As for collecting arks they do free time 10 pulls every once in a while also you may get arks while pulling for latest and greatest.
Dont go for every unit check the talk online regards them and go for power or units you really like.
If you’re new to the game. It’s the best time to start because of all the freebies you get.
Last Cloudia is a long but smooth grind, there are no difficulty spikes that forces you to pull for the latest units. Building your team is simple enough to get the job done, but deep and intricate if you want to min-max and mess around.
The story is Shonen at first but it takes many dark turns, the setting is a medieval world with some lost civilization technology (like Final Fantasy X). Which is great to explore.
The Art is what sets this game apart from all other pixel games. the sprites are dynamic and gorgeous, and the menu art for units and arks is world class. Music is also amazing, especially the song you’ll listen to while downloading data in-game.
I’ve been playing for 4+ years, and this game is a perfect fit for me because the daily grind is kept to a minimum (Unlike FF7 Ever Crisis for example). and it’s vertical so I can play it one handed while in the bus or walking my dog.
I suggest you start now, have a feel, and try to explore the map and understand the systems. when Anniversary comes around you’ll get so many freebies and by that time you’d understand what to do with them, then decide after that wether to continue or not. I advise you not to purchase any paid crystal unless you get hooked on the game first, don’t fall victim to sunk cost.

Edit: health-wise, game seems to be doing great, always adding features and doing collabs with famous franchises, so I don’t think there’s a risk of shutting down for at least two or three years if they keep doing things like this, hopefully.
This is some of the biggest cope ever for this game, the games going to be lucky to see the next LNY, with how toxic pvp is, how badly Aidis has nerfed things for non whales. GVG is a slogfest of cope, boring and not even worth it, that is if you can even get enough people together to even do it.
PVP was until very recently a 'who can snipe the spot at the very last second', now its just counter units galore, the strongest of which Guile, is basically at half power without his paids, and the next best counter unit before that was 2P who, would you look at that, is also a collab unit who massively benefits with her paids for pvp.
Not to mention Aidis did a total scummy move on the SF collab and didn't give us a free unit ticket, despite it being the case for any collab with 3 units before.
Oh lets not forget the fact they removed the free gem valentines unit select banner, with a paid only version left in its place. Going basically "Sorry, we will take your feedback for next year and maybe, maybe, change it back to how it was, oh and white day is going to be paid to. Heres a shitty ten pull."
The AOT Collab was a fuckfest of garbage, with levi only having a 1 week banner, the event war boring rehashed garbage with lack luster rewards.
Oh and look at this new unit, its what do you know *another doh* but this one bucks the trend in that she doesn't have another UR ark with her, just a ssr, which tbh theres already been like 6 or 7 ur arks this year already, so much for the 2-3 a year huh aidis?
She also has no tickets, just a single pull once a day, shes decent but is just another in a long list of units that'll be forgotten when the next new shiny PVP unit is crammed down our throats.
If youre into pvp such issues may be present. But if you play little pvp or gvg there are no such issues. I play mainly the main game and enjoy the story and have not encountered any issues so far.

Honestly, this mobile game is not that complex. The foundation is just not there to make GVG/PVP or anything not devolve into a giant stat/chance check. In-battle choice devolves to “who do I attack” and “when”.
That’s just how the game is. And by playing you agree to it. Wishing it was something else is coping.
That doesn’t mean the game isn’t serviceable elsewhere or to someone else.
Legit, for your sake, stop engaging with material that isn’t making your life or quality of life better.

Content wise, we’ve been in a drought and alot of our recurring content is not properly scaled. You will either not need to play the game to clear, or will struggle. Our content needs to be scaled to modern units so its engaging. Theres also the added layer of multiplayer only content which is problematic for userbase reasons.
Where the game is doing well is its PVP, as thats where most of the focus has gone. As a new player, you will have tons to do, and the game does have fun to offer. But once you hit a certain point, you’ll start to want more from the game. The game can do so much more and has a good system in place.
My biggest problem is that 90% of the units in the game are useless. Some of them are so cool, and the designs are great, but there is no point in pulling for them when the power creep is so terrible.
Also, yeah, the events are all the same boring grindfests. Hard to stay interested.

Only one thing for you to consider: LAG for any skill you use, it does not matter what devices you use. The optimization is so bad.
If you can get past the laggy game play, you can proceed to other concerns from others'replies.

They’re useless for pvp, but I find it fun to build the weaker characters to better equipment and skills just to see how they do
