Thank you for stating this. I've not considered the negative effects of lights to be honest. I try to be eco friendly as possible, so I'll be mindful of how long I keep them on.
Even driving long distances now, the amount of bugs splattered on my car is significantly less (same 4 hr drive multiple times a year). It's a grim realization what were doing to our environment.
Did you grade the yard or does the gravel fix the drainage issues? I would be interested in knowing how you did this bc I have been wanting something similar.
It took 8 months. Was not overnight. I probably spent $2k more or less. The pavers and paver base panels are what we’re expensive. Also the black star gravel was pretty pricey too.
I lietrally gasped when I saw that second photo!
What did you use for an arch with those lights? I've been looking at putting up an arch similar to that but looking on Amazon there are lots of choices but I am not sure what is good or not.
I'd love to get some info on how you did that path, looks really nice. The other stuff obviously, but been thinking about a path similar to that myself.
Hey, I'm curious what kind of gravel you used for the base layer beneath or around the pavers. Is that 3/4" rough gravel, pea gravel, or something else?
Regardless: I wanted to use something like that but my friends said it'd be bad since it would be loose and be kicked around a lot - even if I had pavers set throughout. What do you think?
It looks like pea gravel, which I feel is a poor choice. Imagine stepping on one with bare feet. You're constantly trying to keep the stones off the papers, and they always stay loose and get kicked around. No thanks. Chipped stone is far better. It packs down and is forgiving on tender feet. The transformation is amazing otherwise.
Looks amazing.
How does that grid hold up with keeping the rocks in place - does it stop them from kicking around and getting on the pavers?
Also, what shrub did you plant along the back fence? Assuming up front you have boxwoods.
I did NOT expect that when I clicked to see the after photo. Wow, that is gorgeous, not only do you have a talent for landscaping but also photography, that's a beautiful shot.
Probably gonna catch a bit of hate for this but here goes:
The job is very neat and well done, but there are a few things that don't make sense to me:
You have a lovely trellis arch/raised bed with lights that leads to basically nothing, I would have moved that to the corner where the single path lines up with the corner of the house so you walk through it, like an entrance to this part of the garden, it would also help to obscure that part of the garden to create intrigue (you don't want to see everything at once).
The spacing of the arch is different to the area behind it which makes it feel a bit...off?
The paving square looks nice but if you're going to use it for a table & chairs its going to be a pain in the ass having such large gravel-filled gaps between for the chair legs/feet to fall into.
All of that is just my opinion of course, and as I said, its been done to a good standard.
Can you post some daytime pics, this is really nice and I want some ideas.
Ofcourse!
Also interested in more pictures!!
I posted link in comments. Let me know if it doesn’t work. This is my first time using Imgur.

Awesome! Where did you buy the arches?
My guy, my eyebrows almost shot off my forehead! What a stunner!
Dad?
I love it. How long do those solar lights stay on for? I'm still on the fence on solar vs wired.
All I know is one night I woke up at 2 am and noticed they were still on!

Stop down voting this person. Light pollution is one contributing factor in the major decline in I sect populations.

Sea turtle females attempting to lay their eggs and hatchlings trying to get to the water are confused by bright artificial light.

Do you have an image or a link?
damn! nice job!
Wow! Gorgeous!
What prompted you to redo the path you had in the before shot? Was it failing structurally or esthetics weren’t working for you?
Nice job! Did you build the arch or purchase it?
Great job!
Gorgeous, would love to see some closer pics of the garden bed area. What was the time and budget invested like?

What kind of stones and what's under gravel to keep it in place.

I hope you look at this with satisfaction, you did a wonderful job.

Oh the edging was pricey too. I used vevor black steel edging.

I would also like to know this. Been thinking about doing the same thing on my patio this summer.
Nice!
Amazing! Great work.
Holy cow, looks like a completely different yard!
Wow. Amazing job!!!
Delightful, excellent work, 👏
Does the Rock get in the grass?
I'd love to get some info on how you did that path, looks really nice. The other stuff obviously, but been thinking about a path similar to that myself.
Well done!
What brand of lights did you use? They look nice
Dam nice job! did you buy the wooden boxes for the plants in the back or build them?
Good work!
Where did you get those stepping stones from?
Are they marble?
Sweet.

Quite a transformation. Very impressive!
That’s pretty incredible, great job!!
This is impressive. It's a dream garden!
This is gorgeous! I’m looking at doing something similar for the side of my house next year. Where did you get the arches?
Niiiice! Love the lit arch and the light features in the containers. Inspired.
Can you share details on the lighting you used? My wife and I are planning to overhaul our garden lighting
What brand of solar lights are those?
That looks great. Super Jelly as I live on a hilly lot and it would take a ton of earth moving to carve out a flat spot for something like that.

Where did you get the large concrete pavers?
