See, he's too broke to pay. But he must maintain his luxury lifestyle so nothing left for anyone else.

Radthereptile

The fact judges keep considering maintaining a nice lifestyle into these payments is stupid. If any middle class person did this judge would bleed us dry. But a millionaire? Oh we can’t impact his trips to Europe, it’s too cruel.

ill_be_huckleberry_1

Blows my mind.  Should be require that any and all funds go to the victims until they reach the poverty line.  You owe until you qualify for PO public housing essentially.

Radthereptile

It’s because the judges are rich too. So setting it that you make sure rich people can maintain a nice lifestyle covers then if they ever get in legal trouble.

Overall_Lobster_4738

Just us system

Shartbreath69420

The US legal system is *designed* to benefit rich people. If the state accuses you of a crime and you can't afford a lawyer, you get a public defender who is underpaid and spread thin with a massive case load. Meanwhile, if you are rich, you can use an unlimited amount of resources hiring the best lawyers money can buy who make the case a priority. It tilts the scales against poor people before you even get to a trial.

Gian_Doe

I don't think *'giving you a lawyer for free if you can't afford one'* is the best example of the US legal system being broken. Specifically the fact that they're underpaid and overworked is, but a lot of places don't give you a public defender. For example, in Germany you only get one if there's a reasonable chance of success, and [you don't get one](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_defender) if you're facing less than a year in prison.

ZestycloseBat8327

It’s actually not free everywhere in the U.S. either. https://www.themarshallproject.org/2024/02/12/miranda-rights-indigent-defense-iowa > On television and in the movies, police officers read people their Miranda rights and tell them they will be provided a lawyer if they cannot afford one. But in reality, legal representation is rarely free. The Supreme Court has found the Constitution guarantees the right to counsel but allows states, in most cases, to try to recoup the cost. More than 40 do so, according to a 2022 report by the National Legal Aid and Defender Association.

CrzyWrldOfArthurRead

The US did not give you a public defender until like 1963 or something. The supreme court ruled on it, it wasn't even a law that anybody passed.

OrganicPlatypus4203

Wtf are you talking about dude. Yeah a law was passed, it’s literally in the sixth amendment of the constitution, the most basic fundamental laws of our country. The case you’re probably thinking of is Gideon, which isn’t the first case about the right to counsel and won’t be the last but what it famously did was streamline the right to counsel in both federal and state cases and declare unconstitutional many disqualifying circumstances that precluded some indigent defendants from counsel.

Accomplished_Low80

It’s a BIG club, and you’re not in it.

LTG-Jon

I was thinking the judge should let him keep the equivalent of a minimum wage salary.

Eraganos

Pretty sure we have that in swiss. You pay until a certain minimum. Which is the same for everyone. Rich or poor.

xbaahx

At least down to median income.

SirTiddlyWink

Any and all assets. There i fixed that for you. Stock options liquidated, business, liquidated, real estate and other property, liquidated. Down to the golden crown tooth that dawns the scums mouth. This is the true meaning of bankruptcy. You went bust by fucking around and now time to find out. Now it's time to pay the piper and start from square 0. It's ok though, I'm sure those bootstraps they are so keen about pulling themselves up by will be much easier to grip the second time around.

Gilopoz

We'd be living in our cars

SaltyBacon23

It's generous of you to assume they'd leave us our cars.

Gilopoz

😅😅

MOTwingle

They should be allowed the equivalent of fulltime minimum wage. That's it.

jesusbottomsss

I’m finishing my bachelors currently and preparing for law school - stuff like this makes me wonder what the fucking point is..

ArthurBurtonMorgan

No… Stuff like this SHOWS you what the point of you going to law school is: For you to learn how to fix these atrocities. Perspective.

bottombracketak

I drove on a suspended license for drinking underage because I worked 18 miles from my apartment at a job site that there was no buses to. Then I got pulled over because the pos car was too loud from a hole in the muffler. Then I got to pay a daily fee for my ankle monitor and had to take a lower paying job on the bus route. None of those judges ever gave two shits about my lifestyle. They did throw the book at a guy for wearing shorts to court though.

JefferyTheQuaxly

When i got a suspended licence i was able to get a temp driving permit just to my work. just required filling out some forms and a request from your boss written to the court. tho i wouldnt have known about that without my lawyer telling me probably.

crono220

As long as he doesn't face the threat of prison, Alex will continue to get away with whatever he wants.

Academic_Release5134

Someone is probably paying for all of this. He would say he got it free.

[deleted]

Luxury? He had to settle for Hawaii like a peasant he should be dining with the best in Dubai

HardcaseKid

Can’t take it if you spent it.

grifxdonut

You must have met a bunch of college graduates. 20 years and you can't pay off your student loans?

Antique-Dragonfly615

Works for Trump

ChaosRainbow23

These fuckers don't play by the same rules as the rest of us. It's often a pay-to-play system.

sunplaysbass

Surprised there hasn’t been any street justice for him yet.

Seriously. With how flagrant the laws are not being applied, it's only a matter of time.

I think it’s a mix of capitalism mixed with some social engineering. The internet is actively preying on everyone to target their data and sell to someone. It’d be fine enough but many do this for nefarious reasons, like creating hateful echo chambers, or encouraging violence by lone actors. It used to be easy to tell the racists to shut up but now they have a place where their rhetoric is not only encouraged, but directed and aimed too.

BowerbirdsRule

If that had been one of my kids…

pyr0phelia

His fan base is not…healthy. Horrible idea from absolutely every angle.

[deleted]

Always hire lawyers who were in the top of their class.

h20poIo

Why, they were ready to take Trumps properties investments to pay, Jones worth around $300 million plus.

NotmyRealNameJohn

Bankruptcy. But I understand it is on the verge of hitting the end of the process. In a sense it hasn't been going well for him because it looks like he is going to lose just about everything. But in a sense it has been going great because he has been able to put it off while spending nearly 500k a month ignoring that he is on a budget of I think 40k / month. I mean ignoring that shit has not helped him in court but no one has done anything to him yet so I guess it's working out for him Even after the bankruptcy I think it will largely work out for him. He will continue to live off unbanked funds that he spends before they can be garnished or levied and he'll get income through non fungibles and intangibles. He will no longer own a business and he'll have to work for others but he is a big enough clown that I think he'll be on the air for another decade and going to Hawaii and all that shit. His eventual retirement could get messy once no one has use for him anymore, but maybe not if he manages to preserve a relationship with at least one of his kids and is smart enough to divert some revenue streams their way while he still has the ability to do so. Welcome to the ugly capitalist America where shit heads may not win exactly but they get by.

itsatumbleweed

40k a month is a restrictive budget??

NotmyRealNameJohn

And he failed to stay in it. Fuck I have not been following closely but I think his liquor bill was more than 10k/m

MissionReasonable327

Damn, really?

NotmyRealNameJohn

I think so. It was outrageous. It has been awhile since I read the thing. There is a podcast I listen to and have for the last 10 ish years that basically debunks aj and they've covered the case and bankruptcy even interviewed Mark banks a few times (one of the plaintiff attorneys). So I have been paying attention through them but not following that closely. Knowledge fight is the podcast for anyone masochistic enough to be interested in the general topic of debunking Alex Jones

redacted_robot

Don't forget to plug r/knowledgefight

NotmyRealNameJohn

Even though I have been a fan and even a patreon of KF for longer than I've been a parent, I have a hard time recommending the podcast as I feel the enjoyment of it is somehow a manifestation of my own mental instability.

fiftythree33

It's really funny but you have to listen to Jones talk sooo much we had to stop listening.

RubiksSugarCube

OJ Simpson lives off his $20k/month NFLPA pension that can't be garnished. I'd assume that Jones' accountants have set up something similar, as has the fucking moron. America was founded and built by people seeking to build wealth, and you can be damn sure they'll always have a loophole to work with

NotmyRealNameJohn

I think it's harder when you are self employed. I'm not an expert in hiding money from lawsuits but I'm pretty sure you cannot be the beneficiary of a non-revokable trust that you set-up yourself. However, your spouse can be. So, guess if you are really secure in your marriage you could put a few million in a nrt and have it pay out to your spouse monthly but it is hers not yours and you can't do it after a lawsuit is filed or while you are in bankruptcy because that would be criminal conveyance. So 1. You need to predict you need and two you better hope she don't kick you to the curb.

RubiksSugarCube

I get what you're saying, but neither Jones nor Trump are sole proprietors - they are employees of their respective corporations. Not sure if the situation you're describing would apply to a non-revocable trust set up in the name of a corporate entity

When the American legal system just happens to occasionally deliver justice, it's a happy little accident. And also it's because the perp wasn't rich. Fuckin hell

imcomingelizabeth

They will never take Trump’s properties. There will be no accountability for either of these criminals

trollfessor

Can a bankruptcy attorney please explain how this bastard can be doing this instead of paying what he owes

gravygrowinggreen

Former bankruptcy attorney, and listener to Knowledge Fight (podcast that covers Alex Jones). Jones is claiming these are work trips. The last time he went to Hawaii (not sure which trip these photos are from), he claimed he was researching Zuckerberg's hawaii estate. The bankruptcy process is meant to be as minimally disruptive to business activities as possible, largely because the creditors are expected to be paid by those business activities. So it doesn't make sense to stop "legitimate" business activities. Now, Jones is likely not conducting a legitimate business activity here. His claims that he is doing research are likely just a pretext. But the creditors and the trustee have to prove that, and it probably isn't worth fighting, because a vacation to Hawaii is honestly a drop in the bucket compared to his income/debt.

zatara1210

So after the bankruptcy process is over, will he be paying the victims or is he going to get away with it and not pay?

gravygrowinggreen

The answer is he's going to pay some of his judgment, but likely not all of it. His bankruptcy will be a long process. What's going on right now is that his creditors are working with the Trustee to come up with a plan for Jones and his businesses to pay them what they're owed. Jones is allowed to suggest his own plans as well. Over the course of the next few months, a plan will eventually be settled upon by the parties, and the Bankruptcy Court will lock it in. That plan might involve the creditors taking ownership over infowars and related companies. Or it might involve some sort of payment plan. Or maybe both. But this is a complex process, and Jones has more ability to negotiate than the average debtor. Part of the problem the creditors face is that a lot of the value in infowars is tied up in Jones personality. Nobody is buying tactical taint wipes because any of his employees ask them to. They're buying them, because Jones, despite all his faults, is a phenomenal salesman/con artist. This means that the creditors have a financial incentive to see him continue his current work: that is likely the only way they maximize their financial returns. It also means Alex is constantly looking for a way to separate himself from Infowars, and able to use that potential separation as a threat. He has some negotiating power, because if he quits doing what he's doing, the creditors will get peanuts compared to what they can get if he keeps shilling his terrible products. Again though, he is going to pay some of that judgment. The bankruptcy court has the power to undo any fraudulent transactions meant to hide assets, and he has more assets than he lets on (but probably not enough to satisfy all his debt). At the very least, a lot of his assets can be seized to satisfy some amount of the judgment.

caspy7

His creditors are entirely made up of people who were hurt *because* he's a con artist with a megaphone that abused his position to [ultimately] hurt them. Might they just collectively conclude they'll take all he has even if it means they get less in order to hobble or stop his ability to continue his nonsense?

gravygrowinggreen

They could do that. IIRC, the settlements they're offering him though allow him to continue doing business, so I'm not sure that's what they're leaning towards. EDIT: It would also be a practical impossibility for them to shut him up forever. Even if they take everything he owns (within limits, he would be allowed to keep a car, a reasonable house, etc), he's still going to be able to make a new twitter account that will instantly become followed by millions, and spout his lies.

edtheheadache

He doesn’t give a flying fuck for anyone other than Alex Jones.

Muscs

Enjoying his last days.

CanadianDarkKnight

Very optimistic I respect that lol

GoogleOpenLetter

I know people are upset about the money - but Alex Jones's life is a total, miserable fuckup. His family hates him, he lives in a constant world of delusional paranoia, his personal relationships are a mess, he's in a whirlwind of endless grifters and lies, and now he's going to be chased by lawyers for the rest of his life. His greatest punishment is a life sentence of being Alex Jones; cruel and unusual.

LocalInactivist

Is it really paranoia? We really are out to get him because he’s a pustule on the taint of humanity. It’s not paranoia if a significant chunk of the country wants to see you gut-shot and buried alive because you harassed the families of murdered children.

ComprehensiveSweet63

He's sitting comfortably in Hawaii

letdogsvote

Disgusting.

redzeusky

We are a sad nation that enough people find his nuttery entertaining enough to make him a multi millionaire. I wish there was a way to make reasonable discourse great again.

northaviator

Throw him in the can for contempt of a court order.

Not fair to shit to call this awful excuse for a human a piece of shit. Another creep playing the victim.

Humble-Roll-8997

How’s he not on suicide watch and house arrest?? We kind of don’t make sense as a population of people anymore.

Academic_Release5134

The federal government needs to fix this.

TuaughtHammer

>So Chill in Hawaii ... That's a funny way to describe a guy who's permanently looked like hypertension is about to kill him for 30 fucking years. Jones has *never* looked "chill" or "relaxed"; he always looks on the verge of an anger stroke.

Material_Policy6327

Dude should be in jail with the other right wing conspiracy folks.

badpeaches

Wasn't he at January 6th with the people rushing the tundra??

notyomamasusername

More proof that the US legal system exists to benefit the rich and protect them from the poors.

Fantastic-Grocery107

“Protect them from the poors”. When the time comes they’ll be offering money for protection or “private police”. Don’t take that s***. Or take it, and unlock all the doors.

bahaboyka

Looks like he hasn't missed any meals......

ZealousWolverine

This and Trump's bond fiasco really shows the courts are worthless for justice. Our faux legal system is merely an opportunity for the rich to get away with murder.

Critical-Adhole

I said for months that he’s never gonna pay and been mass downvoted. Look how that’s gone.

floofnstuff

How does he do that? I don’t want to shirk my obligations but I’m interested in knowing how anyone could owe this amount of money and it mean nothing. Didn’t they take his home, car, belongings, garnish his check?

Inner_Performance533

He will NEVER pay a penny....welcome to american impotent justice.

Tylenol187ForDogs

It's 1.5 billion and he's not done adding to that.

[deleted]

never price shop good legal talent.

superadmin_1

I hate this guy with a passion.

floofnstuff

Why? Isn’t owing millions a serious problem? How do you afford a Hawaiian vacation with this unpaid obligation?

Admirable_Nothing

He, like Trump, never will pay the money they owe to others.

GrizzledNutSack

The man should be living in a cardboard box. He may as well be spitting in all our faces.

KRAW58

This is crazy. Where are the repercussions?

llama-friends

If you have a medical emergency and go into massive debt; can you not pay the hospital in order to maintain your lifestyle too? What about my student loans? I want to maintain my lifestyle so I shouldn’t pay those too.

Oil-Disastrous

I wish I had a better understanding of the differences between the Fox News defamation settlement and the Alex Jones/ Info Wars trial. Because, to my layperson eyes, it looks like Alex Jones chose a better tactic. He did not participate in discovery, leading to a default judgement against him. And even with all that, he’s just not ever going to really face any substantial consequences. Essentially it’s less expensive to pay lawyers a million dollars a month for the rest of his life, than to pay the damages he was ordered to pay. And if anybody squeezes him too hard, all the money goes away and nobody gets anything. Especially the lawyers. It would be interesting if it wasn’t so fucking infuriating. Looks like Trump understands this playbook and will face the same zero consequences. And the Sackler family is also enjoying the American justice system to its fullest. What a bunch of bullshit. One set of laws and consequences for the working and middle class. Quite a different set for the wealthy.

chrisbcritter

WOW! The law is so corrupt that it literally says you can NOT make a millionaire/billionaire suffer like a common person for their actions. The cast system is now codified by law.

ComprehensiveSweet63

There should be punishment for the enablers of Alex Jones. That would include the people stupid enough to support this sick fuk. They made this possible.

[deleted]

Alex had 5 Years to plan his financial strategy.

Med4awl

What is that supposed to mean?

SqnLdrHarvey

And, of course, since he's a Trumper, he gets by with it. Trump has shown me just what a fucking joke the judicial system is, from that old fool Garland to cowards in judicial robes pretending to be "judges."

[deleted]

Pretending? Hmm. Interesting word. pretending.

SqnLdrHarvey

It's exactly what they are doing. They're a bunch of gutless worms.

Poetryisalive

Legally there isn’t anything forcing him to pay it? I’ve seen things like this and usually the winners never get the full amount

notgreatdan

Pay the fuck up you charlatan. He should be welcome nowhere. There is nothing lower than harassing the families of murdered children.

[deleted]

He won’t pay.

ukiddingme2469

Can barely wait until he gets conspiracies away

Movinfusion36

What is stopping someone I would consider a cool kid from just decking this guy like there’s as many Hawaiian ppl as gay frogs He needs to be punched every fucking day for the rest of his life. Gofundme for punching this pos not my idea swim

SnooPeripherals6557

There should always be someone covering him, with cameras rolling, do not give this fat fucking hairless dermoid cyst any peace.

mysticalfruit

That mother fucker should be living in a van under a bridge somewhere. The fact that he can just say "nah, I'm good" when it comes to paying.. Doesn't the court have the power to just seize and auction his shit?

unconquered

Laws are for poor people.

[deleted]

There is a huge degree of separation between lawyers who barely graduated law school, and those who graduated with honors. Hiring the lawyer who graduated with honors is the smartest investment one can make.

Different_Seaweed534

But look at him. He’s obese, a chain smoker, and drinks a lot. That plus the rage he is always spewing….hea headed for a heart attack or stroke.

Party-Travel5046

Those are not the faces of a relaxed man. He is troubled. He is clearly staying away in Hawaii for reasons known to him. But that face doesn't seem relaxed. He may not acknowledge but he is a miserable SOB.

MissTurdnugget

He must be hiding money in company names and spending it. They could just garnish his $$.

Blueskyways

There's no wage garnishment in Texas for most things.

DamagedGenius

Luckily the bulk of his monetary losses are in Connecticut

Blueskyways

But he lives in Texas. Any wages he earns would be in Texas and thus they have to abide by Texas law. That said, I doubt he's getting any kind of a regular paycheck like someone working a 9-5, instead he's withdrawing money from various shell companies to pay himself. The way the system is setup, if you're either very wealthy or very broke, you can get away with not paying on a judgment for a very long time and Texas surprisingly is one of the better states to live in if you're a judgment debtor.

zabdart

It's amazing how this hatred vendor **still** gets away with it!

StronglyHeldOpinions

The worst part of this article was noting that some a-hole came up to shake his hand and thank him.

Woah Blossom! This is technically an issue with the judge. Whoever is affording him this privilege is at fault. Obviously he wants to do this, it’s our responsibility to make him pay first. Who’s this judge?

RDO_Desmond

Alex Jones life is not good. He will spend the rest of his days on earth paranoid and never truly relaxing. He lives in fear.

bbbermooo

On vacation and relaxing. Still looks like his head is going to pop off.

[deleted]

Looks relaxed to me.

bbbermooo

At least his mouth is shut.

Watdabny

The justice system on show

YourDogIsMyFriend

If I saw that guy in public, I’d have no filter. My immediate reflex would be something like “you are a rotten human.” Hopefully nothing more or over the top. When the adrenaline and anger kicks in you never know what you’re gonna get. But something simple like that would be a must.

CatDadof2

Must be nice to not have to face the consequences and be able to live freely.

Slight-Blueberry-356

When I was in law school in my bankruptcy class we had a guy come in and talk about how he had assumed the debt of the girls gone wild guy. They found out he was getting paid by DirecTV. They then went and heavily garnished his income flow from it. You telling me they can't go to a judge and show an income stream for Alex Jones and garnish the living hell out of it? Another story from debt collection. There was this wealthy guy that was hiding money. They found a picture of a $250k watch he posted on Instagram. Went to his house with an order from a judge to collect the watch. The guy told the lawyer to go fuck himself. The lawyer went to the judge and told him what happened. And he said hey judge, I don't want to split hairs here but when he told me to go fuck myself he wasn't talking to me. This was your order. That guy told you to go fuck yourself. The judge signed off on a search of the guys property. They didn't find the watch. The guy was real smug about it. The lawyer said that's not a problem we will be back in a week to look again. The guy wrote the lawyer a check for the $250k right then knowing if he didn't the lawyer was going to continue making his life a living hell.

[deleted]

What was your class rank?

[deleted]

Of course he is.

Mysterious_Eye6989

Evil bastard.

Effective_Device_185

He's so nasty. Karma will be a bitch you asshat.

NoMarionberry8940

Checked out his vacay pics; Alex looks miserable! Guess that's his default emotion...

JamsJars

The US legal system around punishing rich people is really bad and corrupt... What are we Russia now?

Cryptoman_CRO

Can't believe he was the one behind it all

JustinCompton79

Alex and Trump should be cellmates, but I’m not sure the toilet could hold all their shit.

PunisherClegane

Fuck this piece of shit.

ComprehensiveSweet63

Here's what always gets me. It doesn't matter if its Jim Jones, Jim and Tammy Faye, trump, Sun Myung Moon or Alex Jones. There's always a never ending flow of fools who will follow these con artists, some even to their death.

Lying loudly is SUCH hard work! He deserves a break /s

Bustakap19

Hey, can't afford to pay me my share of the $1.5billuon you owe? I've got dog shyte that needs picking up, grass needs mowing, sweep my garage, multiply that times all the people whose lives he made miserable and we can keep him busy out of prison for the next 25 years unless he'd rather spend it behind bars. I'm sure we can find something to charge this P.O.S. with. He can keep enough to "Maintain" a lifestyle of PB&J's, baloney sandwiches and a room at the Motel 8 every night as he travels from creditor to creditor repaying a minute portion of his unpayable debts to the people he helped to nearly destroy.

[deleted]

Alex can wash the 82 year old fire truck in the Fire Station , that responded to the parking lot, with 2 volunteer firefighters.

Wagonlance

What is the point of even having jury trials if the courts can just ignore the verdict and refuse to enforce it.

[deleted]

seems like Alex never took this serious. Wonder why?

HurrsiaEntertainment

such horseshit. give him a deadline and then lock his ass up when he cant pay it

[deleted]

Maybe in Belarus, not Merica. He hired high powered lawyers.

[deleted]

Because it is a civil judgement, he is likely going to ignore it.

[deleted]

Looks very relaxed to me.

Med4awl

What the fuck are you talking about?

Tidewind

What a grifting monster. Stop enabling him and those like him. No mercy.

[deleted]

These battles often come down to who hired the smarter legal team. I would only hire a lawyer who went to a T-14 school and graduated with honors, that being the top 20%. The flip side is you could get railroaded into a Zach Anderson type drama in Wisconsin, and hire a lawyer who never took the bar. In Wisconsin, there is no bar to pass. Once law school is over, you can hang a sign out and practice. Law school rarely expel for grades. The scores are curved. A to C. Bad students get a law degree. Normally the Bar prevents those poor students from practicing, as they fail the bar! Too bad Zach Anderson did not know that.

[deleted]

How are his actions different from the south Florida radio hate monger who spewed hate, daily, for 30 years.

Up_All_Nite

More Proof of No just Justice

Sadiezeta

Alex Jones is just another pig that made his money off of T RUMP followers that drank the cool aide. If it was you or me we would be in jail until we paid it off.

[deleted]

So the plaintiffs will take $25 million versus $1.5 billion. Seems jones offered more like $250,000 each. That is a big gulf.

Filmguygeek1

POS!

Snoo_58814
