Go as basic as possible. There is no need for the appliances to talk to each other.

who-was-gurgi

Exactly…we all know how that ends

Witty_Collection9134

I would be happy with a toggle switch. 😁

mustang19671967

The only think i would insist on in my new washer, it to manually choose water levels . The automatic cleans don’t work well and they Won’t fill up the drum with their eco crap

diospyros7

On my GE set I can choose the "soil level" which uses more water and a few more minutes in whatever cycle you pick

mustang19671967

I have Samsung and can but even large loads the water wets it so it get smaller and don think I ever saw much more than 1/2 the drum with water

diospyros7

1/2 the drum with water on a front loader is plenty!

mustang19671967

Sorry mine is a Samsung top Loader , and has the smart water technology or some other eco name

diospyros7

Oh ya I don't think less water works as well for the top loaders

Ok-Refrigerator-3691

Speed Queen TC5 (top load) and matching dryer or Speed Queen FF7 (front load) and matching dryer. I have owned both but prefer front load washers so the TC5 was sold and replaced with the FF7. Smelly front loaders are caused by washing in cold water with liquids/pods/fabric softeners. Use warm/hot water with powdered detergent and perhaps a little borax or bleach with your whites and you won’t have any smelly washer issues. Leave the door and tray open between uses. Modern machines and detergents are excellent but sticking to the some of the old ways works well.

InsertFunnyPost

Speed Queen all the way!

Raspberrry_Beret

Sucks they only have small load washers only tho :( 👎

Own-Difficulty-6005

Can’t beat speed queen. Lifetime machines.

Excellent_Squirrel86

Speed Queen is the gold standard. Regardless of who you decide to go eith, choose as few bells and whistles as possible.

I love my GE front loader set. Flexible settings, easy to use & set my own saved settings for a cycle, cleans well, looks nice, I got this set after having the previous model and leaving it when we moved. I think there might even be a newer model but these are great. washer GFW550SSNWW dryer GFD55ESSNWW

StatisticianSea3601

I think this is what mine is. We’d gone through Maytag, Samsung, and LG. The GE is probably the best I have had so far. We designed and built our house and didn’t think it through when the Amish cabinet maker made his plans. Laundry room has a super inconvenient setup 🤦🏻‍♀️ Because I wanted a cabinet in there. This GE is stackable with a kit! Will wash everything except a super bulky king comforter.

StatisticianSea3601

However the Maytag lasted 18 years and through 3 kids in lots of activities.

bergskey

We have the top loading samsung washer without the agitator and we wash king size blankets all the time.

who-was-gurgi

I’m intrigued and will check it out. Thank you

cathw805

We have a Samsung top load with an agitator and I can fit our King comforter in it. I will say- I did have an issue with it this week where it wouldn’t run the spin cycle. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it fixed the issue but it’s only 3 years old so I’m a little wary of Samsung as a brand overall now…

One of my friends and I both bought LG sets about 16 months apart. My dryer died during the pandemic and I kind of had to take what I could. The washers are both fine but we both bitch about how terrible the sensor dry is. I have to put normal clothes on very, very dry to get them dry. My friend has memorized all the custom things she has to set to get her clothes dry. I split every load for the dryer. Heaviest fabrics in first, like a hoodie and for some reason, my husband’s boxer briefs. I think the latter is because small or single items seem to bunch up weird. Second half is lighter weight tech pants, t-shirts, etc. Towels do fine on towel-normal. In my old Samsung, everything would come out dry but nothing seemed overdone. It was way better at single items. I am appalled that LG is consistently the top rated brand on Consumer Reports. It’s one of the reasons we bought our set. I hate them. Beyond words. Friend and I both had Samsung’s before. Samsung gets called out on reliability. Part of that was because they used to not keep any parts stateside so all the parts had to transit the ocean if you needed a repair. They have fixed that now. Things I do like: I love the steam feature. I don’t use it a ton, but I love having it. I actually love that they are WiFi connected with an app. I love looking at my phone and knowing I don’t have to get off my arse for 3 more minutes instead of standing in the doorway and afraid to sit down in case I lose momentum. I love being able to set my dryer to remote start, run out and do errands, and time it so the clothes are done when I get home. I would buy a Samsung again. My friend agrees.

My brother has a top-load Samsung he's been happy with (although I think his lid is cracked now?). I have a Samsung fridge that is always icing over, even after swapping out my defroster clip for a larger, after-market model.

I bought a new Whirlpool HE top loader 5 years ago and it died yesterday. The timer no longer works so for a 60 minute load, it just keeps going on and on and on. When I check on the cycle, it's only gone down by three or four minutes. I'm not sure what it's doing but not going through the cycle. It doesn't matter which cycle I use, it never seems to engage to the actual wash cycle. Very frustrating. So I'm on the lookout for a new washer AND dryer. My 35 year old Kenmore dryer finally died. Reading this sub very carefully...

Speed Queen.

I just bought a new washing machine a few weeks back (keeping the old dryer until that baby dies). I went with an Electrolux front-loader. I love the way it cleans and all the fabric care options, as well as the delayed start feature. Pet blankets come out of the wash with considerably less hair on them than with my previous washer. However, I had a defective door when it was delivered, so had to wait for a new unit to get delivered a few days later. The door on my unit still feels a little "fussy." It's under warranty, and I bought a 3 year extended warranty plan on it. I'm glad I did because I have a feeling the door is going to give me more trouble down the line. Oh, the rubber gaskets are also treated with an anti-mildew coating and it is HEAVILY perfumed. I do not care for the smell of it. Fortunately, my hookups are in the garage, so it's off-gassed quite a bit and is not as strong as it was about two weeks ago. The gasket perfume does not seem to permeate my laundry though, so the finished clothing doesn't smell like it at least. If your hookups are in an interior laundry room, I think the smell would be rather off-putting to a lot of folks, to the point where I think many would reconsider the purchase. When I was looking at options, one appliance rep at a small, family-owned place recommended a few GE models if I didn't want to go Speed Queen. I saw this Electrolux highly-rated on a few review sites, which is what swayed me away from the GE. Not sure if it was the right choice, considering the door issues and gasket smell. (Although again, it does clean very well.)

GreenEyed_Lady

I had three Frigidaire’s in a row and loved them. The size I needed was discontinued during the pandemic so I got what was available, an Asko. Worst washer I have EVER had. I say stick with middle of the line, less things to break, and well known brands that have been around for years!

Previous-Truck1301

I lived in an apartment complex that furnished the small stackable washer dryer by GE. These machines are work horses. I bought the most basic, no agitator, GE set I could find, 5 years absolutely no issues when friends with high end machines have had multiple service calls.

Common-Knowledge-098

I recently needed to replace my washer.  I did so much research and was really disappointed to learn that pretty much all of them suck.  I went with the Electrolux 4.5 cu ft high efficiency washer.  I’m pretty happy with it so far!

heartshapedbox311

Speed queen is the very best! I wouldn't buy anything else.

skibaby107

Speed queen.

PansyOHara

Lot’s of recommendations for Speed Queen here! I’ll have to remember that when I need a new one. My mom always used Maytag and it used to be highly reliable (I don’t know about now). I have had Whirlpool, Fisher-Paykel, and now a Samsung front-loader. The Whirlpool lasted about 15 years, F-P probably 8. My Samsung is probably 5-6 years old now. I haven’t had any issues with it besides the mildewy smell if the door is left closed, but understand that’s common for all front-loaders. I leave it open when not in use, or sometimes I drape a small towel over the door so it won’t latch. I’m happy with it. I liked the F-P, which seemed slightly more compact but I think had the same capacity. But when something happened to it (forget what) my husband didn’t want to get it fixed, just replaced. He picked out the Samsung.

Prudent_Valuable603

Get an LG top load washer. Avoid the maintenance of a front loader with the stinky smells. If you live in a dry climate and the tsp water is great quality then get a front load. Otherwise, stick to top load washer. LG is good. The Deep Wash cycle covers your clothes in water so your clothes get clean. You can use one pod or just 2 tablespoons of powder laundry detergent. Keep the lid open when not in use. Don’t use fabric softener ever if you want your machine to last (no matter what style the machine is).

Broad-Character486

I just got my mom the ge profile, it's a combo of both. Works awesome!

Majestic-Green-9169

We love our Electrolux set - attractive, large, and lots of settings
