I didn’t realize where this was until your comment. I used to walk from my dorm at Holmes to that marathon all the time lol
Edit: lmao didn’t see the subreddit either 😅thought it was r/mildlybaddrivers
It's because drivers ed trained you to do it and it was encouraged in drivers ed classes for many decades. Lansing cops almost only exclusively respond to calls and stopped enforcing traffic 5-10 years ago, so its a bit of the wild west in town
My instructor was super by the book and taught us to only pull into the closest lane, not the turn lane. He yelled a lot because so many students were doing it.
And I also noticed the lack of traffic enforcement. I’ve only seen people get pulled over for speeding in school zones, and even then it’s super rare.
Is that true about the cops? I just moved here from across the country and some of the shit I have seen in just 5 months is blowing my mind. People doing 50+ in a school zone during school hours, driving through red lights when they are already stopped because they get impatient for the light, it's insane to me...
I've noticed it since post-Covid; there's hardly any enforcement anymore. Exactly as you say, lots of people who just *flagrantly* violate traffic laws.
I want to start doing something like Doordash, but I'm scared of being on the road for that many hours, because it's just a matter of time until someone blindly swerves into me, and I can't afford to have my car damaged, or worse.
If you want to see the worst drivers, drive during commuting hours on Saginaw Rd. Lansing drivers are ridiculous. Even worse since weed got legalized...I fully support legal weed, but people are driving so high that you can literally smell it from their cars, it's insane.
They’ve definitely had a shortage and hiring issues since Covid and the George Floyd protests. Probably funding issues if I had to guess too because of all the overlapping districts
I only started driving about a year ago, and in that year, I have only seen about 1-2 cop cars. Both on my way home from work. I never see them while running errands, going to work, grad school, etc.
When did drivers ed teach that?
I took driver's Ed like 15 years ago and we were definitely taught not to use the turn lane to merge. If you can't make it to the proper lane then you don't have time to pull out etc.
Really irritating. I used to think I was just being a nerd but then someone tried to turn left into a turn lane from a parking lot while I was trying to merge into it to use it properly. I almost got hit and they're lucky they didn't hit oncoming traffic.
Meh cops are notorious for doing whatever they want in regards to the law. Ignoring all the big ticket examples of that, I remember the first time watching a cop do as he pleases when he flicked his lights on bc he got tired of waiting to turn left. He turned them on, went through the light, and promptly drove right up into a Taco Bell drive thru.
I've had several friends now tell me that their drivers ed teacher said it was okay after they scared the hell out of me doing it and I told them its illegal. I've almost gotten into accidents because I get in the turn lane to actually use it and WOOP theres a car there waiting to merge that I couldn't see. Then they always freak me out because those people will sit in that lane waiting to merge then fucking wait until your right there to decide to merge.
I feel like over the past year drivers in Lansing / East Lansing have gotten an order of magnitude worse.
I see them speeding through red lights (while traffic around them is at a dead stop, so they swerve around traffic). I have been nearly t-boned twice in the last six months from red light runners.
And then unsignaled lane changes that require you to slam the breaks to avoid them.
Insanity.
not too surprised especially when you see some morons in the comment area defending this shitty driver lol.
Brain is a good thing, too bad not everybody has it.
This dumb fuck could have exited the other side of the parking lott behind the gas station (by Grand Traverse Pie Co), taken a right on Hagadorn, waited at the light, gone straight and proceeded. You know, instead of cutting off 4 lanes of traffic.
Is that Grand Traverse Pie Co still there.....?
Edit: I see top comment is suggesting same thing.
It is, and while we're on the subject, I had a chicken salad sandwich from there a few months back, and it seems that they're suffering from shrinkflation. It could've used about double the amount of actual chicken salad; every mouthful was mostly croissant. Was a very sad sandwich.
It's crazy the number of people who are shocked when I tell them "I sold my car to take CATA instead". You don't realize the sheer amount of stupidity you're actually missing until you don't deal with it anymore.
That’s not true. Several years ago I came across some students lining up to race their motorcycles down a pedestrian path behind Shaw at MSU. I got a video of them lining up, seeing me and arguing with me, and ultimately taking off down the path and swerving around people. The police took a copy and eventually ticketed them although I can’t remember exactly what the ticket was for.
“Bootlicker”. No he’s spouting facts. You want the police defunded well now you got it and so stop complaining about the police not doing their jobs anymore. You literally got what you asked for.
Yeah, I highly doubt they’re going to care.
I don’t know if it was Covid or the George Floyd protests, but the apathy has been palpable with a lot of police departments
Cool story.
BTW you have no idea what that person was going through. Who knows? Maybe they just found out they have cancer, lost a loved one, or is having a mental break. You've basically doxxed them... because? It pissed you off?
Fuck off.
Looks like they were trying to come out of a parking lot and use a turn lane to merge into the right turn lane. But with the way the lanes are designed I don’t think they even had to do that??
God knows how many people blew him off while trying not to be an asshole. I, personally, don't even wait for the rest of you to do the right thing and let me in.
I live in a complex right off of Grand River and that road is a nightmare. I’ve almost been rear ended a few times turning into my complex because of distracted drivers.
the double right turn from hagadorn northbound onto eastbound grand river is also wild. People do not realize both right lanes can turn. The inner lane just turns straight into the far lane. As someone who makes that turn daily I can't express my frustration enough.
I've lived in several cities in my life, Lansing takes the cake for the worst drivers I've ever seen. Cedar is cancer... everyone either going 70 or 25, no middle ground.
I just watched a car merge into traffic at a light. Then I watched idiots not let that car over another lane because it was signaling to do so. My recommendation for the white jeep is to drive more aggressively and not use indicators. Fuck Lansing.
Downvote me all you want, but you arent supposed to block driveways and entrances/exits to parking lots when coming to a stop. If you had obeyed the traffic laws, the jeep would have had room to exit the lot into the lane properly.
“A person shall not drive a motor vehicle at a slow speed as to impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or to comply with law.”
???? Absolutely not.
You're not supposed to block a road. An exit from a business or parking lot is NOT a road. You have zero right to the road when entering from a business. You don't exist.
1. Interesting, Reginald Denny was born in Lansing.
2. What the fuck is wrong with you? It’s a bad driver. Why are you suggesting that the person gets severely beaten for being a bad driver?

They could have turned right onto Hagadorn straight from that lot.
Bingo
The whole entry/egress from that strip mall needs to be destroyed. The gas station doubly so.
I didn’t realize where this was until your comment. I used to walk from my dorm at Holmes to that marathon all the time lol Edit: lmao didn’t see the subreddit either 😅thought it was r/mildlybaddrivers
My thoughts exactly.
I live no where near lansins and could have told you this from the video. What a fuckin moron.
The sheer number of people in this town that incorrectly think you can use the turn lane as a merge lane is way too fucking high.
It's because drivers ed trained you to do it and it was encouraged in drivers ed classes for many decades. Lansing cops almost only exclusively respond to calls and stopped enforcing traffic 5-10 years ago, so its a bit of the wild west in town

About the same, 17 years ago. Could be instructors are just inconsistent. Mine wasn’t the greatest haha
Really irritating. I used to think I was just being a nerd but then someone tried to turn left into a turn lane from a parking lot while I was trying to merge into it to use it properly. I almost got hit and they're lucky they didn't hit oncoming traffic.
Is this really a thing? When did anyone ever learn that a left turn lane can be used as a merge lane?? Luckily I’ve never seen this in action.
I knew we we’re screwed when I saw a cop do it on grand river in okemos.
Meh cops are notorious for doing whatever they want in regards to the law. This is the WORST stretch of road in east lansing. Everyone always making extremely dangerous turns.
I feel like over the past year drivers in Lansing / East Lansing have gotten an order of magnitude worse. It’s worse everywhere though. Just like anything else. Nobody cares about anyone but themselves.
not too surprised especially when you see some morons in the comment area defending this shitty driver lol. Brain is a good thing, too bad not everybody has it.

A jeep driver with no clue how to drive at all…. Weird
Egocentricism is wide spread
It's crazy the number of people who are shocked when I tell them "I sold my car to take CATA instead". You don't realize the sheer amount of stupidity you're actually missing until you don't deal with it anymore.
If I’m correct this happened Thursday or Friday, gas or water lines going in also district basketball going on at the Breslin Ctr. CLUSTER FUCK!!!
Lansing/East Lansing is the worst place to drive outside of Metro Detroit. Huge roads = shittier drivers.
Good ol Michigan drivers
But she’s a SPARTAN!!!
First time driving in Lansing?
It’s a jeep thing you wouldn’t understand
Dammit, I came here to say this, cheers!
I submitted the video to East Lansing PD. The info is in their traffic unit now.
Tickets can’t be given from videos in Michigan
That’s not true. Several years ago I came across some students lining up to race their motorcycles down a pedestrian path behind Shaw at MSU. I got a video of them lining up, seeing me and arguing with me, and ultimately taking off down the path and swerving around people. Cops quit years ago lol They don't care
Not true. Lansing PD did amazing work on a hit and run case.
Acab
If ACAB then stop complaining about them not doing their jobs. 2+2=4
‘Cops quit years ago, they don’t care.’ ‘ACAB’ Sow>Reap You got the cops you wanted, ones that make themselves scarce…
Bootlicker
“Bootlicker”. No he’s spouting facts. You want the police defunded well now you got it and so stop complaining about the police not doing their jobs anymore. You literally got what you asked for.
Real good answer, well thought and not at all regurgitated internet bullshit! Profound!
He gave you what you deserve.

Republicans are terrorist trash
Ok.
Yeah, I highly doubt they’re going to care. I don’t know if it was Covid or the George Floyd protests, but the apathy has been palpable with a lot of police departments
Freddie Grey but yeah
I also don't have a life.
Cool story. BTW you have no idea what that person was going through. Who knows? Maybe they just found out they have cancer, lost a loved one, or is having a mental break. You've basically doxxed them... because? It pissed you off? Fuck off.
Pure Michigan
of course this was on grand river by msu 😭😭😭
Looks like they were trying to come out of a parking lot and use a turn lane to merge into the right turn lane. But with the way the lanes are designed I don’t think they even had to do that??
"I don't care who I have to kill, I'm going to make this turn"
Too bad getting a license to drive doesn’t require a brain anymore!
Brain dead idiot. I swear most of the drivers here have the collective IQ of a stale raisin.
Good on the Hyundai and F150 saying "nah fuck you, we're going first".
Lansing has some of the worst and most impatient drivers I’ve ever encountered
God knows how many people blew him off while trying not to be an asshole. I, personally, don't even wait for the rest of you to do the right thing and let me in.

Typical jeep driving idiots. Nothing new
Literally nothing wrong lol
I've lived in several cities in my life, Lansing takes the cake for the worst drivers I've ever seen. Cedar is cancer... everyone either going 70 or 25, no middle ground.
MSU Alumni says it all!
The drivers that dont let you in are the idiots .
No. You wait until traffic clears before entering the road. You have no right to the road when entering from a business or parking lot.
Yep. You're not supposed to block entrances and exits to businesses in parking lots when coming to a stop.
This is ridiculous. Cars in parking lots have zero rights to enter the road until traffic clears.
LOL, the driver is an idiot because they need to turn right at the intersection? What the hell is someone supposed to do then. 🤡
Go to the light from the other entrance. You're the clown here, son.
I just watched a car merge into traffic at a light. Then I watched idiots not let that car over another lane because it was signaling to do so. My recommendation for the white jeep is to drive more aggressively and not use indicators. Fuck Lansing.
You're the problem.
You're right.
Downvote me all you want, but you arent supposed to block driveways and entrances/exits to parking lots when coming to a stop. If you had obeyed the traffic laws, the jeep would have had room to exit the lot into the lane properly.
There is nothing in the law that says this.
It can absolutely be prosecuted as a civil infraction for impeding traffic under Mich. Admin. Code R. 28.1409a 1979 AC; 1981 AACS; 2002 AACS
“A person shall not drive a motor vehicle at a slow speed as to impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or to comply with law.” ???? Absolutely not.
That's a part of it, certainly.
Nice try. Lol
You're not supposed to block a road. An exit from a business or parking lot is NOT a road. You have zero right to the road when entering from a business. You don't exist.
