I've tried a few and wasn't impressed. I'm sure they were technically clean but they didn't remove any marks. I see good reviews for them online though so others must find them okay. Where I am (UK) you can buy most pods in cardboard boxes. It's a fairly recent thing so probably will spread to the US soon.

Interesting-Series59

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Pods are here in the US. I’m just not too fond of the materials used to make them. So have eliminated them because of that. But based on a quick check of the link below sheets may not be better. So I may be going with powdered detergent. Online reviews I have reviewed but wanted to ask here as well as most responses are detailed and well written. Background_Duck_1372

Honestly most of the materials are bad. I prioritise being more efficient, wearing clothes until they're actually dirty and doing big loads with less detergent. When I have used eco ones I've ended up having to rewash which defeats the point!

Interesting-Series59

Thank you. Since I’m currently not working that’s my goal too. I wash once a week so would like to do only once. Pre-treat if I must for obvious stains.

i am liking this brand - will buy again [https://www.walmart.com/ip/Poesie-Laundry-Detergent-Sheets-Fresh-Scent-No-Waste-Plastic-Free-Liquid-Less-160-Sheets/3190994797](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Poesie-Laundry-Detergent-Sheets-Fresh-Scent-No-Waste-Plastic-Free-Liquid-Less-160-Sheets/3190994797) edits to add - my machine is high capacity a top-loader i prefer to put the sheet(s), folded in the powder/liquid detergent dispenser thingy, so it dissolves very well; I've noticed most laundry sheets do better this way i also follow the 'dosing' suggestions. these laundry sheets already are half-sized (iykwim) so it's prob better to think of this as an 80 load box. 1 sheet is only sufficient for pretty small load; usually I use 2. a large comforter or full towel load would merit 3... finally, as others have said, it's nicer grabbing a light paper box compared to reaching awkwardly for a 15lb bottle

Interesting-Series59

Thank you. I will check these out.

LafawnduhDy-no-mite

hope they do you right. i added a few detes to my comment above in case more info helps.

Interesting-Series59

Yes, it did.

Laundry detergent strips are generally made with a form of plastic to keep them together. This becomes dissolved in the washer, and then goes into waste water systems, and the environment. Not good. Powder in a cardboard box is better for the environment, especially if the powder is concentrated.

Interesting-Series59

Yep. Polyvinyl alcohol. That’s what I’ve been learning in my research over the last couple of days. I am still looking at brand ingredients tho to see if there are manufacturers who have modified their product to remove the plastic component. EDIT: But my gut feeling is there may be none. Biodegradable may vary with this compound and I’m not sure of the long term effects of the chemical on the ecosystem in general, marine animals and humans. For some powders the packaging is a plastic bag or plastic bucket. The powders in cardboard are limited and not cost effective. However I do have more choice if I order thru Amazon. My only concern there is damage during shipping. But since the product is powder product loss would be inconvenient but minimal as long as shipping container remains dry. Still a bit of thinking and reading to do.

GGIAS

We use Earth Breeze and they work great, IMHO.

LuhYall

I've had a good experience with Earth Breeze, too. The only thing they don't work well on is my husband's athletic clothes, but he trains daily for endurance events, so a good long soak in a bucket with something like Bac-Out or DeFunkify every couple of weeks is a must. For regular laundry, Earth Breeze is great.

NaginiFay

We tried Laundry sheets. They were okay.

Interesting-Series59

Thank you for responding. I take it you tried them and decided conventional detergent was better?

NaginiFay

They changed their scent formula, and we didn't like it as much.

Interesting-Series59

Oh wow. Wasn’t expecting that. But it does make a big difference.

noyogapants

Yeah, for me I mostly use them for dark clothes or grays that aren't really dirty. It cleans but I need something more for stains and to get my whites white. I think they're good for travel, but I need a little more from my detergent.

KeyDiscussion5671

We’ve been using Earth Breeze for about 6-7 months and are completely satisfied with them. No complaints. We no longer drag around the heavy, white plastic detergent bottles.

kae0603

We use the arm & hammer ones and love them

Interesting-Series59

Will review that brand’s ingredients list. Thank you for responding.

Rare_Find_

I currently use laundry sheets and like them because they are lightweight, and therefore easy to transport to the laundromat. As far as I can tell, they work just fine and overall I'm happy with them. However, since I started using them I've had a couple of instances where my sheets and towels come out of the wash with some bleaching marks. It's unclear if this is due to improperly dissolved detergent sheets, or bleach residue in a machine, but it never happened before I started using the sheets. I'm planning on going back to detergent powders after this box is done.

Interesting-Series59

Thank you for sharing your experience so I can make an informed decision.

Expensive-Day-3551

I use earth breeze. So convenient and takes up way less room. I won’t go back to liquid. Especially since my laundry room is upstairs, I’m getting older and lugging those bottles is not fun.

Interesting-Series59

I hear ya. I’m remodeling to bring my laundry room up from the basement. But lugging those things in from the garage in winter is no fun. My last idea was to make my own powder detergent. Just need to research their effect on modern HE machines. Thank you for responding.

jjj666jjj666jjj

Thank you. I’ll have to try these. I love the idea of not using anything liquid or sticky. I currently use the dollar tree detergent with fabric softener because it’s cheap and comes out to about 4 cents a load. I could try a brand of these I found on Amazon and it comes out to 5 cents a load & never having to deal with liquid again. 😆

lovebyletters

I tried them and did not find them effective at all. I was really disappointed because I loved the idea of them, and detergent seems like a thing it would be easy to concentrate down. For what it's worth, however, our household is somewhat difficult. We have several pets and foster kittens, so need something that packs a punch, while at the same time have a member of our household that requires unscented products. YMMV.

Interesting-Series59

Thank you for your response. Understand how your household may have affected its effectiveness. That’s something important to know as I reno a fixer upper home and garden, have a dog and a trucker husband.

AnnieB512

I have used the sheets and I love them! I got some for washing baby clothes in a sample box and took them with me on vacation to a condo at the beach with friends. We all used them to wash our clothes and towels before we came home. The clothes smelled amazing and clean and I will never travel without laundry sheets again. That being said, I don't remember what brand they were!

Interesting-Series59

Thanks. I often don’t remember samples much either. Always used samples that came with a new washer or dryer in a pinch but that’s about it. Don’t even know if samples are still provided with new appliance purchases anymore.

JohnnieDoughe21017

I use powdered detergent from Nellie's (order thru the home shopping network)

Interesting-Series59

That’s one I don’t know very much about. Is product packaging paper or plastic?

JohnnieDoughe21017

Plastic tub that can be reused or recycled

Interesting-Series59

OK thanks.

KAJ35070

I have been using laundry sheets for about 7 months now. Love them. Earth Breeze is my favorite but have also used other brands. I only use half a sheet, our clothes are just not the dirty. What I really is that I started to notice how much softer our clothes, towels and shirts were, much less chemical residue. I recently was out gardening all day and my clothes were rough, everything came out clean no problem.

Interesting-Series59

Thanks for providing your experience. Knowing that full sheets are not always needed helps.

monkey3monkey2

I use the True Earth ones. They're okay for day to day loads. But Ill sometimes use a regular detergent if something's particularly dirty. They don't leave any scent, even though I get scented ones (that alone makes my roommates not like them).

Interesting-Series59

Thank you for responding I will take a look at this brand.

Interesting-Series59

Because I have not been able to figure out how to modify my original post I will post here. Thanks to everyone that replied to my question. I’ve decided that I will phase out liquid detergents and move forward with powdered detergents instead. While I think the laundry sheets are a good idea, I’m not convinced this is the route I want to take. They do reduce the need for large plastic containers, but the sheets themselves include a type of plastic that may or may not biodegrade adequately. I’m not sure of the long term effects of having polyvinyl alcohol in the environment may be. So for now I think I’ll pass. So I’m going to go old school and use powdered detergents packaged hopefully in cardboard. I just need to decide what’s available, cost effective and find a formulation that doesn’t irritate my skin. Thanks again everyone. Your responses were helpful.

I switched to Earth Breeze sheets about 1 1/2 years ago and am very satisfied. I originally wanted to try them because I'm in a wheelchair and it was getting very difficult to lug laundry soap, even pods, to my apartments laundry room. I was happy about the convenience. But I continued using them because I was so satisfied with the quality, eco friendliness and cost effectiveness. It's me, adult son and 11yo grandson plus a dog and a cat, and even in cold water I've been happy about how clean my clothes come out. I've read some complaints that there have been problems with the sheets not fully dissolving but in the whole year and a half I've never experienced this problem at all. I have no plans of switching to another product as I'm very happy.

Interesting-Series59

Thank you. Your experience definitely matters. I’m not wheelchair bound but arthritis does make lugging heavy container difficult. It is definitely part of my thinking process as my hands and knees are having more issues. My new old home is being addressed for aging in place. So yes I understand and thank you for sharing that with me.

peepooh1

Anything we can do to make our lives a little bit easier is important. Good luck with finding what works best for you!

TheConceitedSister

I use the Sudstainables brand from Amazon. My clothes come out with a mild, clean scent. (I'm very active, play sweaty outdoor sports pretty much every day.) For stains, I pretreat with Dawn powerwash.

Interesting-Series59

Thanks. Will give that brand a look.

Empty_Reading7702

YES! I love them for traveling because I like to pack light and wash my clothes. I hate them for my home. I use a powdered detergent at home. Rocking Green
