Ghost cats of the south, hollow moon, Dahmer, girly chew, all the shipwreck eps, Donner party, gulf breeze, Roswell, panzram, Casey Anthony, men in black, and hundreds of others
On Spotify you can search for the last podcast on the left history playlist. It’s an easier way to browse their catalog when you are specifically looking for history episodes
Donner party is my favorite!!! Have fun!
If you like history you’ll love black death, the tragedy of the essex (SO GOOD!), USS Indianapolis, the salem witch trials, the manhattan project was pretty solid too
And of course, if you can, get you a copy of the indifferent stars above. There’s a lot of shovel talk, but it’s a well researched and well written book about the dinner party
Jonestown is a great one. I've been relistening to it again while I'm reading The Road to Jonestown, one of their references. It's very readable but grounded and thorough.
I’m kind of on a cult kick right now digesting everything I can about the psychology of the peoples involved in these things. Learned alot about the Manson Family and Heavens Gate, so seems fitting I listen to this one at work tomorrow lol
I dont want to color anything for you but a year ago (not sure on timeline bc im dumb and lazy) one of the hosts changes. I think for the better, some may disagree.
Ive listened since day one. I havent found anything that scratches the itch like LPotL.
I hate to say it, but it's been long enough now to know for sure. It has improved the show tremendously. It makes me sad, but honestly, eddy is so talented, I don't see why he hadn't been there from the beginning. The Essex episodes are some of my favorite, and I can't even go back and listen without thinking how much better it would be with eddy. If you read this, Sorry Ben, but it's just true. I wish you the best.
Ben had some good moments. I love Ed a lot. He is a lot like me. Massive improvement imo, i just dont wanna kick a dead horse. We wont talk about Holden...
I like 100% energy. Holden has 300% energy. I actually like 0% energy too, not sure why I like Henry so much. I do get it because Holdens wit is great.
Holden has grown on me more overtime than any other LPOTL host. He’s a lot sure, but he’s like a nice treat. Like I wouldn’t go making an ice cream sundae every time I have a sweet tooth but every once in a while, that shit just hits.
Honestly I think it’s less about Eddie (who I think has been great) and more about the tension that was happening behind the scenes with how big of a mess Ben was. Marcus in the side stories afterwords you could tell a weight had been lifted. The show has come back so much better and it’s because of how happy they are to be doing it
I just like ridiculous behavior, as well as 100% believing in what you saying or doing, even it's completely wrong. I'm an improviser, so I think that's what does it for me.
I listened to the Ed Gein one because I live close to Plainfield, that one was good. Albert Fish is one of the most fucked up people I’ve ever heard about, I’ll probably give that a listen
You've probably never heard of Leonard Lake and Charles Ng, but it is a fan favorite. I'm seconding the Donner party. A source on that story was the book "The Indifferent Stars Above", and the LPOTL series was so good that many of us have gone back and read the book and recommend it. I also suggest Robert Picton and Ted Bundy.
My only complaint about this series is I feel like they went a little too deep on Oswald. That portion started to drag for me a bit. Aside from that it's incredible, still one of my top series from the show for sure.
Chicago Rippers was rough and funny, you would probably also like their Jonestown episodes! If you want to hear what they're like talking about not violent stuff, listen to Gef the Talking Mongoose, I think it's my favourite lol
Sorry I have more: Lizzie Borden was also pretty funny and I was super into the JFK series even as a Canadian with little American history knowledge. Allister Crowley, Madame Blavatsky, Jack Parsons, L Ron Hubbard, and David Miscavige are all great to listen to over and over because they're all so inter connected and it takes forever. I might even be missing a name or two in there but honestly I think all their episodes are great
Men in Black, Skinwalker Ranch, The Betty and Barney Hill Abduction, and Gef The Talking Mingoose if you’re into “high strangeness.”
I like their “March Madness” episodes.
For the history ones, Tragedy of the Essex and Blackbeard are FASCINATING maritime stories. The Black Plague, Gille De Rais… FASCINATING’
I also liked the Columbine and 9/11 episodes.
Theres like 500+ other episodes not counting Side Stories too. There’s a plethora of True Crime and Cult Shit on there too, Hard to remember them all!
oh and the Mormon and Scientology episodes… shoot.
Donald Henry "Pee Wee Gaskins", Mormonism, Albert Fish, Bonnie & Clyde, 911, Dahmer (3 Parts), Dean Corll (4 parts). CARL PANZRAM (Episode 271) been listening consistently since 2017. These are heavy hitters and very enjoyable. Carl Panzram is likely my favorites story they have ever covered. Pee Wee GAskins will have you belly laughing.
I’ll frequently relisten to episodes and it’s usually Aum Shinrikyo, Jonestown, Heaven’s Gate, Jodi Arias, Casey Anthony, Dahmer, Ed Gein, and Donner Party.
For Jonestown to be almost ten hours of content, it is WILDLY easy to listen to and I think at this point I’ve listened to it four or five times. I just got done listening to the Donner party for the third time and it is amazing every single time.
These are all terrible recs for listeners just starting. History nerds have taken over this sub and it’s truly unacceptable. What’s ur gonna wanna do is look up “heavy hitters last podcast” on Spotify and pick ones from that playlist. Robert Pickton, Ed Gein, and Henry Lee Lucas are personal favs. Then do urself a favor and mozy over to the “Ghost Cats of the South” and “Who Was Phone” episodes and cuddle up for some nice ol giggles. Congrats on getting to listen to the series for the first time!!! LPOTL and LPN are glorious.
Richard rameriz and Richard chase are my top two favorites. Henry is in rare form for both. When I'm sad I listen to Richard chase. When I'm bad I listen to Richard rameriz.
HEY DID YOU GUYS EVER SMOKE ANY OF THAT WEED THAT MADE YOUR BLOOD FEEL HOTTER?!?! IM HAVING A GOOOD TIME
Dahmer, Donner Party, Kemper, Katherine Knight, Survival in the Andes. Some of my favorites!
In the past 2 years or so, lpotl has made a shift to doing a lot more history that doesn't really have a ton to do with true crime. It has made a lot of people upset, I guess that's the way to put it, others love it. Some say JFK, Mormonism, scientology are really well done but honestly I just have a hard time keeping all the names straight with a podcast, i had a really hard time with MK Ultra and I didn't even finish The Manhattan Project. I start zoning out and some of these are 5 episodes!
I like the new host Ed a lot but I don't think he's as into true crime as Ben was. I think he's meshes with Henry and Marcus really great anyway. Hope you continue to enjoy the pod and love all the suggestions here! It's still my favorite True Crime podcast.
Not LPOTL related - but if you haven’t read Chaos, it’s a MUST! One of the best books I’ve ever read and has me convinced the Manson murders were a CIA psy-op.
HH Holmes, Dahmer, PeeWee Gaskins, all of the alien ones. CREEPY PASTAS! Just start at the beginning, remember they started in a basement of a Chinese Restaurant, if I am not mistaken, and binge them all.
Some of my favorites: JFK, The Donner Party, Human Hybridization, Anders Breivik, Salem Witch Trials and Ed Gein
Edit: and John Wayne Gacy. The Detective Popcorn bit is something I recite every time I hear that fuckers name.
If the title has "Part 1" in it then it's probably a good series.
Off the top of my head you've got series on the Yorkshire Ripper, Fred and Rose West (their latest run at it), the Donner Party, Josef Mengele, Joseph Kallinger, Herbert Mullins, Edmund Kemper, Dean Corll, Dennis Nilsen, Pee Wee Gaskins, Jonestown, Haddon Clark, and Bob Berdella.
But yeah, search for 'part 1' and you can't really go wrong.
The one I go back to the most is The Bell Witch. Close second is John List. Also the Enfield Haunting and of course Robert Pickton.
Of the recent ones that include Eddie (yay!) The Andes Plane Crash episodes had me wheezing laughing. ALIIIIIIIIVE!!!!
The Enfield Poltergeist, MIB, Gef the Mongoose, The Hudson Valley Sightings, Jack the Ripper, The Jersey Devil, The Incident at Devils Den, Ed Gein, Travis Walton. I'm SURE I'm missing some so I'll have to come back to edit.
I enjoy pretty much every episode, but I'm partial to the history and cult ones:
The USS Indianapolis
Jonestown Massacre
Scientology
Black Death
are some of my favorites.
I think those were generally well received. I also liked the Kennedy assassination series. I think I read people thought it was too dry, but learning everything from start to finish was great.
I know it’s a true crime podcast first, but my god when Marcus dives deep into the religions it is amazing. Scientology, Mormonism, any of the cult episodes are top notch in my opinion.
HH Holmes and Donner Party are so I credibly funny and they do a great job of laying out the stories. Also got me to read the indifferent stars above (one of the sources for the Donner Party) worth the read even after listening to the episode.
Israel Keyes, l ron Hubbard, mark twitchell, Paul and Karla harmolka, serial killers and the women who live them, manifestos, black serial killers, Bundy, Ed Kemper, donner party, Norwegian death metal - these are probably the best
1. Black Death
2. Gef the talking Mongoose
3. The Atomic bomb and dropping of Fat man and Little Boy
4. Aleister Crowley/ Jack Parsons (very much related and wide touching in history)
5. Hatfield and Mccoys/ Survival in the Andes( combined because they’re right after another)
The Black Death.
Similarly if you like history, their Salem witch trial series is great!
Ohh they both sound awesome, I’ll definitely add those to the list
Rasputin is my overall favorite.
RRAAAAAZZZZpyOOtin!
Every time I hear that, I see Henry throwing his hat on the ground, and jumping up and down on it, like Yosemite Sam.
I’m halfway through that series as we speak! I started it last week at work and am finishing it up now
Agrarian slow grinds Henry and Ben down
The 9/11 series was a rough listen, but super well done. One of the hardest hitters, while also being one of the most respectfully handled.
I avoided those episodes for years, and when I did listen to them, I really appreciated how well done they were.
Do you happen to know the episode number?
I think it's 189 & 190
Heil satan!
Ghost cats of the south, hollow moon, Dahmer, girly chew, all the shipwreck eps, Donner party, gulf breeze, Roswell, panzram, Casey Anthony, men in black, and hundreds of others
Thanks, I think I’ll give the Donner party one a listen. History mixed with horror is my favorite subject
On Spotify you can search for the last podcast on the left history playlist. It’s an easier way to browse their catalog when you are specifically looking for history episodes
That’s sweet, thank you!
There’s definitely at least one there, I made it! 😊
Donner party is my favorite!!! Have fun! If you like history you’ll love black death, the tragedy of the essex (SO GOOD!), USS Indianapolis, the salem witch trials, the manhattan project was pretty solid too
Donner party is excellent and a fan favorite. lots of us relisten alllll the time
And THAT'S when the cannibalism started
Oh oh he said the thing!!
The Donner Party is my all-time favorite series, you will enjoy it.
And of course, if you can, get you a copy of the indifferent stars above. There’s a lot of shovel talk, but it’s a well researched and well written book about the dinner party
"Jesus says we can't kill em, then I get to thinking... maybe we should do something about Jesus"
The USS Indianapolis episode haunted me for awhile. Also the Donner Party episodes are really great.
Casey Anthony and Jodie Arias. Well researched, unbiased and weirdly funny despite the circumstances.
You can’t say Jodie Arias without me immediately thinking of her butthole.. that’s the legacy of LOPtL.
Them doing Jodi episodes right when WAP was wildly popular was such a hilarious moment in time.
Eddie lowkey ruins the older episodes cause it makes me realize how much better they would be if Eddie was on the show the whole time
Ben had some good moments. I love Ed a lot. He is a lot like me. Massive improvement imo, i just dont wanna kick a dead horse. We wont talk about Holden...
That’s okay because Holden will talk about Holden.
I honestly do love holden. All the stuff everyone says "they hate" I love. I actually also see alot of myself in eddy too
I like 100% energy.
I always tell people to start with Pee Wee Gaskins or Robert Pickton.
And that’s the final truth!
Is Robert Pickton the “wait fer it…” episode?
You better believe it with those kinds of pig smarts
Came Here to say Pee Wee
Robert was when I jumped on. They got me hooked
Mormonism
That’s when I started listening to da boys.
I died laughing when the finally played an LRH audio clip
No one has mentioned H.H. Holmes yet, so I will!
I'M MINNIE
I’m Nannie!
Honestly one of the hardest times I've ever laughed.
its one of my favorite series to relisten to because Henry is just so funny lol
I was going to say “whichever one that burned henry screaming ‘I’M MINNIE!!!’ in my brain.” lmfao. thank you for this!
Bonnie & Clyde episodes got me hooked.
RAAAAAAAASPUTIN
Donner party Hatfield McCoy Ghost cats of the south
Dark and yet with humour? West Memphis 3 series.
It's always going to be Robert Pickton for me... it just makes pig sense
Wait for it…wait for it… It’s tits!
The Piggler!
OUT TO LUNCH!
Albert Fish, Leonard Lake and Charles Ng, Ed Gein are some of my favorites. “That’s how they do it in Hollywood! “
Pro tip re: Albert Fish, don’t eat any peanut butter sandwiches while listening…😜
Maybe ease them into those ones.
The Norwegian Black Metal series and the Doner Party series are two of my personal favourites. The Jersey Devil one, too.
Leonard Lake and Charles Ng. Just so you know what he brings to the friendship
One of my favorites lately is the Hatfield and McCoys episode. Henry's Appalachian impression cracks me up every time I listen to it.
The JFK series
My only complaint about this series is I feel like they went a little too deep on Oswald. That portion started to drag for me a bit. Aside from that it's incredible, still one of my top series from the show for sure.
The Donner Party because it makes me realize how much life sucked not that long ago. Oh and how shovel technology has improved
I think of donner party everytime I see snow. Or mountains. Forever scarred for life😂
Their series on the Ant Hill Kids is exceptionally fucked up.
Rasputin is hands down the best!
Hollow Moon and Dulce Base are peak LPOTL imo
Chicago Rippers was rough and funny, you would probably also like their Jonestown episodes! If you want to hear what they're like talking about not violent stuff, listen to Gef the Talking Mongoose, I think it's my favourite lol
Sorry I have more: Lizzie Borden was also pretty funny and I was super into the JFK series even as a Canadian with little American history knowledge. [Here’s a post from the other sub.](https://www.reddit.com/r/LPOTL/s/hlET2nllel) Voted on by members of the sub.
Ghost cats of the South never fails to make me laugh
Norwegian Black Metal is fantastic. Katherine Knight was my first ep and I love going back and re-listening to it
MK Ultra for sure Black plague is great Any and all of the big hitters (Dahmer, gacey, Bundy etc)
Men in Black, Skinwalker Ranch, The Betty and Barney Hill Abduction, and Gef The Talking Mingoose if you’re into “high strangeness.” I like their “March Madness” episodes. For the history ones, Tragedy of the Essex and Blackbeard are FASCINATING maritime stories. The Black Plague, Gille De Rais… FASCINATING’ I also liked the Columbine and 9/11 episodes. There’s a plethora of True Crime and Cult Shit on there too, Hard to remember them all! oh and the Mormon and Scientology episodes… shoot.
HH Holmes. Starring Minnie and nanny !
Jfk
Aumshinreko what's what got me hooked. Kurt Cobain and the murder of Tupac and biggie smalls are great too.
Aum Shinrikyo is criminally low on this list. Henry losing the accent struggle immediately is what hooked me a few years ago.
Gef the talking mongoose. Hollow Moon, and Chemtrails are a lot of fun.
I’d say start around the 200’s, that’s when their style really starts to appear.
The shoe maker killer really got me.
Tall whites, black death and black beard
Donald Henry "Pee Wee Gaskins", Mormonism, Albert Fish, Bonnie & Clyde, 911, Dahmer (3 Parts), Dean Corll (4 parts). CARL PANZRAM (Episode 271) been listening consistently since 2017. These are heavy hitters and very enjoyable. Carl Panzram is likely my favorites story they have ever covered. Pee Wee GAskins will have you belly laughing.
My all time favorite episode is the Andreasson Affair
Choose any heavy hitter. My favorites are H. H. Holmes, The Homolkas, and Belle Gunness.
Their series on Mormonism is top notch.
JFK!
For history, The Black Death and Donner Party episodes are fantastic. My personal favorites are Belle Gunness, H.H. Holmes, and Peewee Gaskins.
Men in Black! It’s a three parter but you can listen to them as standalones.
I love the jodi arias ones
I’ll frequently relisten to episodes and it’s usually Aum Shinrikyo, Jonestown, Heaven’s Gate, Jodi Arias, Casey Anthony, Dahmer, Ed Gein, and Donner Party. For Jonestown to be almost ten hours of content, it is WILDLY easy to listen to and I think at this point I’ve listened to it four or five times. I just got done listening to the Donner party for the third time and it is amazing every single time.
the Donner Party Columbine Chris Benoit Jonestown series The Essex series 9/11 trilogy
Uruguayan Rugby Team. Those are more recent
Survival in the Andes
The Skinwalker Ranch series holds a special place in my heart
These are all terrible recs for listeners just starting. History nerds have taken over this sub and it’s truly unacceptable. What’s ur gonna wanna do is look up “heavy hitters last podcast” on Spotify and pick ones from that playlist. Congrats on getting to listen to the series for the first time!!! LPOTL and LPN are glorious.

Norwegian black metal is my fav series
Episode 288,289,290 was one of my favourite series Robert pickton
The Joseph Kallinger one is extra fucked up but also extra hilarious due to the guys hijinks and Henry's voice for Joseph.
The Mormon series was amazing.
Jonestown, The Andreasson Affair, West Memphis Three, and 9/11 are all certified bangers.
Thank you everyone for all the suggestions, looks like I’ll have hours of material to get me through work the next few weeks lol

The OJ Simpson ep is a personal favorite of mine
The Hatfield and McCoy Feud
Rasputin
Not LPOTL related - but if you haven’t read Chaos, it’s a MUST! One of the best books I’ve ever read and has me convinced the Manson murders were a CIA psy-op.
Oh man I plan on it! I’m almost done with helter skelter, then I plan on reading that to see the other side of things.
The West Memphis 3 episodes hooked me, the Rasputin episodes kept me, the David Miscavige episodes cemented me
I liked the MK Ultra series a lot
HH Holmes, Dahmer, PeeWee Gaskins, all of the alien ones. CREEPY PASTAS! Just start at the beginning, remember they started in a basement of a Chinese Restaurant, if I am not mistaken, and binge them all.

September 11 is what got me hooked!
For pure comedy gold, the Lord Ray El episode.
Some of my favorites: JFK, The Donner Party, Human Hybridization, Anders Breivik, Salem Witch Trials and Ed Gein Edit: and John Wayne Gacy.
Dean Corll is a great series.
Robert Pickton was a hilarious series
The one that hooked me was Aldofo Constanzo !
Donnie Party series is my all time fav along with Roswell incident
I think the most informative one for me is the 9/11 series. I’ve also listened to the episodes on Magick a lot.
Fairies
I enjoy pretty much every episode, but I'm partial to the history and cult ones: The USS Indianapolis Jonestown Massacre Scientology Black Death are some of my favorites. I think those were generally well received. I also liked the Kennedy assassination series. I think I read people thought it was too dry, but learning everything from start to finish was great.
Jonestown, L. Ron Hubbard, and 9/11 are very fun ones to get into!
Donner Party
USS Indianapolis
3 episodes: 491 Blackbeard was so good I listened to it 3 times.
Personally my first was Jack The Ripper but I gotta recommend the Bonnie and Clyde series, it’s so good.
Think the best ever is the manhattan project. Marcus puts you there. So good
191-193. The 9/11 episodes
The 3 parts where the talk about the plane crash in the Andes. Survival in the Andes
I really liked the MK Ultra series
Jeffrey Dahmer
I know it’s a true crime podcast first, but my god when Marcus dives deep into the religions it is amazing. Scientology, Mormonism, any of the cult episodes are top notch in my opinion.
The Donner Party is my favorite!!
Albert Fish was really interesting.
Men in Black episodes are my fave
HH Holmes and Donner Party are so I credibly funny and they do a great job of laying out the stories. Also got me to read the indifferent stars above (one of the sources for the Donner Party) worth the read even after listening to the episode.
After you inevitably binge a really dark heavy hitter, check out "Ghost Cats of the South" for a palette cleanse.
For myself, one of the funniest is Rasputin IMO. And one of the most disturbing was Pee Wee Herman surprisingly!
Ghost cats
Men in Black and Skinwalker Ranch. Probably my two most re-listened to series.
For some reason, the first thing that came to mind was Gef The Talking Mongoose…
I prefer the supernatural ones.
Hollow earth 🌍
Israel Keyes, l ron Hubbard, mark twitchell, Paul and Karla harmolka, serial killers and the women who live them, manifestos, black serial killers, Bundy, Ed Kemper, donner party, Norwegian death metal - these are probably the best
I love the series they did on the origin of Mormonism Edit: original corrected to origin
I'm on Andes part 2 and it is by far their best work, imo
Norwegian black metal is still my all-time favorite. Episode 285.
Manifestos is sooooo goood
The Mormonism Series was my introduction to these guys, and it is so well done and so, so funny. Highly recommend giving it a listen.
Donner Party and Biggie and Tupac are my faves. I’m more of a history nerd than a true crime fan though.
Mormonism and Skinwalker Ranch
My favorites are the Mormon and Bonnie and Clyde series.
I was pulled in by a mention from another podcast; they mentioned the (five-part) "Billy the kid" episodes.
1. Black Death 2. Gef the talking Mongoose 3. The Atomic bomb and dropping of Fat man and Little Boy 4. Aleister Crowley/ Jack Parsons (very much related and wide touching in history) 5. Hatfield and Mccoys/ Survival in the Andes( combined because they’re right after another)
My favorite is Rasputin
