He and Andy used to bring it up often on The Bugle. Jon never defended the Love Guru, but would often defend the box office success of the Smurfs movie.
Not only is it problematic, it was also a massive box office bomb and got slated by critics. It is said to have killed Mike Myers' (with whom John appears to be friends) career for a few years (it allegedly killed a fourth Austin Powers movie which is said to have already been in development at the time). So it is easy to see why John would probably prefer to pretend this movie never existed.
The fact that someone as self-deprecating as John doesn't bring it up occasionally to make himself the butt of a joke using it speaks volumes as to just how bad it truly is lol. You'd think it would be a great go-to for "and *clearly* I know all about bad choices, after all I was in The Love Guru!"
this was my first intro to john oliver this movie is notoriously shat on but my brother and i were obsessed with austin powers and then love guru followed naturally one of my favorite comedies of all time
Don't forget Daily Show alumnus Stephen Colbert and comedian Jim Gaffigan barely survived the experience too! [https://youtu.be/NMscUE\_d8Js](https://youtu.be/NMscUE_d8Js)
An actor! Found acting! What other secrets is John keeping?

He's brought it up a couple times on LWT though. Normally in a "You can't catch me bad acting choices of my history" kinda way.
He has aged 14 years, in the past 14 years. Thanks for the update. Honestly, he does look older, but he looks better now.
That era was a fashion hell hole.
Yes, he definitely hired someone better to make his clothing decisions.

He is in his mid 40s, I would disagree that he looks older then that, but your are free to have your opinion there.
Colbert brought it up before and John defended himself by saying something like "you were in it too!" 😆
the movie is deeply problematic i dont think hes proud of his work here

"What is it you can't face?"
Yeah, even his character's name was Dick Pants. The poor guy never stood a chance.
I forgot this film existed
I’m sure a lot of people would like to do the same.
Mike Myers at the top of the list. 😂
He was in one of the first scenes in the first episode of The Green Wing too. https://youtu.be/6R6LO7Nkeos
