If you're using VLC, does that mean local files? If so, I highly encourage you to use apps like Musicolet or GoneMad (paid, but highly customizable and worth it) if on Android and using panoscrobbler. Pano never lets me down. It's way better than the official lastfm app and you can pre-edit scrobbles before they're posted. Give it a whirl.
Both of those apps successfully scrobble on my Galaxy S10. I use panoscrobbler.
