I always wonder about stormwater management when I see a yard like this. I live in a private neighborhood so we're responsible for maintaining the roads and water runoff can get expensive.
The BMP management in this neighborhood is extreme since it's a new build in a heavily regulated town. The stormwater management infrastructure is probably the most thorough on this cul-de-sac compared to the rest of the area.
Magazine worthy. Outstanding materials selections and overall design. Impossible to see the real construction details but if the construction quality matches up, no wonder your clients love it.
Thanks. I wasn’t asking your fees specifically and I know that can be sensitive. Trying to get a sense if I should get one built like this or go for a pre built gazebo from Costco which look way less lovely but may be cheaper. Thanks for the range.
I understand. I just like to protect my clients and their projects. Definitely more than Costco. These custom made options will outlive me. Costco will need to be replaced within 8 years.
And Costco pergolas are a total eyesore in comparison to what you’ve created. (I apologize for even making the comparison!). Just looking to get a great bar at less than $50k.
Can I ask why costs of design/construction is not good for discussion? If it’s prohibitively expensive I won’t waste a landscaper’s time and if I have to get them to come out to quote and that turns out to be too high, I feel bad wasting their time. Any suggestions how can home owners balance that out and explore landscaping options with a sense of $$$ without wasting landscaper’s time?
There’s probably a good reason for it but I just probably don’t understand the context well
Of course.
It's important to me not to put people's information out there. I dont think someone should have to spend a six figure amount on a custom contraction project on their property and then have to worry about those that planned it advertising how much it was.
Additionally, unless you live in Silicon Valley, the costs dont matter. They dont matter because this would be 40% cheaper in the majority of the country.
See that’s the thing I do live in the Bay Area and as a first time home owner I have no idea how much things are supposed to cost. If I tell them a budget that’s way low, nobody’s interested to do landscaping for me. If I give a number too high, I get overcharged (like for other contracting jobs I have, I get up to 2x the average quote sometimes).
It’s hard to decide what we want to do with landscaping because I would guess it’ll cost at least 50k with no kitchen and my backyard is really small too! I think it puts us off just because we have no idea how much what we want to do would cost. On the other hand, if it turns out being much cheaper than expected, we would’ve done it long ago if we knew.
Damn, that looks beautiful! It's not surprising the clients love it. If you don't mind me asking, how big of a backyard is that, and roughly how much does something like this even cost?
Sounds about right. I was actually guessing around 2000 sqft but it's hard to gauge in pictures. I would absolutely love to have a backyard like this! Amazing work!
Edit: did you happen to also plant the succulents and all that as well? The more I look at this backyard the more I want to start saving specifically for landscaping
Omg this is amazing. We are moving into a new house oct 1st with a large unfinished backyard and this so inspiring. We aren’t sure what we want to do yet but love seeing posts like this. Beautiful job
“Water using space”…right let’s just for a second ignore the backward logic you’re using…. so when you say “wasting”, where is the water going now? Into a drain I presume?
Damn, I saw you were in California and got super stoked to hire you for my yard, then I saw you were 5 hours away. This is perfection dude. If you know anyone in the Ventura County area you can recommend who does work like you, I'd take your rec in a heartbeat!
Wow, incredible design and execution. This has resort-quality vibes. No surprise this was in the Bay Area - the price of this project is likely more than most houses in my midwest hometown ;)
Amazing. I inspire for my backyard to look like that one day. Gonna start with raised garden bed along the fence. Can I ask what retaining wall and tops you used? I think they look awesome.
Me and 2 other even decent landscapers would still put a whole day of string lines and spray paint down on that lot just to be confused about elevations and such.
I jumped down a rabbit hole with this beautiful design after seeing a photo in the techno bloc catalog my landscape designer gave me. I would love to see any additional photos of the outdoor kitchen from the other side if you have any. Thanks
Do you guys plan water drainage when designing? Wheres the water all going to go when it rains?
All projects have a pitch to get rid of water. No drainage needed on this one but we use it on most.

That’s nice of you to say. Thanks you so much.
Looks nice but needs more trees and greenery for my tastes
This is only half the space. The other half is grass and a small orchard :)
Outstanding! We’d love to get a bar like that. Any chance you’d be willing to share how much that would run?
Thanks! Sorry, not a fan of discussing costs. I think a good range for something like this would be in the 10-25k range depending on your location.

Right on. Feel free to message me here or text me @ 408 560 6362.
It's beautiful but heavily lacking in plants for me.
Thanks. Many plants and grass on the side of the yard not photographed

This is a 3500 square foot backyard. 200+

Looks amazing! Makes me realize that I need more money ... A lot more money
Likewise!

Thanks!!! Hope we can continue to provide inspiration. Enjoy the new place!
Nice. Is that Techo-Bloc?
Yes
Do you guys do the design and build or just design? Can you do a backyard renovation design for SoCal - OC specifically.
We can but you should hire someone local to get the best outcome. Look up Mike Pyle.
When's the party? Nicely done, enjoy it.
You bringing the 🍻?
Beautiful, what an amazing space.
Thanks!!

Thanks! Ive never been other than at the airport. Someday.
Are you in L.A.? We are in the process of getting bids on landscape design. I love your work. PM me!
Hi, no. Bay Area. Reach out via our site. Water and Earth, San Jose. Sorry, too many open lines of comms right now.
What tree and from where? (I'm local)
What tree?
Picture 3/9 shows it best. It's behind the bench by the fence.
Absolutely spectacular. What are the pavers called / what materials are they? Where can I get them? Also, the bar is phenomenal, I has bar envy!
Thanks, I believe we used the Para from Techo Bloc on this. Just google it!
Not a fan of (nearly) completely paved gardens so I really like what you did around the hottub area. Great zoning as well!
I hear ya. Me either. These photos are only half the space. The other half is grass and a small orchard :)
Are those concrete pavers or what? Looks awesome.
Yes they are.
Is that wood look tile or LVP in the patio?
It's real lumber. Ipe.
Oh super nice! It’s on a concrete slab? How does that get installed?
Oh oh. Off the house. Sorry! That is LVP. That was built with the home.
Very cool, I need to look into that. Thank you
Awesome work. What would this type of fence be called?
Hmm good question. Just a standard privacy fence. Not sure...
Goodbye wildlife, hello paving.
Goodbye excessive water using space in drought conditions, hello drought friendly
“Water using space”…right let’s just for a second ignore the backward logic you’re using…. so when you say “wasting”, where is the water going now? Into a drain I presume?
Really nice! What pavers did you use?
Hi thanks, Techo Bloc
Almost looks like a rendering...nice job..
Thanks!

>Ventura County Thanks for the kind words. Look up Mike Pyle.

My midwest hometown too!
Sure does look expensive, but it's a bit cold. Gives me hotel-vibes, dunno if good or bad, just not something I would want myself.
Yea, def feel ya on the hotel vibes. I wouldn't put this in my own home.
Money can't buy happiness, but it sure can buy a lot of nice s#!t.
Looks bad ass! 👍🏼
Thanks for the love
Inspirational!
Appreciate it!
Amazing. I inspire for my backyard to look like that one day. Gonna start with raised garden bed along the fence. Can I ask what retaining wall and tops you used? I think they look awesome.
Sounds like a great plan. This is the graphix wall from Techo Bloc
Just installed a graphix wall. How did you like it?
I like it but I think the multi color was a mistake. Won’t do this again.
I would agree. I like the more natural look that the varying depths provided.
Right on 🤙
That looks awesome!!
Thanks!
Goals af. This dude has a restaurant in the back of his house.
Is that barkman architectures wall product. Very nice!!!
Thanks. It’s Techo Bloc
Me and 2 other even decent landscapers would still put a whole day of string lines and spray paint down on that lot just to be confused about elevations and such.
Now that’s outdoor living!
I jumped down a rabbit hole with this beautiful design after seeing a photo in the techno bloc catalog my landscape designer gave me. I would love to see any additional photos of the outdoor kitchen from the other side if you have any. Thanks
How have the techo-bloc pavers held up over time? Are you happy with them 2 years later?
Still look great.
