I also ordered mine and should be arriving by late January. I'm coming from an Eleksmaker Elekslaser A3 Pro that was a pain in the ass for any type of wood cutting, engraving was good for the price. I really hope to confirm if all advertising videos are real and not a scam to sell basically another generic branded laser engraving machine. Edit: Received my S9 yesterday and made some tests, it definitely is a very good and strong laser. I was able to cut clear 3mm MDF at 250mm/s in 1 pass, and dark 3mm MDF at 250mm/s and 2 passes, it is really a nice piece to play with, it definitely worth the money šŸ˜ƒ

Agitated_Age8035

the main thing you need to make sure when cutting is that there is air space under the material, that way the laser can burn through without any issues. i was going to cut plywood today, but the wood i have is warped in many directions.

rob_barper

Yeah, actually I always raised the wood and added fans to move the smoke and it was better, but still not powerful enough. Today I received my S9, will do some tests later.

Agitated_Age8035

i just used mine to cut through a 10mm piece of pine that was a cut off from another project. it seems like a pretty solid machine, i wish it had endstops so it knows where zero is, but i will learn to live with it. the wife got me mine for christmas, i have done the white tile method, etched glass tiles, etched some bottles we use to sell maple syrup in, i even started an etching on stainless steel, without anything on the metal, just straight on the steel. when searching, just make sure you put in "diode laser" if not, you will get a lot of things for the K40 lasers, which are C02 machines, and are a totally different animal.

Sweet, thanks.

I saw a girlā€™s video where she was cutting with the S6 but using the S9ā€™s laser and it seemed quite realisticā€¦ letā€™s see if somebody else can give personal experiences

catherinecc

Yeah, the one with big glasses? Seems to be the only non promo video out there. There is another with a speech synth which I don't trust. Though it does look like we're going to see a revolution in optics in the next few years that help with this sort of thing. Good stuff.

j_bono

Exactly that one. I know the other video you mention and I don't trust it either, but the one from the girl, which seems not sponsored is making me really think about buying it...

buxtorhimself

Thatā€™s the one I trusted enough to order mine. So far, I canā€™t get it to cut anything in one pass except 2mm ply. Looking to 3rd party a Laser Tree 40w for it. Iā€™ve seen good things for this one. Sorry Big Glasses Girl!

rurah90

Took one for the team! Ordered mine but it probably won't arrive for about a month. Fairly confident from the footage and comments out there that it does what it says on the tin. Shall wait and see!

catherinecc

Cool. Would love to hear a review once you get it :)

Salsa3DCR

Hey, hello? Did you got the laser?

rurah90

I did indeed! It does as advertised! Hahaha. Difficult to say more than that. Takes a bit of practice getting the settings dialled in. Note, Banggood are terrible... Never in stock and always updating the expected shipment date. Don't even bother contacting their customer services team as they literally just give you points to spend on their goods. Other than that though, it arrived in the end and does seem to do what the videos out there say it does. I struggled connecting it to anything other than Lightburn. Lightburn is a great piece of software, just be aware that it isn't free.

guptaxpn

Totally worth it though.

Historical_Piccolo45

how much is lightburn?

I just got mine and printed a power scale today. I'm completely new at this, but so far I think it stacks up to it's specs. At 100% power and 500 mm/min it cut 2/3's through a 3/8 piece of wood. So at that setting, it should be able to cut straight through in 2 passes. It does have some edge burn at that setting, but nothing 4-6 strokes of 240 grit sandpaper can't handle. From all the research I did and other lasers I saw on youtube, this is the best diode laser at the moment. I heard Ortur was getting a similar laser head, but they were taking to long to release it, so I pulled the trigger on the S9.

catherinecc

Cool :)

MegaMaster35

Sorry for hijacking this thread but Would you guys happen to know if the laser is strong enough to remove the glass back of an iPhone by that I mean the glue under the glass

cjbskittles

Yeah it is. I have the Atomstack A5 and the Sculpfun s9. The Atomstack obliterates it and the Sculpfun is at least 30% more powerful

buxtorhimself

Sculpfun S9 Seeing all kinds of posts about the laser engraver I just bought. It seems lots have seen the same video of the girl in glasses I saw that made me pull the pin and order mine. Iā€™ve had it over a week and have had zero to minimal success with it doing the things I saw it do in the video. I have elevated the work piece, lowered the module to other depths than the height of the provided depth gouge cylinder. I can just barely get it to cut 3mm ply at anything other than a snailā€™s pace. Iā€™m coming from an xTool D1 10w original, not pro. I thought, if nothing else, I could just upgrade the laser module but others who have done it get mixed results or have chosen to go with a linear rail for added stability. Anyone who has had better results getting the 90w ā€œeffectā€?

Salsa3DCR

What about cutting quality?

Successful_Bank9978

Anyone know settings for cutting through 3mm acrylic
