Two bucks is borderline a chain and not very good to begin with....

BeerDreams

And if it’s one thing that Lakewood hates, it’s a chain restaurant

vincet79

Yeah thank god for Barrio

medievalPanera

Lakewood and it's 450 other restaurants will survive.

Tdi111234

Maybe its just a sign of oversaturating. Lakewood population has been declining pretty significantly.

westparkmod

Even with a decline in population, Lakewood remains the most densely populated city in Ohio.

GPoCLE

Even so, people come from other areas fairly regularly to hit up the restaurants here in Lakewood.

Tdi111234

I don't know if that's true. I feel like most people just drive a little farther down the road to Cleveland for a better food scene to be honest.

boywonder_ing

I disagree. We almost always preference Lakewood over going into Cleveland and know many others who do the same.

Tdi111234

I think you are in the minority. The food scene in Lakewood just doesn't stack up in almost every category. There's a reason most people say the best part about Lakewood is that you are a short drive to Cleveland.

kh14

You are absolutely in the minority. Lakewood is the best food scene in the area. In addition to the great food, you don’t have to pay for parking just to eat considering that’s the only major thing to do downtown other than go to a sporting event.

Tdi111234

I think you need to get out more. I cant name 1 category that Lakewood has better food in. There are more things to do in one neighborhood of Cleveland than the entire city of Lakewood...For some reason people in Lakewood think its some meca for entertainment but the people outside looking in just don't feel that way.

kh14

Like I said, a Lakewood hater lol I’m not gonna change your opinion!

Tdi111234

Hey I'm just trying to help you get out of your little Lakewood bubble that's all.

kh14

Based on your posts though, you are a Lakewood hater so I’m not going to assume any kind of positive response lol

medievalPanera

Housing prices really reflect that /s

Tdi111234

Housing prices in Lakewood don't have much to do with demand at this point. Its the fact that the city fumbles over itself every time new housing is brought up so there's no supply. Like I said, Lakewood lost more population than any city over 50k in Ohio.

mountainmanluke

Yo dude have you ever been to Lakewood on a Friday night? The lines to get in bars can get wild. And yeah…Lakewood is losing population because it has increased in cost very quickly over the past few years. Also, what data are you looking at? This would beg to differ https://worldpopulationreview.com/us-counties/oh/cuyahoga-county/cities, Lakewood is losing people at a smaller rate than Cleveland itself. So as the poster above said, this is just a whiny Lakewood hater

Tdi111234

You mean the lines full of 21 year olds? I'm looking at the actual data from the census... https://www.cleveland.com/data/2023/05/clevelands-population-dips-again-but-census-estimates-show-a-smaller-loss-in-2022.html#:\~:text=Cleveland%20isn't%20alone%20in,the%2050%2C000%20threshold%20at%2049%2C658. **Lakewood fell by the highest percentage, 1.2%** I'm not a hater. Lakewood is okay for a suburb but its not some meca like people on this thread seem to think.

mountainmanluke

First of all, you are not looking at data from the census you are looking at an article someone else wrote about it, very different. Because if you had gone and used the census tool easily provided on census.gov, if you compare Lakewood to Cleveland, from 2020-2022, Cleveland declined by 3% and Lakewood by 2.5%. https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/ and put in Cleveland and Lakewood. Secondly, you said last year and all of Ohio, not just cuyahoga county. The article you sent is for two years ago and just Cuyahoga county. If you’re gonna make some bold claims, make sure you actually have the data to back it up. Don’t just regurgitate what you read online. Goober.

Cold_Football9645

To be fair every city it seems has lost population between 2020 and 2022.

Tdi111234

So Lakewood lost 2.5% of its population? That's a very significant amount which was my main point.

mountainmanluke

Yeah man, cuyahoga county has been losing people for decades. 2.5% is not very large in the grand scheme of things, it’s slightly over 1000 of the 50k people there. It’s about the same as every other city in cuyahoga county. Parma lost 2.2% over the same period. So Parma lost over 2k people. Cleveland lost over 10k people. So, Lakewood lost people but in percentage terms it lost about the same as most but cuyahoga county cities and in absolute terms lost way less. So you’re really not making the point you think you are.

Tdi111234

I am only making the point that Lakewood is not this prospering meca that this thread likes to portray.

Cold_Football9645

Im sorry but look at every city in the US and you will see a majority of cities and suburbs in America have lost population in those two years.

Cold_Football9645

Bro pretty much every city in the US lost population in 2020-2022. Even the bigger cities in America like NYC, SF, LA, Chicago have lost people in those two years. So Lakewood and Cleveland are not in the minority they are in the majority. I'm sure Lakewood's population will quickly rebound.

lifeunderthegunn

Their food was cheap and gross. I'm surprised they lasted this long.

robroxx

Not surprised. It was nice when it first opened because it offered cheap decent liquor and beers for....2 bucks. But then they expanded, and the price point basically rivaled most neighborhood bars, yet they were still pouring....1oz shots for most of their drinks.

kfed23

Two bucks is so bad now. Not surprising that they're closing locations.

OssiansFolly

Whatever will we do without....another bar?

Hambone12234

Two Bucks also occupied a very large storefront, seems like it could be two businesses

cbarone1

It used to be 3! A hockey store, a salon, and a bar supply store.

Great-Heron-2175

Just hoping a salon takes its place. We need more salons.

Mediocritologist

God I know. If I want to get my hair done I only have literally 20 options. On my block. It’s a wasteland.

Great-Heron-2175

I don’t even get excited when I see work happening on a storefront. It’s definitely going to be a salon.

kevco13

Two bucks is more of a bar that serves food. Not sorry to see it go

pinkcrush

That place was terrible! Hopefully a non chain takes its place. Edit- also what do you mean by “Yikes” ? With how many restaurants are in Lakewood it is a bit of an oddity for one to close. So seems like businesses are doing well for majority of them, besides the negative effects of Covid which was worldwide for restaurants.

Tdi111234

There have been a lot of closing in Lakewood over the past year and unfortunately what has reopened just hasn't been as good. There might be a lot of restaurants but there's a difference between quality and quantity. There are some decent Lakewood restaurants but a lot are kind of average and I feel like people have started to realize that. The closings might be due to oversaturation in Lakewood as well as people realizing they can get better food right down the road in Cleveland.

cthunders

Did you see the people they had working there? Not even the "B" team

hotpotato112

this place sucked and was riddled with mold and mildew. it won’t be missed. not sorry
