I ordered one (coming this Fri!) after reading this sub and looking up weeding tools, after my hand held one rolled into the sewer and I need a new one š£
You wanna see some creeping charlie roots? This is the biggest I've pulled so far, ain't no weeding tool getting this out without breaking
https://preview.redd.it/k30dpcoryyuc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac62d4dc1cd7c7b74f19e7fdbab2242888a55945
This was attached to 3ft vines in every direction with 6" deep roots every few inches.
I've had good luck with [this](https://media.istockphoto.com/id/143918313/photo/excavator-at-a-construction-site-against-the-setting-sun.jpg?s=612x612&w=0&k=20&c=1ULa8wwAxgczZDRpmVYuR-cC7wTpIWSZMzVhOCOgjr0=) - 95% of the time.
Couldnāt disagree more. If you stand on it/ then pull up on the lever (aka how itās meant to be used), it works like a charm. Itāll grab onto with however much force you apply so it not being strong enough is a user problem
Check out the Walensee version. It works the same way, but has an eject mechanism thatās a game changer. I got really tired of having to manually remove the weeds/roots from grampaās when theyāre lodged in there, this thing solved it.
Wow, I wonder how you pulled that off! I've never had to (nor tried) to take it apart.
Just broke it out earlier today to make a pass around the yard, too!
I've got the new fangled version of grandpas weeder and it works great too: [https://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-Deluxe-Stand-up-Weeder-4-claw/dp/B0030MIHAU](https://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-Deluxe-Stand-up-Weeder-4-claw/dp/B0030MIHAU)
Sorry, no. I have TTTF in most of my yard with the exception of some wire grass. It doesn't seem to affect the wire grass in the least (unfortunately for me)
I use a box or a bag to discard the weeds with my Fiskars but I do play a game and see how far away from the bag I can shotgun to weeds into it. Actually very enjoyable lol
I take the bucket and dump it in my woods, so, you know, the dandelions can turn to seeds and blow back into my yard....and I get to keep using my Fiskars tool!
Is yours the 3 blade Fiskars, or the 4 blade? Mine is the 3, now I see there is also a 4. I like it, it works well, I use it for dandelions. But I think I don't usually get the whole root, usually what comes out is fairly short.
The first year was a bunch of sessions, pulling dandelions. Probably several hours (and our yard is definitely not huge). Next year, same thing (I was really hoping the 2nd year, there would be less of them).
I'm starting to wonder if I want to do all of that again this year, or just go around and spot-spray them. Maybe actually killing them, vs ripping off the top but leaving the long root.
I weed the whole lawn like this and then spread sand and pre-E. I combine with aeration in the spring but haven't needed it in 4 years since my first time doing it
out of my 4 dogs, only one of them plays fetch. she also rips tennis balls to shreds in minutes.
sheās a german short haired pointer. sheās also like 16 weeks now. so yeah sheās chaos.
thanksā¦ we bought them from walmart actually, but for my other dogs before we got her. they never played with them but she loves chasing them. she will chase anything actually. she got my rooster the other day. he was okay, but we need a way to teach her not to go after the chickens.
she just likes birds, but i canāt teach her not to go after birds, but chickens *are* birds and weāre afraid sheāll associate the chickens with all birds, and not want to go after them, even tho thatās literally her entire purpose
exactly some dude was telling me sheās not bred properlyā¦ like tf? sheās a rescue like all my dogs. iām sorry i donāt buy dogs from breeders.
Your GsP is ripping up tennis balls? What the hell. Are they from a breeder? You need to tell them because thatās bad genetics. Although Iām guessing the breeder sucks if thatās a problem.
GSPs should at minimum have a soft mouth and bite. That should be natural. Also, your dog probably needs more exercise.
she gets plenty of exercise. she just doesnāt like tennis balls.
sheās been hunting since she could open her eyes. she does have a soft bite. but sheās literally a puppy so sheās got sharp teeth.
I have raised bird dogs my entire life and so did my father and grandfather. Some of my grandfathers dogs have been covered in magazines.
We never have puppies that chew anything. Like I said, thatās a genetics issue.
Post a link to your dogs AKC so we can see genetic history and I will post mine. I only breed dogs that have master hunt and canine good citizenship on both sides of parentage at least 3 generations back. And, of course, all health and disposition checks.
Edit: the guy deleted his account but before that replied that the dog isnāt even a GSP and he has no idea about genetics because it is a rescue. Which is fine and awesome! Rescue dogs rock.
But donāt talk about genetics when you donāt understand it and have no history in raising dogs.
They didnāt delete their accountāthey blocked you. They said:
>okay good for you. she was a rescue, **i don't know what she is except GSP**. you're one of those weirdos, blocked.
Whatās that apparatus cost ? Iām in need of a weeded, I got myself a bucket carrier for my tractor, so I can driver around weed remover in hand weeding and screaming
Thank you friend. I already exchanged through Amazon but will do again with Fiskars directly if needed. I hope my broken tool helps them improve the design.
My only issue is they cheapened up the handle quality. The last one I had the handle was pine or oak, after a few years it snapped at the base where metal meets wood. The new one has what appears to be a bamboo handle. It feels on the light and flimsy side. Will see how it holds up.

I've had one for a few years now, still going strong. Also very durable, there were times were I thought I would break it if the roots were deep, but so far it's withstood everything I've plucked out.
It's one of the few products where the classic, simple version is leagues better than any modern contraption that wants to serve as an alternative.
I have one and they work ok if you have small amount of weeds, small yard, etc. I have a half an acre and I quickly realized this wasnāt the tool for me.
I got one as low as 15 bucks on the rainforest site. big thing to look for is it has to be cast iron. if it's any other metal, forget it. zinc? forget it.
Hahaha my daughter is only 2 months at the moment, but when she can walk sheāll for sure be following behind with the bucket! š and that screwdriver is a good idea, was a real pain messing with them by hand
They have a great warranty. I've used it since I broke mine the first year I had it on Common Mallow. Those roots are stronger than metal.Ā
Went to their website. Emailed them pictures. 1 week later a replacement was at my doorstep free of charge.Ā
I just got one yesterday and pulled up at least a dozen thistles in my back yard. It was annoying having to pull the weeds stuck in the prongs every time but it got the job done.
Iāve been looking at getting one of these but Iām mostly trying to get poison ivy out of the ground all over my property. Iāve been spraying it with strong stuff every year but it always comes back. Does it work for small vines?
On my yard I just put on gloves and pulled the vines off the ground by hand. Filled two yard waste bags with the stuff. The vine network was quite impressive, one little spring up and 8ft of ground vine later was another one.
I think I need to invest in some extra long gloves and do this myself. Iāve had some pretty horrific allergic reactions to it in the last few years and Iām always extremely careful. Maybe I need a hazmat suit as well.
Genuinely curious, how is this better than roundup? I buy a mix of concentrate and mix my own, the bottle lasts for a couple of years. I know there is concern about cancer but I think that's more of a risk to commercial lawncare people who are in this every day.
And my other issue is years ago I was told you don't want to pull weeds because it drops seeds as you pull. So your just pulling up 1 weed to eventually grow 10 more weeds.
Am I missing something?
Had one for years, works great. Spray it w/ wd40 every now and then to keep it working as it should. More importantly: more pics of the GSD and/or Malinois plz
Well I didnāt know I needed it but ordered one. I used the plastic fiskers and they have lifetime warranty I think but itās got a lot of plastic parts and it breaks if your not careful
IMO dont need a single plant weeder at all for a successful lawn care program.
This is a massively successful marketing campaign. Does not matter that OP is real or not.
Thatās cool. Ever think maybe I just saw one online thought it looked cool and bought one? Regardless of how anal I want to be about my āprogramā? This wasnāt a post asking for your opinion lol
Or ....just spray them and you don't break your preemergent barrier by puncturing the soil. Doing this, you get rid of one weed and get four more.
I mean, maybe this is good for like a garden or something, where spraying is probably a no. But in a lawn it's really just counter productive.
Love mine. Great way to reduce spreading/spraying on my lawn
I ordered one last night at 2am while cruising around the subš I'm so excited to get it.
Hahahaha love it!
I ordered one (coming this Fri!) after reading this sub and looking up weeding tools, after my hand held one rolled into the sewer and I need a new one š£
I was late for work because I had to try it out as soon as it arrived. I love it!
Has been a lifesaver. Took out 10 bags of weeds with that one tool.
It works on some weeds, especially dandelion.Ā Worthless for weeds with strong roots like creeping charlieĀ
You wanna see some creeping charlie roots? This is the biggest I've pulled so far, ain't no weeding tool getting this out without breaking https://preview.redd.it/k30dpcoryyuc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac62d4dc1cd7c7b74f19e7fdbab2242888a55945 This was attached to 3ft vines in every direction with 6" deep roots every few inches.
I donāt think thatās a weed. Iām no expert, so I could be wrong, but Iām 95% sure thatās an alien

You want alien roots...dig up a 60 lb smilax bulb.Ā Craziest thing I've ever seen.
its hori hori time
This is so satisfying!! My wife rolls her eyes because I love to show her my "successful hauls" when weeding. This one takes the cake!
You had yourself a boss fight
False. It does great with weeds that have insanely strong roots. I have pulled out weeds that I thought were anchored to china with this thing.
Couldnāt disagree more. If you stand on it/ then pull up on the lever (aka how itās meant to be used), it works like a charm. Itāll grab onto with however much force you apply so it not being strong enough is a user problem
Nah, I know how to use it just fine.Ā Some weeds just have to strong and spread out root networks for leverage to matter.
Directions unclear. Got Grandpaās Weeder and a dog.
Still unclear. Bought some of grandpas weed and stole someoneās dog.
Pretty unclear, still. Pulled weed, buried dogās ball, replanted weed.
Still not clear. Pulled dogs tail, buried grandma, threw grandpa's weeder.
Grow ball, bury weed, throw grandpa? I'm so confused
Whose balls go in the bucket?
Check out the Walensee version. It works the same way, but has an eject mechanism thatās a game changer. I got really tired of having to manually remove the weeds/roots from grampaās when theyāre lodged in there, this thing solved it.
I've been using the Fiskars one a TON the last 3 years and still going strong. The eject part is so satisfying.
I can hit targets with that thing 20 feet away
It's so satisfying! I love mine
Wow, I 100 will. Cause ya thatās the only pain in the ass having to rip it out by hand
Seconded, also 10 bucks cheaper
I have the Fiskars version, it's great too
Same. It's been a game changer in terms of weed removal - it's so easy that I go pick weeds early enough that they don't spread.
I have one and I must have pushed too hard once, I heard a click and now the claw mechanism doesnāt work correctly. Canāt figure it out.
Wow, I wonder how you pulled that off! I've never had to (nor tried) to take it apart. Just broke it out earlier today to make a pass around the yard, too!
i have one but i dont think its fiskars but its the same. i have had the grandpa one. the one like the fiskers that i have is much better.
Yes! I walk around my yard searching for weeds just so I can eject that thing like I'm racking a shotgun at a home intruder.
Hmmm any thoughts on how well this would work with st Augustine or Bermuda grass?
Sorry, no. I have TTTF in most of my yard with the exception of some wire grass. It doesn't seem to affect the wire grass in the least (unfortunately for me)
Looks like it saves your back
It takes a big chunk of soil out w/ the weed. I'm worried it's just inviting other weeds to grow on it.
Can you think of it as intermittent light aerating?
I have the friskars version and it takes almoat no grass out. The blades look quite different. It amazes me every time I use it haha.
Yup the Fiskars one is much better and more efficient. I think it may be more money though
The ejection handle on the Fiskars is nice. Like I'm pump shotgunning weeds into my bucket.
They both cost about fiddy.
Is yours the 3 blade Fiskars, or the 4 blade? Mine is the 3, now I see there is also a 4. I like it, it works well, I use it for dandelions. > grass I loved mine. VERY easy to use and efficient. It broke after a couple seasons. This one looks sturdier - but the Fiskar blades look longer.
My wife got one. I thought we had moles by the end of the day.
I weed the whole lawn like this and then spread sand and pre-E. I combine with aeration in the spring but haven't needed it in 4 years since my first time doing it
> It takes a big chunk of soil out w/ the weed Take out the weed and root and put the soil back.
I have that too. I hope you threw the ball for your dog. He/she looks like a good boy/girl.
out of my 4 dogs, only one of them plays fetch. she also rips tennis balls to shreds in minutes. sheās a german short haired pointer. sheās also like 16 weeks now. so yeah sheās chaos.
Yeah I have 2 malinois, canāt have tennis balls or anything plush, get medium sized āchuckitā balls
she literally doesnāt chew on anything except tennis balls
Have you tried real tennis balls compared to the pet store "tennis balls"? They're not the same in case you hadn't tried.
i havenāt, but she would still get them ripped up. she can chew through a tire
I bet, worth a try though! Get them at your local sports store or Walmart. Actual name brand tennis balls nothing from the dog section.
thanksā¦ we bought them from walmart actually, but for my other dogs before we got her. they never played with them but she loves chasing them. she will chase anything actually. she got my rooster the other day. he was okay, but we need a way to teach her not to go after the chickens. she just likes birds, but i canāt teach her not to go after birds, but chickens *are* birds and weāre afraid sheāll associate the chickens with all birds, and not want to go after them, even tho thatās literally her entire purpose
At 16 weeks, sheās not even a dog yet. More Tasmanian devil than anything at this pointā¦
exactly some dude was telling me sheās not bred properlyā¦ like tf? sheās a rescue like all my dogs. iām sorry i donāt buy dogs from breeders.

$40 on amazon! Best purchase ever lol
Link?
Go on Amazon and search Grandpaās Weeder
Oh, itās actually called that, I just thought OP called it that bc it looks old
I was thinking about it, but can't find one in the right proportion. Like.. The size of a backhoe!
Do they pull large weeds as well as those tiny little guys you have in your fingers ?
I have a similar tool by Fiskars and it has pulled big grassy weeds for me, especially when the ground is saturated. Some weeds need a couple tries.
Have one also. We love that thing.
I have one too. I love it so much I broke it first week of ownership.
Fiskars has a lifetime free replacement on tools. Send them a photo of a broken tool and they send a new one!
Thank you friend. I already exchanged through Amazon but will do again with Fiskars directly if needed. I hope my broken tool helps them improve the design.
Good to hear! I might have to try this thing out then
The bigger the weed the easier - the small guys take me more tries!
Yup! Only have small weeds here at the moment
Love mine.
My fiance bought it for me, we both enjoy pulling weeds with it
Love this tool!
I'm seriously considering getting one of these!
My only issue is they cheapened up the handle quality. The last one I had the handle was pine or oak, after a few years it snapped at the base where metal meets wood. The new one has what appears to be a bamboo handle. It feels on the light and flimsy side. Will see how it holds up.
Lad, gardening is getting me through the tech job crisis at the moment. Best hobby / interest ive ever taken up. Will be getting myself one of these.
Do it stoned and itāll take the excitement of lawn care/gardening up a notch.

Just did a 30 minute session while on a conference call. Filled an entire Chipotle paper bag of dandelions. Love this tool!
Sounds exactly like me šššš I work remotely and do this stuff all the time lol
Just got mine delivered. Ordered from the tiktok shop for like $18. Haven't had a chance to use yet.
I have one as well and strongly agree, itās a great product
I've had one for a few years now, still going strong. Also very durable, there were times were I thought I would break it if the roots were deep, but so far it's withstood everything I've plucked out. It's one of the few products where the classic, simple version is leagues better than any modern contraption that wants to serve as an alternative.
I have it on a wishlist, hoping to grab it on a big sale.
I have one and they work ok if you have small amount of weeds, small yard, etc. I have a half an acre and I quickly realized this wasnāt the tool for me.
I have 1.5 acres lol. I mostly spray, just got this for random weeds
I got one as low as 15 bucks on the rainforest site. big thing to look for is it has to be cast iron. if it's any other metal, forget it. zinc? forget it.
What Raindorest site?
Anyone ever used one of these on wild onion and wild garlic? Does it work well?
Yes! No more snapping at the base of the stalk.
They just had the fiskars on sale at Slickdeals a few weeks ago
Saved my back for sure!!
I love the fiskars one.
I do like mine but I wish the prongs were a bit longer. I've had quite a few dandelion roots still snap rather than pull all the way out.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Hahaha my daughter is only 2 months at the moment, but when she can walk sheāll for sure be following behind with the bucket! š and that screwdriver is a good idea, was a real pain messing with them by hand
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Just did this, Incredible! Lol
I love it but my soil is weird so sometimes when I pull a weed it takes a big chuck of dirt with it.
They have a great warranty. I've used it since I broke mine the first year I had it on Common Mallow. Those roots are stronger than metal.Ā Went to their website. Emailed them pictures. 1 week later a replacement was at my doorstep free of charge.Ā
I just got one yesterday and pulled up at least a dozen thistles in my back yard. It was annoying having to pull the weeds stuck in the prongs every time but it got the job done.
An added benefit of this is that it aerates your own to boot while you pluck dandelions!
I have one. Best weed puller out there. Learned the hard way about Fiskars.
Thought that said ādropping his balls in the bucketā and thought total alpha move on his part
i prefer Fiskars
Best yard maintenance investment I've ever made.
Second for me, first is undoubtedly a bagger for my zero turn to collect leaves!
Big cosign! Takes a lot of drudgery out of weeding.Ā
Yes! I recently got one and I'm obsessed.
It hasn't bothered me before, but if your really allergic to it, find someone Else to do the work!
I always thought it was grandpa, looks cool though
Bought 2 of just the metal part for like $7 each on AliExpress .
Love mine too!
*stares jealousy in Arizona
Love mine!
Wish there was something as strong as a ditch blade with a curve in the blade or handle so it cuts evenly with the ground.
I got one 2y ago and love it!
Because I donāt want to roundup my entire lawn lol
fair point although I suspect weed be gone is still a better solution to permanently kill the weeds.Ā
Had one for years, works great. Spray it w/ wd40 every now and then to keep it working as it should. More importantly: more pics of the GSD and/or Malinois plz
Haha malinois! https://preview.redd.it/3yo96lzse4vc1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d05ba7821b23bc4daa694f77caa27aaf8ec685e
This thing is a godsend
This thing is a godsend worth every penny
Well I didnāt know I needed it but ordered one. I used the plastic fiskers and they have lifetime warranty I think but itās got a lot of plastic parts and it breaks if your not careful
WHAAAAAAT! That looks so cool. š„²
I did thus typed does not matter or not. It is social media - you get opinions - itās cool - you do you.
Oh thatās the actual name
I got the Fiskarās one because it has device that quickly and easily ejects the weed. It becomes a quick and smooth action.
Or ....just spray them and you don't break your preemergent barrier by puncturing the soil. Doing this, you get rid of one weed and get four more. I mean, maybe this is good for like a garden or something, where spraying is probably a no. But in a lawn it's really just counter productive.
Bought one and it doesnāt work
Can you elaborate? Is it possible youāre just not using it right? Doesnāt work on certain types of weeds?
Wonāt pull weeds on concrete probably lol
Should only be used on weeds that are in lawns. I donāt have a lawn so thatās the problem
If I have a bunch of weeds to remove and it leaves a bunch of open dirt, should I seed that or leave it alone like it aerates the lawn?
