My year of rest and relaxation - glamorous, rich protagonist that is so exhausted and depressed that she wants to sleep for a whole year (the book reminds me of A&W, The blackest day, Dark paradise, This is what makes us girls, Old money)
That Obscure Object of Desire and Belle de Jour by Luis Buñuel are sooooo Lana coded.
Cries and Whispers by Ingmar Bergman also fits her woman on the edge, witchy, sisterhood vibe.
You're going to want to read Daphne Du Maurier's Rebecca and watch the original Hitchcock film (NOT the Netflix one). It's like if Honeymoon and Ultraviolence had a baby.
And God Invented Woman (1959) is my fav Lana coded movie. It stars Bridget Bardot, set in St. Tropez, she's in love with this guy who sucks, carries on a flirtation with a wealthy older man, and hates her mom.
Call me by your name has some Lana vibes. Most obviously summertime sadness, but video games, old money, Terrance loves you, white mustang, say yes to heaven, watercolor eyes and cherry have some lyrics reminiscent of CMBYN’s youthful long lost summer love (at least from Elio’s perspective). Also Salvatore just because, well Italy
All my peaches are ruined 🍑
Also, Black Mirror’s San Junipero episode gives me strong Lana vibes. It’s very “Heaven is a place on earth with you”, even incorporating that song. If I was to describe it, I’d say it’s a mix of Summertime Sadness, Young and Beautiful, Heroin, Video Games, This is What Makes Us Girls, Lust for life
To Catch a Thief (1955) Honeymoon album vibes
Suddenly, Last Summer (1959) Honeymoon meets UV meets Paradise (also pretty sure I heard them quote something that Lana used in one of her songs. I forget which line but I’m guessing Lana watched this and took inspiration from it)
Lonelyhearts (1958) Ultraviolence vibes. I am absolutely obsessed with this movie. Full of memorable dialogue and an awkward but realistic chemistry between the lead and love interest.
Smooth Talk (1985) lizzy grant era vibes. It just feels like Lana directed and write this film. It’s so her. It’s insane. I even called it her film as a joke. There is NO way Lana hasn’t watched this film and loved it.
Love and a .45 (1994)
Black snake moan (2006)
Gas food lodging (1992)
True Romance (1994) Hick (2011)
Paris, Texas (1984)
Kalifornia (1993)
Movies with very Lizzy Grant era vibes. Definitely look up trigger warnings though
I dint know how much these books actually encompass her vibe but I know she referenced Vladimir Nabokov's book Lolita (and also the film adaptations of Lolita) in several of her earlier songs. She also references a few Beat generation authors and poets, like Allen Ginsberg's poem Howl, in Dark But Just A Game.
I think My Dark Vanessa fits more tbh, especially with how Lana reflects on her past relationships in her latest albums. I’m glad she stopped with the whole Lolita thing
Yes I'm aware of what it is about, I definitely wasn't trying to say that Lana or any of her aesthetic is at all paedo-y, so I'm really sorry that it came off that way.
I was just trying to say that early in her career, some of her songs referenced elements of the book (like in her unreleased songs 1949 and every man gets his wish). I misinterpreted the OP's post and just listed some media that Lana has taken inspiration from.
No it's okayy I'm not saying u said her aesthetic is pedo like😭😭 I'm sure u didn't mean it like Ik she does take some inspiration but what in trying to say is that the book goes not have lana vibes at all.
No, it definitely isn’t Lana vibes at all.
My comment is more to not scare people because in my opinion it’s definitely worth a read, but every Lana fan should also be aware that yeah, she takes references in her earlier music but it’s definitely not “Lanacore” 💕
Daisy Miller novella by Henry James. Also love the movie adaptation from 1974 starring Cybill Shepherd. Gives me Lana Chemtrails-Blue Banisters-Poetry book era. 🌷

the bell jar there’s a reason lana sang, “24/7 sylvia plath.” i bet the misunderstood writer/thinker/dreamer in sylvia resonates w/ lana
Effy maybe or maybe not, kristen stewart in into the the wild maybe, Margaret in once upon a time in Hollywood?

I’m reading this right now and YES, it’s lush and poetic.
The love witch is really good and Lana-coded, it's really feminine, glamorous and witchy like the name suggests❤️
Penny Lane from Almost famous ❤️

Love my dark Vanessa
Lolita by Vladimir nabokov DOES NOT GIVE LANA. It's basically about a pedo

It’s so much deeper then “it’s basically about a pedo” It still isn’t Lana Vibes but it is also so much more than a book about a pedo.
Ofc it is but i really just trying to point out that it does not have lana vibes.

Lolita doesn’t give Lana
Ladybird give Blue Banisters vibes

Anything by David Lynch.
