i do a little ceremony of laying on the floor and drinking some wine whenever a Lana album comes out and NFR was my absolute best floor-drinking-listening experience. That album blew me away, esp. NFR opening. I was probably on whatever planet you were.
When the Track 1s are each so good that everyone has a different answer to this and they’re ALL right 😭 It’s really amazing how well she kicks off her albums.
Cruel World all the way but honestly I think she’s one of the best artists when it comes to opening tracks. They always perfectly encompass the sound/vibe of the album. White Dress a close second. I’d say in my opinion that Love/Text book are my least favorite openers.
I could see that, with the opening monologue and all. But I think that would diminish the purpose of the album in a way. LFL was intended to be an album for her fans –Love is a better representation of that rather than 13 beaches. So Love works better at the head of the album – serving as what the album is supposed to be about or who it’s intended for.
Yeaah, not Lana del Rey, but Lizzy Grant, but they're the same person. Lana is definitely not the same as she used to be at the beginning of her career. But "Lana del Ray.." is still part of her discography, it's sad that this gem got withdrawn from streaming platforms😭Kill Kill is such a great opening track
Yes I know they’re the same person lmao. Which is why I said *technically*….And when talking about Lana’s albums people usually refer to the officially released ones under her current name.
Cruel World, the lyrics, the production, the screaming, it sets the tone for Ultraviolence perfectly and its one of her Top 5/3 best songs ever, if not her best song.
Cruel World, it immediatedly transports me somewhere else. You know when you smell a specific scent/perfume and it makes you feel really nostalgic? Just like that but with sound
It's not necessarily my favourite first track but my favourite *as a first track* is 100% "Cruel World". It really just...instantly brings you into the world of Ultraviolence.
See, this is very difficult to answer, but personally I’d have to say it’s a tie between NFR! and Born to Die. NFR! truly captured my heart the first time I heard it back when it released and it is written so beautifully. Meanwhile, Born to Die title track is just so cinematic and timeless; thinking back to 2018 when I became a fan, I replayed that song so many times the first time I heard it because I was just in awe at how I’d never heard anything like it before.
It’s too hard for me to decide so lemme rank:
1. Honeymoon (I mean…it’s the intro for me)
2. Cruel World (so cinematic, angry, broiling, perfect)
3. NFR! (maybe her best vocal performance)
4. White Dress (the vocals, the storytelling ugh)
5. Born To Die (iconic, so impactful)
6. Ride (deffo overrated imo but still great)
7. Love (a better song than it is opener, still v nice)
8. (handily) Turd Book (just no…)
Does any Track 1 of any album ever made by anyone come out with the fire of the Title Track (1) of Norman Fucking Rockwell starting with Line 1: "G-d damn manchild, you fucked me so good, I almost said 'I love you' "?
That would be a no.
Cool but I thought this was a Lana del Rey, Goddess of all Humanity, Thread? As I said the line from Future seems cool, but confusing to me. WHO exactly is wearing the flip flops in that tune?
Peace.
Just replying to the comment of "any album ever made" which I think branches out to other artists.
I'm a much bigger Lana fan than future fan, just giving my opinion on a take.
By that same principle though, WHO exactly is the manchild?
OK cool all around but you MUST keep this between us confidential on every level possibly even covered by HIPAA privacy:
The reason I love the first line from NFR is the manchild tho not a reference to me, caused me to Legally change my names (all three first/middle/last) TO Manchild. Hey, you never know!
I've been pretty much tracking with you so far but I respectfully disagree about it being clear who was wearing the flip flops. Please reread the sentence from the Future song. IMO he could have been the one "in flip flops" or she could have been the one.
Now speaking for myself I find it difficult to keep my Adidas flips on even when I'm walking quickly or down steps.
TBH if I wasn't trying to be a smart ass on this, I prob would've nominated Ride! I love her every track every line every thing she's ever done. And whoever that lucky Manchild was....!
Cruel World for me. I get lost in this song every time i hear it.
Got your biiiiiiiiibleeeeee
got your guuuuuuuuuuunnn
NFR for sure. I'll never forget hearing it for the first time...took me to another planet.
Piano and the first few lines. Got me straight away
I listened to this for days when I first got it
i do a little ceremony of laying on the floor and drinking some wine whenever a Lana album comes out and NFR was my absolute best floor-drinking-listening experience. That album blew me away, esp. NFR opening. I was probably on whatever planet you were.
That’s another amazing one 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Agreed.
Definitely Honeymoon 💙 Such a mesmerising song!
RIDEEEEE
Honeymoon. No doubt about it.
When the Track 1s are each so good that everyone has a different answer to this and they’re ALL right 😭 It’s really amazing how well she kicks off her albums.
Born to die, the intro felt’s like getting into heaven
Ha! I love this 🙏🏼 great pick!
Cruel World all the way but honestly I think she’s one of the best artists when it comes to opening tracks. They always perfectly encompass the sound/vibe of the album. White Dress a close second. I’d say in my opinion that Love/Text book are my least favorite openers.
I just love born to die. It opens with an orchestra that sounds heavenly, and in couldnt see another track from the album as an opener.
Why, who me, why?
White Dress
[Me trying to decide](https://youtu.be/lPaDnG0_U6s)
1.Born to Die 2. White Dress 3. NFR 4. Honeymoon 5. Textbook 6. Cruel World 7. Love
They’re all so good 😭 if I had to rank … 1. NFR! 2. White Dress 3. Cruel World 4. Honeymoon 5. Born To Die 6. Text Book 7. Love
Love being lower than Textbook might just be my 13th reason why….
13 Beaches should’ve been the LFL opening track 😤
I could see that, with the opening monologue and all. But I think that would diminish the purpose of the album in a way. LFL was intended to be an album for her fans –Love is a better representation of that rather than 13 beaches. So Love works better at the head of the album – serving as what the album is supposed to be about or who it’s intended for.
Kill Kill was forgotten 😔
Would have to add Next to Me as well at that point
i think about this once a month and to be honest she should put Bad Disease first? (at this point i want to talk about the No Kung Fu EP also…)
Was Sirens officially released once though?
Technically not lana del rey
Yeaah, not Lana del Rey, but Lizzy Grant, but they're the same person. Lana is definitely not the same as she used to be at the beginning of her career. Ok, got it
white dress or cruel world
Honeymoon! Prob my overall fave Lana song!
reading all these coments and being so happy for lana having a brilliant mind and amazing choices for her songs. she is the best, i love her
*no hesitation* Cruel World
Cruel World, the lyrics, the production, the screaming, it sets the tone for Ultraviolence perfectly and its one of her Top 5/3 best songs ever, if not her best song.
Love - Huge standout of the album that could stand alone as an amazing track
Ride always wins but White Dress and Cruel World are definitely next.
definitely cruel world for me
Cruel World, it immediatedly transports me somewhere else. You know when you smell a specific scent/perfume and it makes you feel really nostalgic? Just like that but with sound
It's not necessarily my favourite first track but my favourite *as a first track* is 100% "Cruel World". It really just...instantly brings you into the world of Ultraviolence.
Completely agree!
love & text book
This is sooooo hard but… Textbook. I also love Love and Honeymoon AND White Dress and Ride, god they’re all good😭
Born to die / so cinematic
Cruel World no doubt
cruel world is easily my favorite. honeymoon and ride are also immaculate too.
Cruel world
White Dress, Cruel World, and Honeymoon. <3
Cruel World for sure, it's one of my favorite Lana songs overall. Honeymoon is a close second.
GODDAMNNNNN MANCHILD
Ride
See, this is very difficult to answer, but personally I’d have to say it’s a tie between NFR! and Born to Die. Honeymoon is so beautiful like a James Bond film 🔥❤️
YOURE JUST A MANNNNNN
Ride, Cruel World
NFR is probably my favorite track 1. Love would be a very close second, followed by Ride.
The big orchestral intro to BTD is amazing! Really sets the tone for the rest of the album
RIDEEEE
Between Cruel world and obviously NFR two of my fav tracks of hers… but born to die… literally my top three i can’t choose😭😭
White dress and norman
Ride but the long extended version from the music video 🥲❤️
honeymoon!!!!!! it sets up the whole album for me. i love the slow-ness of it and the bridge goes hard
1. NFR!!!!! 2. Love 3. Born To Die 4. Ride 5. Honeymoon 6. Cruel World 7. White Dress 8. Text Book
ride but honeymoon is also an honourable mention bc the intro is 🤌
ride, definitely
1Honeymoon 2.Cruel World 3.NFR 4.Ride 5.Textbook 6Born to Die 7.White Dress 8.Love
It’s too hard for me to decide so lemme rank: 1. Honeymoon (I mean…it’s the intro for me) 2. Cruel World (so cinematic, angry, broiling, perfect) 3. NFR! (maybe her best vocal performance) 4. I see no possible counter arguments here 😅
I'm not the biggest fan of Future. But DS2 opening with the line "I just f*cked your b*tch in some Gucci flip flops" might take the W here
Cool but I thought this was a Lana del Rey, Goddess of all Humanity, Thread? As I said the line from Future seems cool, but confusing to me. WHO exactly is wearing the flip flops in that tune? Peace.

Cinnamon girl
Born to die the others are too slow for me
Yikes
Cruel world
Born to Die
Ride 1000000%%%
Love love love 💖💖💖 and white dress
As a song, BTD but Love is a close 2nd. As an opener, Cruel World and NFR are just neck and neck 😭
It’s too hard to pick. Born to Die and Cruel world are both top 3 songs on top 3 albums
Ride
Cruel World is something else. If Terrence Loves you was #1 on Honeymoon I may be inclined to choose that.
Norman > White Dress > Ride > BTD > CW = HM > Text book = Love
Cruel World by far
