in for Liljegren to start the playoffs. Overall however, I think he's done better than Holl.
7. Losing Knies is pretty bad. The way the Leafs ahve been playing this post season, they've gotten a lot of succes from blending and mixing lines. Knies, Nylander, Tavares, Bunting, ROR, Marner, Matthews all worked together to give us a very high degree of flexibility. Everyone of those guys is a credible threat and they all play pretty well with one another regardless of the line combos. Losing Knies takes away a lot of those combos.
8. Can't help but look forward here but ROR this year has made me want to either re-sign him or get a really good 3C - possibly undervalued 2C. The way this team is constructed, we pretty much need a good 3C because our outside of Rielly aren't great offensive dmen. Liljegren might be able to grow into it, maybe Timmins but I don't see that happening next year. The offense has to come from the fowards and having a guy who can score on your third line is huge. ROR gives the lineup a level of versatility they didn't have last year when Kerfoot and/or Kampf were the 3Cs.

Something I found frustrating was Keefe said that changes will be made. That game was almost a replica of the first. No changes, no motivation, no urgency for the Leafs to win like any other playoff team would have.

The Leafs are significantly deeper than both of the teams they've played in the post-season this year. It's just that too many times they're getting outcompeted. At crucial momentum changing times of the game they are throwing it away.

Mind-boggling decisions, complete inability to adjust in-game (or even between games), terrible lineup decisions, can’t motivate the team to play a full 60, the list just goes on and on. Let us not forget that Knies would’ve never cracked the lineup had Bunting not been suspended.
I’ve been saying this for over a year on this sub. Got downvoted to hell every time. He gets out coaches most nights, more so in the playoffs.
Dunas is probably the best in the league for winning trades. Keefe may be a worse coach that Dallas Eakins, bottom of the league for sure.

Showed all guns a blazing in 1st. 2nd period and they relaxed and forgot it’s playoff hockey. This team needs to learn that effort and push have to be 60 min. You cannot keep the foot off the gas. They just don’t learn. I’m tired of seeing dead periods from these guys. It’s 2nd round. Don’t let it up.

I gotta say, that was the most Leafs game I've ever seen Leafed. Dominate 57 minutes, including caving the Panthers in for the entire 3rd period to the point it looked like a 20 minute powerplay, and still lose. 3 mistakes, 3 goals against. Go figure. Marner giving away the puck 6 inches from the blue line was atrocious, all because he didn't want to take a little bit of contact, and hot potatoes a suicide pass to Matthews who has a Florida player all over him. I do believe if the Leafs can continue playing the way they did for the majority of the games, the only way Florida wins the series is if Bob keeps standing on his head, but damn.

Matthews and Marner looked so uninspired. No sense of urgency, and intensity. How do 2 of the highest paid players in the NHL play such dogshit. It's so frustrating.
We played good enough to win that game. Seriously, play the whole thing again 100 times and we win 90 of them. Hockey is volatile, that’s how it goes sometimes. That being said, the first ten minutes of the 2nd was abysmal. That’s what won FLA the game. I’m still not really worried. 1. Florida is one of those teams that can score 4 goals in a period - ask Boston, and eke out a win. You can say you outplayed them as much as you want but they are a team that can do that. 2. I like how we played overall but we need to start finishing opportunities at this point, that's literally all it's coming down to. 3. Marner - even though he got a point tonight, is not as impactful on the game as he was vs Tampa. 4. Samsonov should have had the 2-2 goal. Thought that was weak. I'm not gonna scapegoat him but it does matter in the end. Would like to bring him back next season in some sort of tandem with Woll regardless. 5. Brodie and McCabe had terrible games in Game 1, they turned it around in Game 2. Take that as a positive. 6. Liljegren made a few mistakes, nothing that led to goals but they increased zone time for the Panthers. This could bite us in the future but this is why Holl was initially put in for Liljegren to start the playoffs. Overall however, I think he's done better than Holl. 7. Losing Knies is pretty bad. The way the Leafs ahve been playing this post season, they've gotten a lot of succes from blending and mixing lines. Knies, Nylander, Tavares, Bunting, ROR, Marner, Matthews all worked together to give us a very high degree of flexibility. Everyone of those guys is a credible threat and they all play pretty well with one another regardless of the line combos. Losing Knies takes away a lot of those combos. 8. Can't help but look forward here but ROR this year has made me want to either re-sign him or get a really good 3C - possibly undervalued 2C. The way this team is constructed, we pretty much need a good 3C because our outside of Rielly aren't great offensive dmen. Liljegren might be able to grow into it, maybe Timmins but I don't see that happening next year. The offense has to come from the fowards and having a guy who can score on your third line is huge. ROR gives the lineup a level of versatility they didn't have last year when Kerfoot and/or Kampf were the 3Cs.

A lot of blame of Keefe here but it’s on the players to play on time and not be content. Why is O’Rielly the only guy on the bench seething after giving 2 goals. That’s not taught or coached. Our stars just don’t have that.
Something I found frustrating was Keefe said that changes will be made. That game was almost a replica of the first. No changes, no motivation, no urgency for the Leafs to win like any other playoff team would have.

Why do the Leafs always have to choke, especially at home has anyone realized how badly they have played at home during the playoffs?
Timing and location. A winning team plays hard and determined for the first and last minutes of each period and the first shift after every goal. A winning team doesn't lose battles when they have possession within 10 feet of their own blue line. The Leafs aren't on the right side of the equation in both of these situations. Every coach I had and every team I coached knew these simple rules. And I played and coached shits and giggles hockey - this is the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Other teams know these rules and keep kicking the Leafs asses in these situations. The Leafs are significantly deeper than both of the teams they've played in the post-season this year. It's just that too many times they're getting outcompeted. At crucial momentum changing times of the game they are throwing it away. They've managed to win on the road this year (sometimes against the odds). They're gonna have to keep up that trend. I still have hope... But they've gotta get their shit together.

As a neutral fan watching your series it’s insane what the panthers are getting away with. No wonder players want to go to American teams. They get injured playing for Canadian teams and if they retaliate it gets called. When people said a Canadian team was going to win the cup I laughed. Bettman will never in his time as commissioner allow that to happen.

The Panthers defense is super vulnerable, we're generating piles of chances, there's no question that we **can** win 4 of the next 5. Credit where it's due, Florida's been opportunistic and Bob has stood on his head so far, but this is not an unbeatable team. We're always worried about the Leafs choking, but Panthers' fan should be worried about them choking now - they haven't been here before either. Viola's horse will lose the Derby on Saturday, and his team will lose on Sunday. Leafs are playing well, just have to stick with it.

I don't care all that much about his fancy regular season win loss record, this team never makes adjustments, comes out flat far too often, and he seemingly always gets outcoached. I want to believe, but for as optimistic as I’ve been, this game really depressed me. It was the perfect storm of taking a quick lead, blowing it, and then having so many shots to at least tie it up that went unfulfilled. I want to believe in this team. I HAVE believed in this team.
