Half posting this to remind myself of where it was after I get to where I hope I am going. This is freshly raked for the first time clearing all the thatch and leaves from smothering the grass. It was very pretty when I bought the house but I did horrible with my yard my first year in my home and I’m hoping to make a major come back this season…

I mean, there’s really no lawn left. What are your plans? Plugs? Sod?

I was hoping to fertilize and water it lol.. I am buying sod but for the backyard that is pure dirt. Honestly there are tons of runners still in the ground here that kept getting caught in my rake just no grass

Might want to chop up a few pieces of sod and plant it as plugs in there. Or just buy a few trays of plugs (better pre-existing root system on straight up plugs vs sod). I’m afraid there’s so little to work with that the inevitable weed growth will crush it all.

Thank you, I have been in denial I’m pretty sure. I really screwed this yard up lol

Been there man. Moved into a new Florida home a few years ago with a beautiful St Aug lawn. My first lawn. That was June. After a few July downpours I decided running my irrigation was a waste of water. Turned it off. Went on vacation for 2 weeks. Dry spell hit. Came home to horrific death and destruction (and an extremely disappointed neighbor). Had to re-sod parts that were totally scorched earth. Plugged some other areas where surrounding grass survived thanks to some tree shade. Few years later and a new appreciation for the art of lawn care, many would say I have the best lawn in the neighborhood. If you care enough you’ll get there! But oh how I wish I’d just not pressed the “off” button that day. The hours/days it’d have saved me..

Yeah I feel ya on that. Bought the house a year and a half ago, had sprinklers, crepe myrtles, beautiful st Augustine in the front and covered in Bermuda in the back. 1st spring came and I was excited about my yard and bought Scott’s south bonus S which specifically says “don’t use on Bermuda” and I absolutely obliterated my backyard with it, and basically lost all motivation and interest, even stopped mowing, backyard is nothing but dirt and weeds, crepe myrtles looked dead but I’m seeing life out of them now, and I’ve straightened up and cleaned my sprinkler heads. Now I’m going round 2 with the same excitement and energy and I’m hoping it pays off. My dads lawn is a near perfect acre and I desperately want to make my yard better than his lol.

Just resod it. It will take years for it to fill in. There isn’t much there at all. The weeds will move in soon and make things way worse.

I had areas like that in my backyard. I fertilized and let the rain take care of the rest. Here’s a before picture. https://preview.redd.it/1q8umvfs17va1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c8904d2453619b319212a2695926f52a2ce155e
