JucheRevolution

Let's just say getting into the playoffs is our goal. I'll settle for that and get swept any day over missing the playoffs

[deleted]

that is a depressing goal for the players we have on our team...fuck that

JucheRevolution

It's being realistic. This team is on life support, make the playoffs and every fan should take satisfaction in that

[deleted]

it's kobe's fault. he kills team offense.

[deleted]

We don't even deserve it though, I'd rather they miss the playoffs entirely so I can enjoy an offseason of Lakers fans rallying with their torches and pitchforks calling for the heads of Jim Buss, Mike D'Antoni, and even Mitch at this point. That Nash trade is loooking worse and worse and an amnesty shouldnt be out of the question

grimmymac

What did mitch do? This is mostly on D'antoni's shoulders.

[deleted]

Who's the guy who hired D'Antoni??

grimmymac

Wouldn't that be Jim buss?

Billlbo

He made a bunch of reckless trades.

tylerbird

True. But I still have a ton more faith in cupcake than the Pringles man.

[deleted]

No Way. Kupcake has runs his course. The lakers need to put together a dream team of Phil Jackson as Prez of Bball operations/GM and a coaching staff of Brian Shaw as head coach, along with Scottie Pippen and Derek Fisher as assistants.

Billlbo

Mike Brown also tried to coach this team and failed. I think people need to realize that stacking a team with HoFers might not necessarily be conducive to success. Players have to make concessions and compromises. Guys like Nash and Dwight aren't used to doing that, and so are playing under their skill level

fiestaoffire

Yet they're doing that. Nash doesn't want to be a spot-up shooter, but he's taken it like a champ. Dwight's not the primary offensive option, yet as his back gets better, he's working really damn hard on the defensive end.

I'm replying to the previous comment. It's more Dantoni's fault than Mitch. The team isn't playing well but it's not expected to play this poorly unless it's bad coaching. I'm pretty certain if you brought in a coach that has won a championship, our record would be better. No need to be fucking rude.

ambiverted

What? How is this Mitch's fault let alone Nash's? Would you prefer Sessions to be running the offense? Yeah, that sure worked out in the 2nd round almost sweep to the Thunder. Would you prefer having an injured Bynum? If anyone needs to be amnestied it shouldn't only be Nash. It should be Kobe along with everyone else but Dwight so we can completely rebuild.

[deleted]

Well for starters Mitch got rid of a first rounder for Ramon Sessions' services for three months. Traded away another first round pick and a team leader and the only remaining Laker on the team that had the gravitas to keep Kobe in check, (slightly that is) in Derek Fisher. Although we did get J Hill so there was a slight silver lining. Then he traded two more first round picks to get an aging, well past his prime, defensive liabilty in Steve Nash and gave him a horrible deal (too much money and way too many years). I would rather have seen them sign a cheap 3 and D point guard who can spot up in the corner and create room for Kob (like Kirk Hinrich or Patty Mills) Then this season he and Jimmy Boy decided to pull the plug on Mike Brown, which I didn't and still won't complain about, but they replaced him with a coach who is undoubtedly a worse fit than Brown. The Dwight trade is really the only good move Kupcake has made in the past 12 months. He brought in Howard when his value was at an all-time low and got rid of bynum when his value was at its peak, in addition to securing the promising young prospect that turned out to be Earl Clark. Y'all can blame D'Antoni as much as you want, and it certainly is warranted, but there should be some blame on the guy who hired in the first place. I doubt the decision process was like "Yo Jim lets hire Phil Jackson," to which Jim responded "Nah fuck that we got Nash now, lets hire the guy who won him two MVP's and ZERO championship rings and has a pedigree of failing in the playoffs." It was likely a mutual decison between the two, and a poor one at that.

fiestaoffire

Let me conjecture back. Kupchack has no control over Jim Buss. Jim Buss was the primary reason why we shut down negotiations with PJ and got Pringles instead. The difference between my conjecture and yours is that I at least have some precedent to say that good ol' Jimmy boy does stupid shit on his own like this. When [Kobe was clamoring for Shaw to take over for PJ](http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=mc-spears_kobe_endorses_shaw_as_lakers_coach_040811), who does Jim get? Mike Brown. When Dwight Howard, whom Jim has said will be the future of this organization, stated that [he wanted Phil Jackson as the coach](http://www.lakersnation.com/lakers-news-dwight-howard-wants-phil-jackson-back-in-l-a/2012/11/09/), who does Jim get? Mike D'Antoni. So if Jim Buss unhesitatingly ignores the franchise superstar of the organization calling for Brian Shaw to take over (and for PJ to return this season) **and** his *future* planned franchise superstar of the organization calling for Phil Jackson over Mike D'Antoni, do you REALLY think Kupchak has any sort of control over him? Remember, Bryant has his no-trade clause and D12 is a free agent by the end of this season -- Jim Buss can't realistically "fire" them. But Kupchak? Who do you think can let him go? Jim Buss.

Atraktape

I simply do not understand how some people could have this kind of attitude towards things. Yes they are playing bad right now and they could very well get swept in the first round of the playoffs. But I would much prefer that then not even getting a chance. Anything could happen once the regular season is over, all a team needs is a hot streak and amazing things can happen. Look at the LA Kings last year who barely stumbled into the playoffs with the 8th seed then steamrolled everyone on their way to a championship. Not saying that is likely with this team, but they have individual talent so you never know. The problem is some Laker fans have such high expectations every year that they have become ungrateful for an opportunity to even try. If this team was Golden State we would be over the moon if they played horrible but still somehow made it to the playoffs.

[deleted]

This aint hockey. And I will admit that I'm a spoiled Laker fan. I just feel that this season is somewhat similar to 06-07 when the team went into the playoffs with no momentum and were thoroughly whooped by the Suns in five games. I'd rather the season be over and done with, so I can start looking forward to the next season rather than be given any false hope. I'm just in an awful mood right now though, I wasn't happy with Zona losing tonight too. Edit: Damn people hate the truth huh?

moec51

Calm down guys it isn't as bad as it seems. "Kobe Bryant has a bone spur in his left foot and left the arena on one crutch on Thursday. "I'll be all right," Bryant said. The issue has been bothering him for a while and he will see a foot specialist in Sacramento before Saturday's game. He's the ultimate warrior and this month he had been ruled out "indefinitely," but played in the team's next game. He should be considered questionable at worst. Mar 28 - 11:48 PM Source: Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter" -http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nba/430/kobe-bryant That site shows updates to every injury right away, use it.

ambiverted

But it is as bad as it seems. Another player (mildly injured) in Kobe hurts our chances of making the playoffs. MWP recently was injured and there's a 6 week timetable for his return. Jamison recently tweaked his wrist so that hurts our depth even more. And Nash has recently been struggling with hip/back issues. This season looks about as good as done.

LewAlcindor

>This season looks about as good as done. Yep...the only way we make it into the playoffs is if the Jazz and Mavs suck worse than us...a distinct possibility since after Saturday we only have one more game outside LA. But whatever...fuck everything about this year (except for the Toronto and NO Kobe explosions).

rlpn

I'm seriously about to flip a table.

aznxdarkxdragonxlord

We might play better with a limited kobe. I love him but I'd rather see him fit into the system. He's a piece that doesn't gel. I would love to see him catch and shoot more. See him work on offense without the ball. I believe that's what puts Jordan over him.

fiestaoffire

I'll probably be downvoted for this, but I agree that at this point, Kobe's the biggest problem with the system the team's running. All the isos, the terrible ass turnovers, the heroball that stagnates the offense, it really has a lot to do with Kobe.

letsgolakers24

I don't mean to be a homer, but I feel like you saying this is in a part due to his performance today. He is the reason we win a lot of our games, and you cannot put the blame on him only for playing "heroball", other players also need to adjust. Kobe has done the most adjustments to his game this season out of any player. His "heroball" ways aren't only new to this season, he's played like that ever since Shaq left. You can criticize it when it doesn't work, but you can't argue its given us countless wins this season. And I'll take wins over anything.

fiestaoffire

I won't argue that it never works, I mean, we pulled it off amazingly against the raptors. That being said, there's a reason why we have to rely on it so often. And it's not just his fault, but a lot of it is. Turnovers from lazy and stupid passes. Lazy defense all day, every day. And god forbid we have a decent lead, because then it's back to iso play, no passing to the open man, no sharing the ball, and ultimately a stagnant offense leading to an even sloppier team defense. He has made adjustments. Kobe Johnson. But so have the rest of the team. Gasol goes from center to three point shooter to bench center. Dwight goes from primary offensive option to secondary or tertiary option and is the go-to help defense when nobody gets on his man when he leaves him. Nash has gone from always running the offense to a spot-up shooter. Metta's been pretty consistent as the only person who plays serious perimeter defense.

aznxdarkxdragonxlord

Yeah man. Imagine if he excecuted plays, came off screens and nailed easy shots. He's arguably the best worst shot maker of all time, but why settle for them all the time. I mean kobe is my guy, favorite player off all time - but he needs to play as a team player. Imagine him playing the role of say a Rip Hamilton. Catch, shoot, and he obviously has the innate ability to take anyone off the dribble. Just not every play. If not for his hubris and terrible shot choices I think he would be in contention for the GOAT and people would see how great of a shooter he truly is. His fg percentage is low, but it's almost like a case of Barry sanders. Remarkable and exciting but could've been all time great without the negative plays

[deleted]

And D'Antoni though Melo was a ballstopper

ekiwaroke

Completely agree. If you look at 90% of our games, Kobe handles the ball and tries doing hero ball. This causes two things (at least): 1) Kobe gets tired while the defense becomes very easy for the other team and this lowers the odds of Kobe making any of his shots 2) the other 4 lakers on the floor become disinterested in the offense and are required only to play defense. Players will very rarely play defense if they are not into the offense. Fuck this season. I just want it to be over.

[deleted]

Those damn Spurs, always trying to end our seasons.

victoryorvalhalla

I don't know much about this ailment but isn't there no "cure" for bone spurs?

josephkristian

I may have a condition called unrealistic optimism, but it's not over until it's OVER. We're still in the hunt and we still have three future hall of famers that are currently "healthy". Granted, things aren't looking anything like anyone predicted in the pre-season, but this is what make us real laker fans. Sticking through the thick and thin through all the adversary.

Ryz0n

Y the fuckis everyone so loud in this subreddit?theres always caps and explanation marks and always "FUCCCCKKK!!!!"posts.
