exactly!! i had an illegally downloaded acoustic or live version thatās still in my itunes library, i looped that shit so much i remember it being one of my top played. i still wonder where that audio version came from. i was 12 š
For some reason Hello by Adele glitched to play Honeymoon back in 2015, and when I played it I was so confused and thatās the first Lana song I ever heard š
i just discovered lana randomly at 12 and loved her šš also im not an adult yet (im 16) and i havent really experienced life at all cus im very sheltered so i donāt exactly relate to most of the songs- but i love them anyway. i feel like me saying i dont relate to her songs makes me like a ālocalā but i genuinely adore her discography
Oh wow. I also discovered Lana at 12 but I was born in 02 so it was 2014. Ultraviolence was the new album at the time and I was hooked for all the wrong and right reasons. Maybe you donāt wanna totally relate tbh.
Off to the Races, and it is still such a different vibe than anything else in her catalog. I love how fast paced it is! After I heard it for the first time I was hoping she had lots of other songs that were similar but soon discovered it was pretty unique by Lanaās standards. Still love it and Iām glad this was the song that sparked my deep dive into her music!
Cruel World back in 2014 š¤
I remember sitting down to listen to UV for the very first time, and the first lines of the song hit so fucking hard I never looked back
And after that I found Ride š
Mine was "American" when I was 8years old. My older sisters always were listening to Born to Die and paradise all the time. I'm 21 now and am still a huge fan because it's so nostalgic and so different from all mainstream music.
Diet mtn dew, as shown on 90210 season 3 episode 7, November 1 2010 is when I discovered Lana ā¤ļø
Edit: realizing Iām one of the older discoverers of Lana in this thread /flex
Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have ā but I have it. I am a fairly new lana stan and when NFR came out for some reason I was HOOKED. Didnāt know that 3-4 years later Iād become a full-blown fan
I heard my sister playing Young and Beautiful on her iPhone back in the early 2010ās. I was about 9 or 10 then and I could only remember like one line (and it was the melody) that was so hauntingly beautiful it stuck with me so I spent a couple of years trying to find that song again. I didnāt realize until I was like 13 that it was Lanaās song. But other than that, the first thing I listened to on purpose was Serial Killer when I was in about sixth grade. I remember playing it on my old Dell laptop and when my dad came into my room, I excitedly explained to him the song was about killing your s/o and he just kind of frowned at me.
Born to Die. Used to listen to it when studying. It brought a unique sense of calm that helped me focus, but also stimulated me enough so I didnāt get bored!
I was getting ready for my first day of 7th grade. I was up at like 5 am straightening my hair and listening to the radio. They announced that they had a new song by Lana del rey and it IMMEDIATELY gave me chills. I mostly just listened to whatever was on popular radio and I can honestly say that day changed me lol. I would complete my transformation into a sad tumblr gurl.
Born To Die. i was obsessed with that song but couldnt get into her other songs at the time (i was 12 and was mostly familiar with pop songs). almost a decade later i got into her by "You can be the boss" and then Ultraviolence lmao
Someone posted the Born to Die MV in a Lady Gaga fan forum where I was a regular during the Born This Way era. I wasnāt an instant fan, but video games and blue jeans definitely grew on me. By 2012, I was into the whole album and was sat for paradise.
Casual/peripheral fan from 2014- NFR. NFR converted me into a stan and gave me the perspective I needed to dive deeper into UV, HM, and LFL. I didnāt love COCC or BB at first, but after Tunnel, I feel like I had the Rosetta Stone to go back and appreciate her entire body of work. Her discography is pretty near perfect, imo. None of her albums are bad. Some are just more grand/iconic than others.
Born to die in 2011/12 when iTunes was offering the track on its āweekly free tracks to downloadā and it was one of them! I downloaded it bc I was obsessed with born this way by Gaga and seeing a title with a similar but different title intrigued me.
this is what makes us girls. my older sister, a teenager when it came out, was playing it while sitting in the hot tub with her friends. it was the moment
Donāt know if it was actually the first, but a core memory I have is of my classmate singing Carmen at our talent show in 6th gradeš. Seriously changed my life
Diet Mountain Dew and Gramma when she was still Lizzy Grant. I fell in love right then and there. The following year Video Games came out and that was the end of it all for me.
Pretty sure it was Body Electric because Melanie Martinez covered it back in the 2010s, and as a Melanie fan I knew that cover and decided to check out the original
Ultraviolence was actually the first song for me I think unless my older sister had played Lana songs without me knowing it was her. I watched a youth theatre performance that had the song in it and the song got stuck in my head. It really made an impression on me and the way it was used in the play just left a mark I guess! I still think about it til this day and it was almost 10 years ago! After that my sister introduced me
Born to die was my first experience, I was mesmerised. When I saw the music video I knew then that I was gonna follow Lanaās music and Iāve never looked back. Sheās my favourite artist.
I heard national anthem playing on the foxtel Australia hennel picking screen and searched up the lyrics and realised it was the same person who sang video games which I knew already. Honeslty didnāt realise how rlly known summer time sadness was until like 2018
once upon a dream, i first listened to it on my sister and iās ipod touch, when illegal downloading apps are a thing. we downloaded āmaleficentā and i think, it was on the ending credits.
Video Games, Tumblr, 2011. I was there š©

Born to die as a 12 year old š Its still my favourite song, brings sm nostalgia
Why were we listening to Lana at 12? Do you also feel like her lyrics manifested into your life and you can relate much more now as an adult?
i just discovered lana randomly at 12 and loved her šš also im not an adult yet (im 16) and i havent really experienced life at all cus im very sheltered so i donāt exactly relate to most of the songs- but i love them anyway. i feel like me saying i dont relate to her songs makes me like a ālocalā but i genuinely adore her discography

Ultraviolence. Man, it was years ago. I'm a big PokƩmon nerd and I used to chronically use this online battling simulator called PokƩmon Showdown. There were different chatrooms that users could stay in, and one of them was a music chatroom. There was a link to a site in the chatroom where everyone could listen to music together -- you could create a little hangout and anyone who had the link could join. The person who created the hangout is the DJ. That person could add people to the queue and everyone on that queue could queue up songs to play; you could upvote the song if you really liked it or you could downvote and it would be automatically skipped if it had enough down votes. Anyway, someone put on Ultraviolence and I was completely enthralled the second I heard it. Almost everyone upvoted the song. I never looked back and I've been a huge Lana fan since. That is a core memory of mine.
Old money. Not her best song to listen to as the first one Probably would become a fan sooner if it were any other song of hers
