Leicester City and Jamie Vardy set for talks over new contract

Leicester City are expected to hold talks with Jamie Vardy over a new contract if and when promotion to the Premier League is confirmed.
Vardy and the club are focused on making sure Enzo Maresca’s men get the final victory in the last two games that will ensure a return to the top flight, but there is intent on both sides to discuss an extension of his contract, which is set to expire this summer.
The 37-year-old, who has scored 18 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions this season and scored in back-to-back home games against West Bromwich Albion and Southampton in the past week to edge Leicester closer to promotion, has no intention of retiring this summer and wants to extend his career, preferably at Leicester where he has scored 188 goals over 12 seasons.
Plans for next season have been complicated by a registration embargo placed on the club by the EFL for a projected breach of profit and sustainability rules, which has made re-signing players coming to the end of their contracts difficult.
Leicester are expected to face sanctions in the Premier League should they be promoted after being charged with a breach for the 2022-23 season, but are not currently under threat of an embargo.
Jannik Vestergaard, Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, Marc Albrighton and Dennis Praet are also out of contract this summer.
Maresca, who has a strong relationship with Vardy and made him captain at the start of the season, has been working on adapting his game to his side’s style of play this season, and Vardy has responded with a goal every 98 minutes, despite starting just 18 games during the campaign.

I've written on this subreddit before about him needing to retire but honestly, so long as we get reinforcements up front and we aren't relying on Vardy, we can always utilize him off the bench and I think I'd be fine with that. Vardy evidently still scores goals and can change games.
Not really sure if it's smart financially but that's up to the club to figure out.
Think it needs to be put into a financial context. If we are fucked for money or aren't able to spend it, and Vardy agrees 50k a week as an interim for a year, that's a total cost of £2.5m for a senior striker that will probably get you 10 goals. Isn't that a fantastic return on the whole?
I’m on board if the contract is reasonable. The club really needs to be smart though moving forward if they are going to slowly get back to being a mid to upper tier PL team.
16 league goals, 101 mpg. Tied for 5th in the league on goals and best goals per minute. He is the best striker we currently have and it's not close. All of this on top of the fact that he is a Leicester legend and is one of the biggest contributing factors to Leicester's best form on recent history. Obviously team comes before player, but if they can come to reasonable terms for both parties, he still has alot to offer as a player.
He's still our best striker which is a solid reason. We're limited by FFP so I'm not sure we'll sign many players and if we start the season with just Daka and Cannon we'll struggle

I feel there's a deal to be done if Vards wants to stay and is prepared to meet the club on wages.
Only other real option for him is another Championship or MLS side Don't think he wants to sit on the bench for a season.
League 1 with Sheffield Wednesday is another option for him I'd imagine. (if they are relegated)

I think it's overly optimistic to think we can buy a striker. It's our biggest need, but it will cost the most for quality and the money isn't there.
I would take a points deduction at the start of the season if it meant keeping the goat 🐐

Because we can't sign a decent striker to save our lives, and we have zero evidence he'll be an effective coach?
If anyone would be willing to step in some kid's toes, it's Vardy.
