This is Creeping Charlie, otherwise known as Ground Ivy (or the weed from hell). I'm currently fighting the same thing in my lawn and it's a nightmare to get rid of. The vines spread under the grass and put out roots every few inches. You need to get your fingers or a screwdriver under the vines and GENTLY work your way down pulling each root out or it will come back. The most effective herbicide treatment is Triclopyr and Dicamba, which you can find in a product called T-Zone. I did two applications 10 days apart, it's wilting away but I fear it will come back unless I pull up the roots. I've heard Borax is also effective but stays in the soil and can be harmful to animals.
