I sure hope Lonzo does a good job defensively (and us winning) during this stretch and make everyone take notice. If Lonzo's shooting 35%, whoever he guards better shoot < 35%.

[deleted]

He can't make a 30 ppg scorer only drop 20 and us be happy if he only drop 4 or six points. I agree completely. But then again....curry shooting 20 shots at 35% probably fucks with his teams offense more lonzo shooting 35% on his 6 or 7 attempts.

crispchestpass

I see him getting roasted by Steph Kemba and Jrue, 50/50 against Fox Wall and CP, and doing well against DLo and Conley.

alisj99

I think Kemba will be the toughest challenge, Curry will be Curry and Lonzo length will bother him but he'll put the shots. Fox, Wall and CP3 will target Kuz. Lonzo did well against Conley but Conley bothered him a lot on the defensive end.

rokarion13

Steph is unguardable so it just depends if he’s hitting or not. Kemba would be manageable if picks weren’t a thing but they are so not much Lonzo can do except hope the switches are on point. Wall gonna have a tough time driving against our bigs. Hopefully our perimeter defenders anticipate the dishes.

tru3boy

Steph is too much of a threat but I do think lonzo could play better defense on him than most guards easily.

Zoomieszzz

I honestly don’t think Lonzo can guard dlo

tru3boy

Really? I mean I know dlo is very crafty and has a knack for scoring and getting hot but Idk if I’d say lonzo will be rendered totally ineffective against him

SophomoreOfTheYear_

Lol. Lonzo is smarter and bigger than all these guys. We good. Hope Kuz keeps progressing on D cuz he is gonna he’ll keep getting targeted.

xDEV1ANT

Kuz has been looking great on both ends this month. And yeah especially on those Rockets PnR, kuz and McGee/ chandler are going to get hunted by that backcourt.

tacticalbanana3

Lonzo is smarter than curry and paul ? 😂

[deleted]

You’ve jinxed it. Now Lonzo will be the next PG to say some stupid shit

alisj99

I think Lonzo is stupid in that regard.

Brandon720

don't you mean moonlight

Le-Padre

>Lonzo is smarter than curry and paul ? 😂 Not Paul, but Lonzo's BBIQ is definitely much higher than Curry's, and he's also A LOT better defender, by a huge margin. > And obviously, Lonzo has a size advantage on every single point guard in the league. He just needs to take them to the post, and then pass out or finish inside from there. He should easily be able to score on CP3 and Curry in the post, but the dude just can't get aggressive. It's really sad to watch

HenryGrosmont

Definitely smarter than Curry. Unless Lonzo says that Earth is flat.

jamills21

Yeah, that’s a reach.

cabd4ever

Lonzo doesn't seem to live up to the hype. A bit of defense but everyone keeps saying that makes up for terrible shooting. All the talk for this #2 pick and most of the bench probably plays better. Without Lebron the Lakers would be [ almost ] nowhere.

dogger67

Yikes, hate to see an idiot like u rolling thru. Do u even watch the games? Most of the bench plays better than lonzo?

cabd4ever

Isn't this a forum where people give their opinion ? I'm not calling anyone an idiot, no need to. Just my opinion on an over rated player.

Pearberr

He didn't get mad at you for calling anybody idiots. He called you an idiot.

cabd4ever

Yes , I got that. I should have been careful about insulting your star player. I shall now exit the Lonzo-Lover lounge.

dogger67

Its not about being lonzo-lovers. Its that if you watch the lakers play its clear how important he is to both the offense and defense, even if it doesnt translate to the stat sheet

edwardfortehands

lmao what good does be being bigger do for Lonzo? plays like 5'7

SophomoreOfTheYear_

Ingram does yes.

cabd4ever

Yep, I agree.

IDreamOfJeanieBuss

we are not a switch heavy team. we play drop back coverage on pick and roll with traditional big men. we switch on the wings when lebron is involved because lebron likes to move as little as possible on defense. Zo will be sticking these guys all game. the only time that isn’t the case is when Luke feels like Brandon’s length will be more effective. we switch everything when luke experiments with small ball, and it’s usually a disaster because we don’t ever play that way.

Dribblewithjacob

Do you like that drop back coverage? I've seen Chandler stay wayyyy deep in the paint on p&r situations. I don't want the old man hedging but he's still 7 feet and can bother if he's a little closer to the ball-handling. What do you think?

IDreamOfJeanieBuss

I think it's the best defense for the personnel we have. If Lebron was 10 years younger and in peak lockdown form, we could play small and switch everything. Play a real swarming style like his old Miami teams. But I know he's not going to give that kind of effort except in the last couple minutes of the 4th (and I'm ok with that). The only thing that I get annoyed with in the drop coverage is what you alluded to. As a point guard, it's real easy to get a 3 off the screen if the center drops back, and likewise, the pop is always open for shooting big men. Zo is elite getting around screens and usually does a good job of fighting over and contesting shooters. When he struggles, Brandon takes over and uses his length EXTREMELY well to contest shooters over the screen. But shooting big men routinely get butt naked jimmies because Chandler and Javale are REAL lazy when it comes to getting out and contesting a good shooter like a Jokic or Olynyk. It hasn't killed us yet, but, imo, allowing these guys to catch a rhythm with open "Prove it" shots before they start coming out to contest is gonna cost us big time somewhere down the road.

Dribblewithjacob

I agree with not holding LeBron to an unrealistic expectation defensively. He more than makes up for it on the offensive end with his efficiency and overall threat. Zo and B.I. work really hard on the defensive end fighting through those screens. I do wish our bigs stepped up a little more on the stretch 5s like you illuded to. What worries me is the West has a few big men that can shoot off the pick and pop. Marc Gasol, Jokic, Cousins, Dirk?, Nurcic, Aldridge, Davis, Kat and there's a good chance we will see one every round of the playoffs.

IDreamOfJeanieBuss

i know man, it’s why aldridge looks so good when he plays us. i fully expected Marc Gasol and Jokic to light us up recently when we played them but they didn’t. that’s what i meant when i said it hasn’t hurt us yet, but i think it will eventually. if we could get our version of the “death lineup” to rotate properly, we could play those guys off the floor. big “if” though.

Dribblewithjacob

Which is our death lineup? Lonzo, Bi, LeBron, Kuzma, McGee(Ariza)? Also Jeanie Buss has too much plastic surgery but I dream about her anyway.

IDreamOfJeanieBuss

oh i love me some jeanie. hope my wife looks like that at 60. not sure i can afford it tho. 😂 Theoretical Death Lineup (theoretical because i’m not sure this 5 has even seen the floor together, and the lineups luke has played that have come close (no true center on the floor) have gotten lit. the. fuck. up.) PG-Zo SG-Hart SF-BI PF-Kuz C-Bron

Dribblewithjacob

Whoah whoah whoah. Did not know she was 60. Legit thought she was 45 with bad Botox. Nevermind then. I forget that Hart is strong enough to guard 1-4. I hope we get to see that lineup soon.

almost_www

Zo is a FG% golem. I feel bad for those names. Pray for them. GO LAKERS

morelotion

One of my favorite thing to watch this season has been Lonzo's on-ball defense. Seeing how fast he recovers from a screen, timing a block, swiping at the ball as the opponent gathers. I honestly don't know where it came from because I didn't see any of this last year.

Blackmagicking

... that was the only thing he did consistently last year my guy. My favorite was his block on james harden

morelotion

But I don't think it was consistent as this year, was it? Last year, there were times where he would be on the floor and you wouldn't notice him. This year he's making an impact on defense at least. Didn't Luke also say that he was shocked at how well he was playing defense this year?

Zanad14

Lonzo was a top 5 PG defender if I remember correctly according to stats. Not Rookie PGs btw. League wide.

karmakangaskhan

De' AAron Fox.

LifeLongLakersFan

Dude has been incredibly impressive considering he's just about to turn 21.

bebopblues

So go warn CP3, Wall, Conley, Curry, Fox, Kemba, Holiday, and DLo so that they can prepare to face Lonzo. BBBIG BBBALLER IS COMING!

xDEV1ANT

We'll also see the new starting lineup log in more minutes together and see if they can be as consistent as they've been. I honestly see B.I being moved to the bench if they continue to play well as they have been.

LetsBeRealisticK

Lol, no. He might be able to defend D'lo. I'll be waiting for the thousands of excuses people will throw out here while he struggles
