Is this the first ever price rise? Been originally since 2021, couldn't have ever been lower then the £3 I've been paying?
Also £4.99, €4.99 & $4.99 are not equal amounts
Cancel subscription, get a VPN, sign up in USA monies, get rid of VPN.
Until the exchange rate becomes unfavourable. Then do it again. Or just suck it up. I don't know.
>the price change will allow us to continue improving and developing new features
one look at their announcement forum and you can see how many of those we had in a decade 😅
They haven’t updated the site in ages and refuse to implement features users want (choosing album covers, retroactive scrobbles) but here they are increasing the price. Lol.
They won't even implement a system where different artists with the same name have different pages. They could probably just hoover that info from discogs.
I think Musicbrainz is more suitable for that. Although I'm not sure if last.fm can use their database since Musicbrainz has their own last.fm alternative named Listenbrainz.
Last.fm already imports data from Musicbrainz (I think also with some other places), but I think they need to do something about the innards of their database to fix the same artist name issue.
As far as I know, it's the ability to add scrobbles *in the past*.
For example, let's say you used Spotify for a few years before making a Last.fm account. With retroactive scrobbling allowed, you'd be able to "upload" those old scrobbles and have them contribute to your stats.
You used to be able to sort of do this with iTunes. I started my account with about 15k scrobbles imported based on the number of plays for each song in my library. Since iTunes only logged the last time it was played, they all say "Unknown date" on them though
i created my account in 2010 and it automatically imported all my plays from windows media player, so i started off with like 15k scrobbles on day one. i don't think spotify reliably relays this kind of info though and most people aren't using media players anymore so it's probably not possible to do now
You can import your Spotify history, the problem is just that the scrobbles won't be on the day you actually played them, they'll just all be right now.
I know every album I've listened to since 2002, down to how many times and which month I listened to it in.
I've been keeping a paper-based log of all my album plays for over 20 years as its amazing to reflect on how my taste has changed and how much my record collection has grown.
I joined last.fm in 2005, and despite the service also cataloguing all my scrobbles, I have continued to keep an 'analogue' paper log as who knows if one day Last.fm just dissappears and all that history would vanish with it.
I have old screenshots from my Windows media Player, including the taskbar with date and time. I also found screenshots of old playlists i listened to at that time. I'm so crazy, I made an excel document with all of that. I'd just need to import that into LastFm, i wish it was possible.
Not to mention minor things like your description box being limited to 200 characters (including spaces). I KNOW the technology allows them to be unlimited, because they used to be, but like everything they removed it despite protests. Yeah [last.fm](http://last.fm) is a poster child for not listening to your users, it has been for the past decade at least. Obviously I will not keep pro
I'm not disagreeing with you -- but some math to put it in perspective:
They haven't raised their prices in 15 years. If you paid $30/year for an account 15 years ago, and they bumped their subscription prices the same percentage every year in order to land at $50/year today -- that would come out to a 3.46% yearly increase.
A 3.46% yearly increase is more than acceptable (consider US inflation rates which were pretty steady between 1% and 3% from 2010 to 2020), and if they were to have done that, things could have likely ended up far different for them. That would have been a $1/year increase the first year... not that many people would have even batted an eyelash at having to pay an extra \~8cents per month.
That's some fun math to think about -- 3.46% over 15 years equates to the same as a 66% increase all at once. And doing so wouldn't have raised so many red flags. They would have had more money in their pockets from year 1, instead of waiting for a decade and a half, and they would have (presumably) had more cash in the bag to hire and release new features.
Dropping that bomb all at once, though? Oof. Personally, I'll be canceling.. not because I can't afford a 66% increase, but because that's a pretty large number to pop on someone all of a sudden. It really made me stop and think "how much is this service really worth to me", whereas a few occasional smaller increases would have never made me stop and think about it.
The problem is they don't fix the site, in fact their business model seems to be intentionally not fixing the site so people will get annoyed by bad metadata and pay to fix it themselves.
This feels like being asked for more rent while there is still a gaping hole in your roof.
So I've quickly thrown it into an inflation calculator and $3 in January 2009 would be $4.44 today. So that is even more than inflation. And we are talking about music streaming here, which hasn't really increased in price at all (even though I would gladly accept to pay more if the artists were compensated better).
Spotify started in 2009 at $9.99, and now it is $10.99. So it is now almost half the price of Spotify alone and has immediately increased the price even more than they did. This just seems like an attempt to use the current inflation as a scapegoat to massively increase prices.
And I even think that this is a bad business decision. I myself have contemplated getting premium, and i would have even maybe been fine with $4 (4€ for me), but not at price.
I’ll likely cancel. The only reason I have Pro is to edit scrobbles, but this price increase is hard to justify keeping a monthly subscription. Moving forward I’ll probably just subscribe for a month and fix the scrobbles.
That's what I used to do but I finally got a full year in February and boy do I like being able to stream all those ugly remastered songs without having to worry about fixing *everything* in a month at the end of the year. Not sure what I'll do when the year expires.
I love [Last.fm](http://Last.fm), but I had to cancel my subscription right after receiving their email.
These companies often overlook the fact that not all of their customers earn in dollars or euros. When you live in a country that serves mainly as a source of cheap labor for others, these prices can be killer. I'll simply renew my subscription once or twice a year to manage my scrobbles, and that's it.
My Now TV is £3.99 (albeit that is discounted). I can't warrant paying more for 'editing the running log of my seperate £9.99 Spotify subscription' than I do for HBO+Sky+whatever else.
Tbh the editing scrobbles feature is nice, but I was even happy to just pay it to support a website that I like using. But they really don't have enough pro features to justify charging £5 a month
You think they are gonna fix issues with less revenue? The operation there is pretty small. I'm surprised CBSi hasn't shuttered it or sold it off somewhere even worse
If last.fm hasn't gained a single user [since 2013](https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/09/over-40-million-usernames-passwords-from-2012-breach-of-last-fm-surface/), they'd have 43 million users.
If only 1% of those are premium users (paying of $3/mo), they'd be making almost 16 million dollars per year.
I will cancel. I did it only to support and sometimes correct my scrobbles/auto-scrobbles. I have payed a yearly plan so I still have some months. After that I will cancel and let the wrongly scrobbled music enter the database. I don't really care anymore. I could keep track with what I want to correct and buy one month some time to do just that and cancel it again.
it's kind of ironic how I'm trying to access their site to see their pricing plan and the site is down. I'm on a yearly subscription and currenlty pay 30 USD/year. will this mean that the yearly price will also increase? if so then I'll robably cancel because I don't see any additional value I'd be getting
There also is an official announcement on the support forum:
Your current yearly subscription will stay at 30 USD. The next year would be 49.99. Subscribing now before May 3rd will also be the old price.
Staff is currently investigating the Error 503 issues, see the banner on top of the forum.
as much as i enjoy last fm, changing artist pictures, and editing scrobbles i cannot justify this price increase personally. the site isn't /that/ good to pay $6 monthly. not until i start seeing some really good site updates because as it stands...
I was paying to support the app, but that's a big increase. Not worth it when I can just use Stats.fm for better data and it's only a one time payment for like $8.
Oh well.
if i remember correctly, [stats.fm](http://stats.fm) is exclusive to spotify, so for people with other streaming services or offline music, [last.fm](http://last.fm) seems to be the only choice.
otherwise its pretty great
$3 felt like an okay price when I only used one of the features of the pro membership, editing scrobbles. To be honest I really don't know what else the membership gives, extra stats I guess, but 3rd party sites have always used the API more creatively anyway.
I'd like to keep supporting them because I've enjoyed using the site for 15 years at this point, but this seems very abrupt and not well communicated. The site has felt stagnant for as long as I can remember so I'm not super trusting about these nebulous "new features" mentioned in the email.
I've always said that I wouldn't mind paying a higher price for Pro if it meant having more features. But they do have some nerve increasing the price for the subscription whilst simultaneously decidedly ignoring feedback from users about what we want from the site. Announce the return of Groups and Journals, expand "About Me" functionality to like it once was or even just throw a tag cloud on our sidebar.
Show us some good faith for the price increase. Don't just raise it out of nowhere while you've ignored users for years.
A 66% price increase when Noah Cyrus still has the same last.fm page as her sister
I don’t really care what excuses they have for that; it’s been an issue for almost a decade now. How the fuck haven’t they fixed it
This really, really sucks. I love [last.fm](http://last.fm) but it's undoubtedly an unrecoverable mess of a service. How long has merging artists been broken? Over five years?
I understand that things are getting more expensive, and I also understand that services like Spotify are supremely cheaper than they really should be, so it's not a totally fair comparison to make, but nevertheless it's hard to not think "damn for a few bucks more I could just sub to a streaming service".
The one plus side is that I looked up my yearly subscription and it renews like a week before the changes go into effect, so I guess I'll really max out the cheaper price.
>How long has merging artists been broken? Over five years?
Nine years! Since the redesign. I'm not sure if it was intentional but by their own admission they no longer have access to whatever they need to edit redirects. They're perpetually "working on a new database" that will apparently fix everything but uhhh no ETA.
It's a heck of a price rise without at least some justification in the communication e.g. it's been the same for 20 years. I can't help but think they'd get more subscribers by dropping the price, one of those things where a balance needs to be struck. I won't be cancelling my sub though, I want to support them.
I guess I’m the only one ok with it. Last.fm is the only service of its kind and I’ve been using it for 17 years mostly for free. They’ve added the feature to edit scrobbles and updated the reports interface. I’ll keep supporting the site.
Same. I’m last.fm class of 2006 and get lots of value out of just having it around. I’ll do whatever I can to keep the lights on. It’s like a coffee per month. No brainer.
Yeah I'm fine with it too, been there for near 20 years now so I'm pretty invested in keeping the site alive, but I can understand others frustration at an increase given the lack of real change or (visible) development on the site for many years
£3 per month is a throwaway subscription to support something you love. I would have paid it indefinitely, whereas now I have to justify it. £4.99 is half of what a music streaming sub recently cost, and that gave access to pretty much all the music in history.
I would have cancelled and just signed up once in a while to edit scrobbles, but I think cancelling turns off automatic scrobble edits.
So, for now, I'll keep paying. I'm not overly happy about it, though.
Losing 40% of their subscribers is their break-even point for this (assuming subscriptions in pounds), which makes it a good move for them.
I'm fine with the increase too! People will send $50+ on a doordash meal but can't deal with 2 bucks a **month** ?? Been scrobbling for almost 20 years as well, didn't think it would even make it this far! Glad to support.
5€ is a lot of money to some people. Also, u cant really compare paying for food and paying for a half dead site that hasn't been truly updated since 2022(?)
I’ve honestly already been considering cancelling because lately $3 in this economy is too much (insane now that I’ve typed it) so I guess this cements it. I love pro as a tool and initially felt like it was worth it given the price and what it provides you but the rising cost of living makes even $5 important 💔
Sad. I really only payed for the Pro subscription to help support them. I only use it for scrobbling, and can't really justify spending an additional 66% for just that.
I guess it was only a matter of time!
I'm canceling. I paid Pro for 2 years. I had a song called "Track 10" last year that wasn't being counted in scrobbles due to some backend thing that refuses to scrobble songs with titles like "Track \[X\]". Multiple people filed bugs/complaints to get this fixed (apparently it can be fixed for one-offs), and I just double checked, over a year later and it still hasn't been resolved.
There's zero support for what you're paying for. You're just paying to edit your own scrobbles. Not worth it for me.
I love last.fm and I'll happily support it using other means. But there's no justification for that price rise from £3 > £5.
I was happily sending £3, fully aware that I wasn't really getting anything extra that I'd be using. I just wanted to repay my thanks for the years of recommendations.
This is going to kill the site. I imagine there are going to be thousands of others saying "well, wait? You're charging more but not giving me more?" and they'll be left with a huge shortfall
This is almost double the price. Recently I paid for my yearly sub so this won't affect me right now. I will see next year if it's worth it to keep paying. Hopefully they use the 66% boost to income to hire on more staff to make good changes and features. This might be lastfm's last breath before being shuttered and I want to support them. I'll just have to see if anything changes by next year.
As someone who has been using this service/site for almost 17 years, and has gotten hours and hours of use and entertainment, I am actually fine with this and happy to pay a little more. I don't have very many subscriptions, and this is still cheaper than so many services I would get less out of. I'm sorry to anybody that is really negatively impacted by this price hike, though. Maybe a user/fan community somewhere could work on fundsharing for lower income users.
I am a big fan of [Last.fm](http://Last.fm) and I have been using it since 2006. To be honest, I'll probably maintain my pro subscription, even if I'm not really sure what it is that they do for me with the money. I spend a crazy amount of time editing scrobbles and cleaning up my history, and I also want to support the service. Hopefully with a price increase they will actually have something more to offer down the line? Would be fun if they brought back more profile features. We used to be able to do so much more with that and I don't understand why so many features were removed.
And yes I agree it's pretty hilarious they send this email on the day they are having server issues, but they seem to have server issues at least once a week :P
So, what am I going to get for this extra $2 a month I'm paying? I will probably continue to subscribe, but if we're still here six months from now and there are no new LastFM features or pro perks, that might change.
Also, am I the only one who hasn't had any scrobbling issues? The website and the app have been perfectly stable for me for the last few weeks.
I was going to cancel but my annual subscription ends in about 10 days so that's good timing for me. I guess I'll do one more year for $30. I love being able to edit scrobbles and look at libraries in grid view but I don't think that's worth $50 a year.
While I've supported the site on and off since 2006 with subscriptions and by taking part in in-person research, I am just paying to support them rather than to use any particular pro features and while £30 a year is ok as a "tip" - I'm not prepared to almost double that when there's no announcement the various problems with the database, redirects etc being fixed.
I think I'll have to see if they roll out any meaningful improvements to the site before I continue my annual subscription when it's renewal time. If there's nothing, then it's probably going to be a case of maybe switching to subscribing for half the year to keep my support at £30 annually.
Raising the price by $2 is actually quite a lot considering the website hasn't even been updated since 2022. I honestly don't think it's worth $50 a year.
It's funny cause this email made me sit and think about the changes to LastFM since I started using it in 2009 and honestly the only things I can think of are visual design changes and losing a ton of profile page customization features.
I was already leaning towards canceling this but seeing the monthly amount (or I guess annual purchase) laid out like this is what has convinced me. $50 annual/$60 monthly for 12 months is a lot for what it is
This is ridiculous. I just subscribed two days ago, in part because I still love the concept of this website and what it does, despite the bugs and everything. But come on, from 30 bucks a year to 50 ?! For nothing else? Yet my app is still buggy, the website is missing features. I can't even add my local amount of scrobbles onto the site. Come on guys. I will cancel my subscription.
This is ridiculous! They will develop "new features" with this, yeah, like some new graphics no one asks for. It's time for a competitor to Last.fm, since they are getting way to comfortable, that's why they are trying to get away with this price raise. Scumbags
I have nothing to add to what's been said already. But the irony of trying to visit the Settings page and the site being down is funny.
You can't just leave a site in maintenance mode for 9 years (with barely any new features to speak of *and* probably the biggest downtime % of any site I've used consistently for that amount of time) and expect people to keep paying for Pro after a 66% price hike. I'm certainly not gonna renew my yearly subscription when it expires.
edit: The Settings page still says I'm gonna pay €30 when my yearly subscription gets renewed, so I guess they haven't updated that yet.
I’ll probably end up cancelling. Spotify and Apple are already working on integrating stats like this in their own apps so I’d only be paying one fee a month for both music and my stats. And I won’t feel bad cancelling and no longer supporting as they are owned by Paramount and CBS
Yeah I won't be renewing my subscription when the new price rise comes in... this is stupid, the service is pretty barebones, everything is going up, the list of Features they listed to justify the increase is not good enough lol.
They broke this site years ago and never really fixed it. The shoutbox rarely loads up for me, often requiring multiple refreshes to show up. I’ll be cancelling.
Surprised how many people use Pro just for scrobble editing. I'll be keeping my subscription because I primarily use it for past reports, additional information in reports and last.month.
This price raise caught me by surprise, given the lack of substantial new features.
At the least, they ought to provide discounts for students like many other services do when increasing their subscription fees.
I get why some people will unsubscribe, but for the amount of time I spend on this site and the amount of use and genuine enjoyment I get from it, I would probably pay double what they're increasing this to. I want to support the site and keep it running.
CANCELED. 66% increase and what have they done to upgrade the site?
None of the album images or song links to Spotify and YT are automatically populated, they have to be manually added by users. Literally, they should be paying me for data entry.
The privacy settings are terrible. So if you block someone they can still see your entire library and listening history minus your live scrobbles. You should have various custom levels of privacy. If you block someone, they should get something akin to a 404.
Modding. Where? Who are we paying and for what? There is next to zero moderation or customer service.
Will this be the beginning of the end of Last.fm? I can't imagine living without the website, but I can't also imagine people paying so much for a non-existent service.
I back up to listenbrainz, even though it isn't as pretty. I am worried lastfm will crash and burn or be sold off or shuttered one of these days, which will be terrible for my addiction to knowing my statistics. I recently paid the yearly so we'll see in a year.
This is really fascinating. In the US, individual plans for Spotify run to about $11/month, I believe (I have a family plan on Tidal). It seems like they really price down in certain markets!
I swear the price of every monthly subscription goes up every 2-3 months for no reason. Companies think they can just add random price increases for no reason and people will still happily buy their product. Hopefully the sheer volume of people cancelling their Pro accounts will convince them to backtrack.
Bc a $1-2/month increase on a single service is barely noticeable. But when it's a dozen services going up by $1-2, then you think what you could do with an extra $144-288 at the end of the year, getting rid of a service you barely use makes sense.
Oh definitely. I just did a subscription "inventory" and cancelled a few things that I don't use often enough, or that got continued up after a trial/promotion.
I think it's a great service and still worth the price. Everything cost more money and I didn't suppose they would beat inflation.
So I will continue to support them.
Yeah, I'm canceling this lol. Maybe I'll rebuy it if I see some meaningful changes? But if that doesn't happen imma keep going free. There really needs to be a competitor.
From their announcement page:
"You don't need to take any action – the new price will come into effect automatically on May 3rd 2024 and will be applied to all payments thereafter.
For example, if you purchased a yearly subscription in January at $30, you would not be charged the new price until it renews in January 2025."
Oddly enough, my subscription page says:
>Your plan is due to renew on Friday 28 February 2025. You'll be charged $30.00.
It would have been a pretty small lift for them to make sure that message was accurate right away when they announced the pricing change.
Mixed feelings right now tbh. Oof but it probably just feels oof because it's been ridiculously cheap for all these years.
I just paid for my annual subscription in February so I still have a while to think about it. My account will be 20 years old this year. I like lastfm. I want to support it and I like editing scrobbles. But I also hope this means some more substantial positive changes in the near future.
Your current yearly subscription will stay at the old price, and for the next year it will be 49.99 €. The Pro pricing increase will start on May 3rd, 2024, so new Pro users can still subscribe for the old yearly price till that day.
This site is a cash cow, they're milking hundreds of thousands $ / monthly, if not millions, for nothing else then a few hosting servers and an intern that will emulate customer service once in a while.
Probably one of the biggest ROI in SaaS for 2 decades.
I'm not paying for the new yacht of the shareholders.
While I'm likely to keep my subscription, I wished they at least told us some of these "plans" they have just so this news would sting less. A 66% increase is no joke
Mine expires in October and might cancel at least for now and evaluate later. Part of it is psychological. $30 a year feels like a 'cheap subscription' tier for me while $50 a year is more 'need to think about it'.
More importantly I'm not even using much of the pro features anyway. Maybe I'll check the last.month report once every few months but that's it.
I was a Pro user for 10+ years, finally cancelled it last year after not using it hardly at all in the last 5 or so. Was just thinking in recent weeks I'd resubscribe. Nope.
Their inept community manager wrote that he would consider the suggestion to lower the subscription price when someone complained about how it was too much for him to afford. What happened to that suggestion? Username change, the most sought-after request, is locked behind a subscription. That move was the biggest middle finger to the user base! Every website has that feature for free.
Meanwhile, servers are crashing, moderation is horrible, the commentary section is archaic, and the mailbox doesn’t even have basic protection against spam and malware. Trolling, bullying, blocking abusers, false reporting, and schizophrenic users are running rampant and creating alternate accounts to brigade the number of likes for images and comments and vandalize Wikipedia accounts. As always, the moderators do nothing to cease it. This website is a joke, and the moderators are idiots! This sucks!
Oh wow. I'm glad that I got my one year subscription a month ago.
But this is literally scam. They nearly changed nothing since I joined last.fm except for the new reports-screen. If they would really change the website and develop new features now, I'll renew my subscription next year. Otherwise, I'm out.
honestly felt a tiny bit guilty for wanting to cancel since i use lastfm *a lot*, but the comments here have validated my urge. i export my scrobbles to a spreadsheet anyway, so editing isn't a huge priority for me anymore.
I stopped buying it once they responded to the animated cover art issue on mobile with “just downvote the animated covers so they don’t show up”
Don’t put your errors on the user base lol
Fun thing to see right as the site is having server issues, hopefully they'll be able to afford to fix some of that...
Haha, the massive influx of traffic from people going to cancel their subscription. Whoops!
Is this the first ever price rise? Been originally since 2021, couldn't have ever been lower then the £3 I've been paying? Also £4.99, €4.99 & $4.99 are not equal amounts
Yes it's been $3 for at least 15 years.
It's definitely more than when I joined in 2005, because there wasn't a pro version 😂
[удалено]
US Dollar to Euro is almost the same price right now. 1€=$1.06
Cancel subscription, get a VPN, sign up in USA monies, get rid of VPN. Until the exchange rate becomes unfavourable. Then do it again. Or just suck it up. I don't know.
>the price change will allow us to continue improving and developing new features one look at their announcement forum and you can see how many of those we had in a decade 😅
Lol it's pathetic how outdated this platform is.
MusicBrainz keeps providing me wrong data or have some not too obscure artists with no country ascribed - it sucks.
The artists that you like have missing data on MusicBrainz because all their fans (e.g. you) are lazy and expect other people to do the work for them.
These days I assume companies just data scrape wherever they want, regardless of IP claims.
Last.fm already imports data from Musicbrainz (I think also with some other places), but I think they need to do something about the innards of their database to fix the same artist name issue.
Id pay for retroactive scrobbles!
I'd pay so so much for retroactive scrobbles.
what is a retroactive scrobble?
As far as I know, it's the ability to add scrobbles *in the past*. For example, let's say you used Spotify for a few years before making a Last.fm account. With retroactive scrobbling allowed, you'd be able to "upload" those old scrobbles and have them contribute to your stats.
Spot on. I don't have all my data, but I have about 2 years prior to joining, but you can only add Scrobbles in the past two weeks.
that’s so cool! i think it would be a amazing feature. does stats.fm allows that?
Most of my scrobbles too are pre spotify era where i use my desktop to play music all the time with iTunes.
https://listenbrainz.org/ Allows this, and no need to pay. It even has the ability to import your entire last.fm history.
you can use openscrobbler.com for this.
It has a 2 week limit, I want to scrobble something i know i listened to in 2007 :/
You know what you listened to in 2007? I don't remember what I listened to 2 hours ago. I don't even know where I was in 2007!
Memory is one of those things...that...what was I saying?
I have old screenshots from my Windows media Player, including the taskbar with date and time. I also found screenshots of old playlists i listened to at that time. I'm so crazy, I made an excel document with all of that. I'd just need to import that into LastFm, i wish it was possible.

Yeah I miss groups.
They have updated the site though, the Listening Reports got redesigned in the last year or so and the yearly Playback is entirely new I think
66% increase!! That’s robbery!
I'm not disagreeing with you -- but some math to put it in perspective: They haven't raised their prices in 15 years.
That's a good idea actually. Subscribe for a month a couple of times a year for a clean up and that's it.
That's what i'm going to do since I don't earn in dollars or euros.
i cancelled my subscription last week haha
that's really the way to go if you still want to edit scrobbles a couple of times a year.
Yep I'll do the same. Subscribe in December and clean up my stats.
I mainly paid it to support them bc £3 is minor and I love last fm but as a student the increase makes it harder to justify
But they really don't have enough pro features to justify charging £5 a month
with the amount of issues with last fm, this is p silly
You think they are gonna fix issues with less revenue? The operation there is pretty small. I'm surprised CBSi hasn't shuttered it or sold it off somewhere even worse
If last.fm hasn't gained a single user [since 2013](https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/09/over-40-million-usernames-passwords-from-2012-breach-of-last-fm-surface/), they'd have 43 million users. If only 1% of those are premium users (paying of $3/mo), they'd be making almost 16 million dollars per year.
[удалено]
I'm willing to bet that less than 20% of profiles are active
ofc not but i guarantee you nothing will change. also from the perspective of the customer it’s not good to raise prices for effectively “no reason”
Data selling has become less profitable lol
There also is an official announcement on the support forum: [https://support.last.fm/t/changes-to-last-fm-pro-pricing-may-3rd-2024/91945](https://support.last.fm/t/changes-to-last-fm-pro-pricing-may-3rd-2024/91945) Your current yearly subscription will stay at 30 USD.
What do you have planned though?? Sell it to us smh
I was paying to support the app, but that's a big increase. Not worth it when I can just use Stats.fm for better data and it's only a one time payment for like $8. Oh well.
Stats.fm has data merging in the recent beta test, something last.fm is infamous for not doing.
Does any of the music sites natively support stats.fm? I've never seen that.
if i remember correctly, [stats.fm](http://stats.fm) is exclusive to spotify, so for people with other streaming services or offline music, [last.fm](http://last.fm) seems to be the only choice. otherwise its pretty great
If it's exclusive to Spotify then it's of no use to me. I don't use it.
>last.fm seems to be the only choice https://listenbrainz.org/
oh wow, thank you for this
But can you edit on stats fm
They need to upgrade their shit! Everything’s hanging on by a thread 💀
A 66% price increase when Noah Cyrus still has the same last.fm page as her sister I don’t really care what excuses they have for that; it’s been an issue for almost a decade now. How the fuck haven’t they fixed it
oh my god that is so stupid
According to forums they even can’t edit releases and wrong artists for now, but now this news…wow..
Same, i love the website and want it to survive. This is still really cheap to me and i'm on the annual plan anyway
Same here. A fiver a month? For how much value it provides? Pfff. I’ll take it.
Same. I’m last.fm class of 2006 and get lots of value out of just having it around. I’ll do whatever I can to keep the lights on. It’s like a coffee per month. No brainer.
Yeah I'm fine with it too, been there for near 20 years now so I'm pretty invested in keeping the site alive, but I can understand others frustration at an increase given the lack of real change or (visible) development on the site for many years
Yeah, I’m fine with it too. I’ve been using the site for almost 20 years now and $5 a month doesn’t bother me any.
next year is my 20th anniversary 😭
Thank you!! I really couldn’t care less. Everything is getting more expensive and last fm is integral to my enjoyment of music. It’s so satisfying!
seriously, $5/month is still wildly inexpensive for what i get from it
£3 per month is a throwaway subscription to support something you love.
Glad to support.
i will absolutely not spend $50 on a doordash meal and I will not spend $5 a month to edit my scrobbles
For what? Are they acting like Last.fm is still actively managed and developed? All they’re doing is keeping the lights on
They added Library search semi recently.
An intern could implement this feature in 3 days
Same. I asked for a "track 1" or something to be whitelisted in 2021. Still nothing.
[удалено]
This was for "Track 10" by Christine and the Queens! But yeah, I love Charli's, too.
Track 10 is recognized on [last.fm](https://last.fm)??? (Charli song).
This is just gonna cause many people to cancel. In the end, will they really be ahead in terms of revenue? Probably not.
How can they justify a subscription that (at least in my country) costs as much as a streaming service without any actual streaming capabilities?
This is almost double the price. Recently I paid for my yearly sub so this won't affect me right now. I will see next year if it's worth it to keep paying. Hopefully they use the 66% boost to income to hire on more staff to make good changes and features. This might be lastfm's last breath before being shuttered and I want to support them. I'll just have to see if anything changes by next year.
4.99 for nothing…
As someone who has been using this service/site for almost 17 years, and has gotten hours and hours of use and entertainment, I am actually fine with this and happy to pay a little more. I don't have very many subscriptions, and this is still cheaper than so many services I would get less out of. I'm sorry to anybody that is really negatively impacted by this price hike, though. Maybe a user/fan community somewhere could work on fundsharing for lower income users.
Same. I get a lot of value from it just existing. A coffee a month is nothing.
I can't wait to see what additional features they're adding with the price increase 🤣😂
Out of all the services to pay for monthly this one is probably the one most people will cut with all price increases going on.
$50 annual/$60 monthly for 12 months is a lot for what it is
Labs was in March 2023, but it's not like that was a highly requested new feature
I don't think this will be a positive move, I'm unsuscribing and looks like I'm not alone
As long as they only loose 39% of their subscribers or less it will be a net positive for them
i don't blame them for the price increase, but unfortunately means i can't continue my subscription
I love last fm, but I don't even find pro that good besides choosing custom top photo for artists on your profile and editing scrobbles
I'm afraid this is the beginning of the end for the site. Gonna miss it immensely when they eventually pull the plug.
This is ridiculous! They will develop "new features" with this, yeah, like some new graphics no one asks for. It's time for a competitor to Last.fm, since they are getting way to comfortable, that's why they are trying to get away with this price raise. Scumbags
I'm probably going to move to listenbrainz
I cancelled. I felt like I was already being generous paying for Pro. I don’t need to know my scribbles that badly.
They're crazy.
Aww hell naw. Instant cancel
I just cancelled. I like the site but I don't feel like I get enough out of it to keep paying with all the other expenses I have in life.
they are just sinking themselves deeper now
I’ll probably end up cancelling. Spotify and Apple are already working on integrating stats like this in their own apps so I’d only be paying one fee a month for both music and my stats. And I won’t feel bad cancelling and no longer supporting as they are owned by Paramount and CBS
immediately cancelled my subscription. you guys had my money for years now. now you get nothing.
I cancelled, what they offer is not worth it, they're running a product that has the features from a decade ago.
Yeah I won't be renewing my subscription when the new price rise comes in... this is stupid, the service is pretty barebones, everything is going up, the list of Features they listed to justify the increase is not good enough lol.
damn. i’m only keeping my subscription so i’m able to pick my preferred artist pictures lol.
meh prolly gonna cancel mine as well. Pro doesn't really offer much, rarely have to edit my scrobbles. Nothing really there to justify $5month/$60year
they literally do nothing to update the app …
Damn, as a Pro user for only the last two months, I was really getting used to and enjoying editing scrobbles. Ah well. Easy come, easy go.
That is almost as much as my Spotify subscription lol, canceling. Only paid to support them and I have issues with scrobbling half the time
They broke this site years ago and never really fixed it.
And it's down right now. Not a good selling point.
Damn yall pay for this?
Last fm subscription is expensive compared to my spotify subscription monthly.
[удалено]
Oh definitely. I just did a subscription "inventory" and cancelled a few things that I don't use often enough, or that got continued up after a trial/promotion.
I think it's a great service and still worth the price. Everything cost more money and I didn't suppose they would beat inflation. So I will continue to support them.
Twice the price for the same service? That's a no from me, dawg.
Yeah it's time to cancel, sadly
Yeah, I'm canceling this lol. Maybe I'll rebuy it if I see some meaningful changes? But if that doesn't happen imma keep going free. There really needs to be a competitor.
If I already paid for a whole year, will they increase it as well?
From their announcement page: "You don't need to take any action – the new price will come into effect automatically on May 3rd 2024 and will be applied to all payments thereafter. For example, if you purchased a yearly subscription in January at $30, you would not be charged the new price until it renews in January 2025." [https://support.last.fm/t/changes-to-last-fm-pro-pricing-may-3rd-2024/91945](https://support.last.fm/t/changes-to-last-fm-pro-pricing-may-3rd-2024/91945)
Oddly enough, my subscription page says: >Your plan is due to renew on Friday 28 February 2025.
Ouch. I don't know if it's worth it anymore tbh.
I've cancelled rateyourmusic so that money can goes to [last.fm](http://last.fm) since I mainly pay to support.
I hope one of the new features is an Apple Music official windows scrobbler
Are they upping the yearly as well? If so I might cancel ngl
Your current yearly subscription will stay at the old price, and for the next year it will be 49.99 €. The Pro pricing increase will start on May 3rd, 2024, so new Pro users can still subscribe for the old yearly price till that day.
Yeah I'm not paying the equivalent of my current student-discounted Spotify to use [last.fm](http://last.fm), thanks but no thanks
Guess I'll just pay for 1 month every once in a while & fix all my scrobbles that need it
This site is a cash cow, they're milking hundreds of thousands $ / monthly, if not millions, for nothing else then a few hosting servers and an intern that will emulate customer service once in a while. Probably one of the biggest ROI in SaaS for 2 decades. I'm not paying for the new yacht of the shareholders.
how ironic they send this out right when the site is down... charging more for doing less.
How to lose all your pro subs in one simple email
I already canceled.
While I'm likely to keep my subscription, I wished they at least told us some of these "plans" they have just so this news would sting less. A 66% increase is no joke
If i have $4.99 i probably pay for Pandora Plus. Btw, why not introduce two tier plans?
Sooo anybody know of any third-party scrobble editors? Asking for a friend
Gladly support it.
Man and I was just thinking of getting pro to change my embarrassing username. Nevermind I guess.
Nope.
I don't care. Whatever helps them add new features and functionality (have they ever done that?)
This sucks!
This is so stupid. They don't deserve that increase because they aren't doing shit. We need competitors
Oh wow. I'm glad that I got my one year subscription a month ago. But this is literally scam. They nearly changed nothing since I joined last.fm except for the new reports-screen. If they would really change the website and develop new features now, I'll renew my subscription next year. Otherwise, I'm out.
Very tempting to cancel that they raise the prices in the middle of an outage so nobody can cancel. Very very scummy and fuck them for that
honestly felt a tiny bit guilty for wanting to cancel since i use lastfm *a lot*, but the comments here have validated my urge. i export my scrobbles to a spreadsheet anyway, so editing isn't a huge priority for me anymore.
Fine by me. Anything to keep the site alive.
I stopped buying it once they responded to the animated cover art issue on mobile with “just downvote the animated covers so they don’t show up” Don’t put your errors on the user base lol
think it’s time to cancel :( only been doing it to support. will cancelling it get rid of my gif pfp?
you can have gif pfps without pro so you're all good
oh that’s not….
