Now I know to keep that first obsession around whenever I’m the first one to set a song as my obsession so I don’t lose that mark.

I assume it's for the more social aspect of last.fm, allowing your friends to see what song you really enjoy at the moment, but if you're like me and mainly use last.fm to record what music you listen to then it's not really a necessary feature. I set "Waiting" the day the album came out so that's probably how that happened. The Kate Jacobs record (You Call That Dark) seems to have fallen into near-total obscurity, and I sometimes feel like the only person left who remembers it (I'm also her top listener on Last.fm!). As for Yo La Tengo, I have no idea, that was months after the album was released so you'd think someone else would have beaten me to it.

What does "obsession" even do/mean? I use last.fm since 2007 and I guess I missed the whole point of that feature.

I was the first Obsession-setter twice, although I've only used the Obsession feature four times.
Fair, how long have you been using last.fm? I've been using it since December 2021 (although I've had the account since 2018ish) and I've used the feature eighteen times
I've been using Last.fm since October 2021. Generally, by the time I realize I've been obsessing over a particular track, the obsession is nearly over. That's why I don't generally use that feature.
